"P-proposal? Who did you say yes to?" Nico's eyes turned red.

"Me, of course."

A familiar voice rang out from the entrance.

Dante strolled in wearing a white suit, his men behind him.

Every member of the Moretti family in the hall was instantly on guard.

My father glared at him. "Dante Vitale, you've got a lot of nerve showing up here like this!"

Dante smiled and slipped an arm around my shoulders. Then, as if by magic, he produced a red rose and offered it to me.

"Don Moretti, I'm your future son-in-law now. Is this how you treat me?"

My father looked at me and let out a heavy sigh.

But Nico let go of Leah and charged over to us.

"Get your hands off her!"

Dante didn't move. He simply lowered his head and tucked a loose strand of my hair back into place.

His guards grabbed Nico before he could get close.

Nico's eyes were red.

"Dante, forget it! The Moretti family will never form a marriage alliance with your family!"

Dante didn't even glance at him.

"Oh? And a stray dog gets a say in this?"

He turned to my father, his tone respectful and polite.

"Don Moretti, I'll bring my adviser for a formal meeting tomorrow morning. We can discuss whatever terms you have in mind."

My father gave a cold grunt and didn't answer.

When Nico saw that my father hadn't refused, he turned to me in a panic.

"Camila! How could you say yes to him? Have you forgotten how much business and territory they've taken from us over the years?"

I looked down at him.

"I haven't forgotten. Once the wedding's over, my father will settle those accounts."

"No! I'm your fiancé!"

His voice rose to a shout, and he panted like a rabid dog.

I raised my left hand. There was still a pale line on my ring finger.

"You wanted to call off our engagement. I agreed and gave you back your ring. Nico, don't you still owe Ms. Cruz for saving your life?"

He stared at my hand and swallowed hard.

"Camila, I didn't have a choice. There wasn't a single day in those three years when I didn't think about you. I know I wronged you. Hate me, curse me, even kill me if you want. I'll accept whatever punishment you give me. But you can't throw your life away just to spite me, and you can't choose him!"

Dante chuckled.

"Mr. Ricci, don't flatter yourself.

"Ms. Moretti already dumped you, didn't she?"

He smiled at Nico, but there was something chilling about his tone.

His hand drifted toward his waistband. Before he could do anything more, Leah, white as a sheet, rushed forward and planted herself in front of Nico.

"Don Vitale, Nico just acted on impulse. You don't have to go this far!"

"People have to answer for what they say," I said almost carelessly.

Her lips moved. She turned to me with tears in her eyes.

"Ms. Moretti, do you know what he went through for this family just so he could come back and marry you? Nico is loyal, and he has a good heart. I won't let you humiliate him like this."

I glanced at her.

"Loyal? You think I'm humiliating him?

"The moment Nico returned, he announced in front of the entire family that he was breaking off our engagement to marry you. What should I do, praise him and wish you two a long and happy life together?"

Leah froze, tears streaming down her face.

Dante gave the two of them one last look and held out his hand to me.

"Shall we?"

I put my hand in his and turned to my father.

"Dad, I'd like to leave now, if that's all right."

My father watched me from the raised seat at the front of the hall. At last, he gave a slow nod.

"Take your own men with you."

Dante shielded me as he walked me down the steps, then opened the car door for me.

Behind me, Nico screamed my name until his voice cracked. Unmoved, I got into the car. The door shut, and the world went quiet again.

As we drove away from the estate, I finally exhaled. Only then did I realize I'd nearly snapped the stem of the rose in my hand.

Dante smiled, wrapped his handkerchief around my hand, and kissed it through the cloth. When he looked up, something dark churned in his eyes.

"Ms. Moretti, why won't you take better care of yourself? Your fiancé is going to worry."

With his breath inches from my skin, I said, "You'll have to propose properly. Show me how serious you are."

He paused, then pulled me closer and murmured against my ear.

"I promise. I'll give you more than a proposal. I'll give you a wedding you'll never forget."

I laced my fingers through Dante's, our wedding rings pressed together."But why didn't you ever tell me?"Dante laughed softly and said nothing. He only answered after I kept pushing."I was afraid you'd think I only proposed to repay you..."Camila, I proposed because I love you. And I wanted you to be with me because you love me too."He lowered his eyes. "Do you know how scared I was every time I saw Nico chasing after you? I was scared you'd only said yes to me to get back at him. I was scared you'd forgive him again."My heart ached a little.Dante always seemed so calm and in control. He almost never opened up like this.He was the Don of the Vitale family, but he was also that boy outside the church. After all those years, he'd still been watching over me, quietly waiting for his chance to get close.I moved closer and nestled into his arms.Dante was warmer than the cashmere blanket, and the warmth made the tips of my ears turn pink."Dante, I'm so glad I called you that day.

On our wedding day, white roses lined the aisle all the way to the altar. Dante stood there smiling and held out his hand to me.He slid the wedding band onto my finger and lifted my veil.Soft light from the stained glass fell across his face, and I rose on my toes and kissed him first.Applause broke out. Smiling, he tightened his arm around my waist and deepened the kiss, slow and tender.Married life was peaceful and happy. Every morning before he left, Dante would linger by the front door forever, trying to coax a kiss out of me.His men waiting outside could only look at the ground and pretend they hadn't seen a thing.I couldn't resist teasing him. "Mr. Vitale, what happened to the fearsome Don everyone knows?"He leaned close to my ear and murmured, "Camila, if you keep smiling like that, I won't want to leave today."Whenever I returned to the estate for dinner with my father, Dante joined us if his schedule allowed. They got along fine as long as they didn't talk business. "Don't listen to her!"Blood was still seeping from Nico's mouth. "Camila, you don't owe me anything. Don't give in to her for my sake!"Leah pressed the gun harder against his head. "Who said you could speak?"I took two steps closer and spoke calmly. "Don't you want to negotiate with my father? Put the gun down, and I'll call him.""You don't get to make deals right now!" she snapped. "Kneel!"Before I could move, Dante's voice came through the earpiece I'd put in before I left."Camila, we're coming in!"The next second, the side door of the warehouse burst open, and Dante charged in with his men!Leah instinctively turned toward the noise. I seized the opportunity to lunge at her and knock her gun hand aside. The gun went off, and a package on a nearby shelf burst open. She screamed and tried to aim the gun at me, but Dante was already there. He wrested it from her hand and slammed her to the floor. My father's men quickly subdued the others, securing the warehouse."Let me go! I'm

Nico and Leah had vanished together. My father's men searched everywhere but found no trace of them. Dante grew increasingly busy, too.But he always made time to take me shopping, take me to dinner, and plan little surprises for me.Our days together were warm and easy, like any normal couple's.But as long as Nico and Leah remained missing, I couldn't shake the feeling that danger was lurking in the dark.So the wedding kept getting pushed back.Dante kept telling me everything would be fine, but I knew he was desperate to get married as soon as possible. His men quietly complained to me about how impatient their Don had become.I teased him. "Mr. Vitale, what happened to that famous composure of yours?"He kissed my fingertips. "I can't wait to make you my wife, Mrs. Vitale."But time did nothing to ease my anxiety. I couldn't forget the danger we'd faced on our wedding day. Then one afternoon, I got a call from a number I didn't know."Ms. Moretti, please, you have to save Nico!"I

I frowned at Nico."Who told you that?""Leah! She overheard the Vitale family's plan. They're planning to use the wedding to take out your entire family in one fell swoop!"Nico struggled to inch forward."Camila, I came to save you! Leah was even willing to put our relationship aside for now so I could come find you—"My father cut him off, his voice low. "She's the one who got you out of the holding cell?"Nico froze, then gave a reluctant nod.My father's expression darkened further. With a wave of his hand, he ordered the guards to take Nico away. The wedding had to be put on hold, and the whole fiasco left everyone in a foul mood.Dante took my hand, his expression solemn. "Camila, I swear to God, the Vitale family has no plan against you. Believe me."I ran my thumb over the back of his hand and smiled at him."I know. If Nico were right, you'd have made your move by now."Dante's tense expression gradually softened.Something flickered in his eyes, as though he wanted to say mo

Nico raised the detonator. Even with the guards' guns trained on him, nobody dared move.My father's expression darkened. "Put the gun down! Do you have any idea who's sitting in this room?""All I want is Camila!"Nico stared at me with red eyes, his chest heaving."If she comes with me, I won't hurt anyone!"Dante stepped in front of me, his voice terrifyingly cold."You showed up at her wedding strapped with explosives, and you expect me to believe you care about her safety?"Nico clenched his jaw, the gun shaking in his hand.I looked at Nico over Dante's shoulder."You want to talk? Fine. But let the guests leave first.""Come here first!" Nico's face was frantic.I sighed, stepped out from behind Dante, and faced Nico's gun head-on.Nico faltered and slowly lowered the gun."Nico, we all know how much you've done for this family over the years. I don't want you to throw your future away."I walked slowly toward him.Dante and my father called out to me anxiously from behind, but
