Chapter 2

Author: Zoe bear
Alpha David didn’t give me a chance to change my mind.

The very next morning, a convoy of wolves from the Rogue Den arrived at the gates of my villa. Their cargo? Twenty-five chests of gold. Yes, you heard that right—one chest for every year of my life.

When Alpha David opened those chests in my living room, the dazzling gold nearly blinded me. Honestly, I didn’t know if I should be impressed or worried about getting robbed.

My parents weren’t thrilled about Alpha David.

“Are you sure about this, Diana?” my mom asked for the tenth time.

“Alpha David’s reputation isn’t exactly... spotless,” my dad added.

But my mind was made up.

“Love or power,” I replied with a shrug, “at least I’ll have one of them.”

Now, was Alpha David’s reputation as the Rogue Alpha of the entire Rogue Den a little intimidating? Sure. But he was powerful. His pack is tucked away in the remote Mississippi River region, but it was vast and fiercely strong. That kind of strength came with its own allure.

And besides, if Sandra Barlow hadn’t turned him down, I wouldn’t even have this opportunity.

Just as I was contemplating how to store all this gold , the door swung open. In walked Alpha Kevin with Sandra trailing behind him.

Upon seeing the scene before them, both seemed to jump to conclusions.

Alpha Kevin raised his chin with an expression that practically screamed, “I knew it.”

Sandra, on the other hand, had a glint of greed in her eyes.

“Diana,” she cooed, her voice dripping with fake sweetness, “is this all your dowry?”

Sandra Barlow is the unwanted product of a drunken night between Delta Kingsley and a stripper. The Barlow family barely tolerated her existence, sending her off on her wedding day with nothing more than a box of pastries.

I frowned. “No, it’s not.”

Kevin scoffed. “Come on, Diana, drop the act. Yesterday, you were all about not getting married, and now you’re stockpiling your dowry?”

“Yes, Diana,” Sandra chimed in, her voice sickly sweet. “We’re all family now that you’re marrying Kevin.”

Before I could tell her to shove her idea of “family,” she turned to Kevin.

“Didn’t you prepare a gift for Diana? Go on, show her!” she said, tugging on his arm.

As she moved, a glint of green around her neck caught my eye.

My chest tightened.

That necklace—a stunning emerald piece—was an heirloom from Kevin’s family, meant for the future Luna. I’d dropped more hints about it than I cared to admit, but he’d always dodged the subject, refusing to part with it.

Yet there it was, now sitting smugly on Sandra’s neck.

Noticing my stare, Sandra adjusted her collar, ensuring the necklace sparkled under the light.

And then, as if that weren’t enough, Kevin pulled out a small box from his pocket, opened it, and tossed its contents at me.

A ring. A cheap, ugly ring made of stainless steel.

“Here,” he said, his tone laced with mockery. “It’s for you.”

I picked up the ring, its chipped rose-gold paint flaking off in my hand, and couldn’t help but laugh.

He was so generous with Sandra, yet so miserly with me.

“Wow, Alpha Kevin,” I said, handing it back to him. “This masterpiece should definitely go to your Luna.”

Alpha Kevin’s face darkened instantly.

Furious, he snatched the ring and hurled it out the window. “If you don’t want it, then it’s trash!”

Sandra pouted dramatically, stomping her foot. “Diana, this ring was chosen specifically for you by Kevin and me. It’s a token of our goodwill.”

“Oh, and Diana,” she continued with a saccharine smile, “I designed a wedding dress for you myself. I hope you’ll like it.”

She gestured to a maid, who handed her a pink gown.

I was so angry, I laughed.

In Midnight Ridge Pack tradition, pink wedding dresses were reserved for second marriages or mistresses.

Watching Sandra’s smug expression, I finally understood their purpose for coming today.

They wanted to humiliate me.

Without caring whether I agreed or not.

Sandra handed me the dress with a smug grin, clearly enjoying herself.

In front of Alpha Kevin, I reiterated, “I’ve already told you, the wedding is off.”

“If there’s nothing else, you two may leave.”

But it was clear they didn’t take my words seriously.

Sandra grabbed my arm, trying to drag me toward the fitting room.

“Don’t be ridiculous, Diana. At least try it on!”

Annoyed, I shoved her hand away.

“Get out. Don’t touch me.”

I hadn’t even used much force, yet Sandra dramatically staggered backward, collapsing to the ground with the dress in hand. Tears quickly welled in her eyes.

“Diana, I... I was just trying to help,” she whimpered, clutching the dress like I’d ripped her heart out.

Alpha Kevin, seeing this, shoved me hard.

“Diana Gilbert, This dress was Sandra’s gift to you,She spent days designing it and made sure it was finished in time for the wedding. And this is how you repay her?”

“An ungrateful, jealous shrew like you deserves to be alone forever.”

With that, he scooped Sandra into his arms and stormed out.

Sandra glanced over his shoulder, smirking triumphantly.

That smirk reminded me of the first time I met her.

Alpha David’s POVI once thought the Moon Goddess had forgotten me.Or worse—maybe she looked at me, saw what I was, and decided I wasn’t worth a damn blessing. But it didn’t matter.I had never been the type to sit around and wait for fate to hand me something on a silver platter. Everything I wanted, I fought for.And Diana?I was ready to fight the whole damn world for her. With just a small scheme, I watched as that fool Alpha Kevin practically handed her over to me.His loss. My victory.I married Diana Gilbert. The woman I had loved for so long, the one I had watched and waited for.And if the Moon Goddess still refused to acknowledge me? So be it. Diana was mine regardless.—A year into our marriage, everything changed. It was an ordinary morning—I was sitting on the couch, chewing absentmindedly on a strip of bacon while Diana stared at a pregnancy test. She blinked. Then blinked again.I swallowed the bacon. “Well?”She turned to me, her golden eyes dazed. “I think I’m pregna

I didn’t return to disturb Alpha David. Instead, I went back to the rogue lair’s villa, my heart still pounding from everything I had overheard at the Seductress Club. My wolf was unusually quiet, as if processing it all alongside me. As soon as I stepped into the study, I froze. The walls—every inch of them—were covered in portraits of me. Sketches. Oil paintings. Watercolors. Some detailed, some rushed, all of them unmistakably me. Different ages, different expressions—my laughter, my scowls, even the rare moments when I thought no one was watching. And the dates… Some of these were from years ago. My breath hitched. My fingers traced one of the paintings—a delicate piece where I was caught mid-smile, as if David had frozen time itself just to keep the moment alive. I swallowed hard. Each stroke, each detail, each shade of color—this was love. Love so deep, so raw, that it had been poured out onto canvas over the years without me ever realizing it. A lump formed i

I followed Alpha Kevin into the VIP section of the Seductress Club without resistance, though my wolf stirred uneasily at the heavy scent of alcohol, lust, and something far more feral hanging in the air. This place reeked of trouble, and it wasn’t just from the humans who frequented it—there were wolves here too, some barely suppressing their instincts, their eyes glowing in the dim light. Then, amidst the chaotic hum of conversation and the bass-heavy music pounding from the main floor, I heard his voice.Alpha David.A chill ran down my spine. Then came his words, clear —"Let me just say this first—if you invite me to a place like this again, I’m not coming."A teasing voice responded, "Oh? Since when did the rogue Alpha turn into a henpecked husband?"Laughter rippled through the room, but my focus was on David. My nails dug into my palms, waiting for his response."You wouldn’t understand," another voice chimed in. "This guy’s been smitten with Diana Gilbert since he was a kid.

"Diana, please, I beg you, give Kevin back to me!"Sandra’s wail shattered the lively hum of conversation, her voice raw with desperation. Every head in the gathering turned toward us, curious eyes locking on the spectacle unfolding.I blinked down at her. She was on her knees, tears streaming down her face, her sobs punctuated by hiccups."I can’t live without him," she cried, clutching at the hem of my dress .I frowned, already feeling a headache coming on. "Stand up first."Sandra shook her head violently, her tear-filled eyes pleading. "No, I won’t get up unless you agree!"The gathered wolves murmured amongst themselves, intrigued by the unfolding drama. I could hear snippets of their whispers—Did you hear? Alpha Kevin wants a divorce because of her! Poor Sandra. Imagine groveling like this.Taking a deep breath, I tried to keep my voice level. "Sandra, whatever happened between me and Alpha Kevin is long over. What happens in your marriage has nothing to do with me.""But he has

Alpha Kevin’s cheekbone was bruised, his lip was split, and scratch marks marred his face—he looked utterly disheveled. When he saw Alpha David holding my hand, his eyes instantly reddened. I frowned slightly. "Alpha Kevin, do you need something?" His voice trembled, barely holding it together. “Do you still hate me?” I shook my head. "It’s in the past." His eyes lit up, mistakenly thinking I no longer blamed him. “Diana,” he said, stepping closer. “I’ve already told Sandra I want a divorce. Can’t you give me another chance? I swear to Moon Godness, I’ll never mess up again.” Alpha David’s grip on my hand tightened, and I could feel the storm brewing beside me. Before I could stop him, he grabbed Kevin by the collar.“You’ve got some nerve,” David growled, his wolf rumbling beneath the surface. His fist was cocked back, ready to strike, but I stepped between them.“David,” I warned, placing a hand on his chest, “stand down. We’re not savages.” Well, technically, he was, but

I didn’t look back even once. The moment he registered his marriage with Sandra, it was over between us.The wedding convoy drove for over an hour before arriving at the rogue den’s mansion. Alpha David took my hand as we prepared to enter.Just then, the sharp screech of tires skidding against asphalt rang out behind us, slicing through the cool evening air. "Diana!" A familiar voice roared, and my stomach dropped. Alpha Kevin had somehow tracked us down. Alpha David patted me reassuringly. "Go inside. I’ll handle him."I hesitated for a second before decisively stepping into Alpha David’s mansion.Fifteen minutes later, David strode into the grand hall. His shirt was slightly rumpled, the top button undone, but otherwise, he looked completely unscathed. Of course, this was David’s territory. Kevin would have been a fool to think he could pull anything here. "Handled," he said simply, offering a quick smile before we turned back to the waiting guests. The ceremony proceeded

I stared at the sleek black timer in my hands, my heart pounding as the numbers ticked down.10, 9, 8...What was this? A bomb? Had Alpha David planted explosives in the Midnight Ridge Pack?My wolf bristled, ready to lunge into action. I clenched my jaw, eyes darting around for an escape. Then—Boom! Boom! The sky exploded. Not in fire and destruction, but in the most breathtaking display of fireworks I had ever seen. The night lit up in dazzling hues of crimson, sapphire, and gold, the bursts reflecting in my wide eyes. The air smelled of burnt gunpowder and the crisp autumn wind, carrying the distant gasps of onlookers.A deep chuckle rumbled from the man beside me.“Gamma Diana, these fireworks were specially arranged by Alpha David just for you,” the messenger said, his tone laced with amusement. “Do you like them?”I swallowed, still dazed.“…I do.”And I hated that I did.David Wright—the infamous Rogue Alpha feared across the Mississippi—was a man of chaos, but even his madness

Back then, she was just the illegitimate daughter of the Barlow family, a stray among nobles, tolerated but never truly accepted. At a grand banquet, her sister, Miss Fiona, treated her like a mere servant. When she accidentally spilled wine on Fiona’s silk gown, the entire hall fell silent. A hush of anticipation rippled through the crowd as Fiona, ever the perfect lady in public, cracked her fan shut with an audible snap and delivered a sharp slap across Sandra’s cheek."Know your place," Fiona hissed. "Kneel."Sandra hesitated, her hands trembling. No one moved to help her. No one ever did. That was when Alpha Kevin stepped forward. His golden eyes flashed with barely restrained fury as he caught Fiona’s wrist mid-swing. "Enough," he said, his voice dangerously low. "She’s still your sister."The crowd gasped. Fiona’s face burned with anger, but she swallowed it down, retreating with forced grace. From then on, Kevin became Sandra’s silent protector.
