Chapter 5

作者: Lumi Here
Simon caught Yara's arm as she sank.

Then Cindy's terrified scream rang out nearby.

"Simon! Help me! A shark's biting me!"

The smell of blood from her cut had drawn a shark!

Simon's grip on Yara's arm suddenly loosened.

Without hesitation, he turned and swam toward Cindy with all his strength.

Through her fading vision, Yara saw him protect Cindy as people on a life raft pulled them aboard.

Then a shark clamped onto Yara's leg. It bit again and again, tearing flesh from bone.

Agony overwhelmed her.

Yara woke in pain.

She could make out a familiar figure standing beside her bed, his back to her.

Memories rushed over her, along with pain she couldn't put into words.

Years ago, thugs who had been eyeing her tried to rob her in the slums.

Simon had just come home from school. He rushed in without a thought for his own safety and shielded her even as they beat him bloody.

Back then, he would have risked his life for her.

What about now?

He had someone he truly loved.

Why would he care whether his "just family" lived or died?

"You're awake?" Simon turned.

There was no relief or guilt on his face, only disappointment and blame.

"Yara, when did you become so cruel? Why did you push Cindy into the water? She's pregnant!"

Yara's brow tightened.

She endured the pain in her leg and the ache in her chest, but she couldn't hold back any longer.

"She grabbed me and jumped! Why would I push her? Simon, which of us is your wife? Why do you believe her?"

Simon paused.

He saw how earnestly she looked at him and began to wonder.

Cindy did have a temper, and she acted rashly before.

Just then, the hospital room door flew open.

Cindy stood there, pale, with an IV line in her arm and tears in her eyes.

She looked gravely injured.

"Simon, don't blame Yara..."

Her voice was frail and thick with tears. "It's my fault. I only wanted to tell her I was pregnant and share the good news. I didn't expect her to react so badly and push me straight into the water!"

"Maybe she was jealous because she lost three children. Maybe that's why she did this to me..."

She let her words trail off, but the accusation was unmistakable.

Simon frowned and turned back to Yara, irritation in his eyes.

"Yara! Why take out your jealousy and pain on someone innocent?"

Innocent? Jealous?

Yara trembled with anger as she looked at him. Then she let out a harsh laugh.

"Jealous of her? Why would I be jealous of her? Is she carrying my husband's baby?"

Simon's expression changed at once. His eyes widened.

She knew? Since when? How much had she found out?

But Yara's gaze soon grew calm, as though she only blurted out the question in anger.

Simon remained uneasy.

He didn't know why the thought of Yara learning the truth frightened him so much.

At that moment, Cindy pulled a marriage certificate from her pocket.

She looked at Yara, her voice innocent while her eyes shone with spite and triumph.

"Yara, I'm a married woman. Saying things like that could damage Simon's reputation. It could affect my life and work too!"

Simon immediately caught on and said sternly, "That's right! Yara, watch what you say. Stop spreading rumors and causing trouble!"

Yara stared at the marriage certificate.

She waited for Simon to marry her again after the kidnapping.

Instead, he had already married Cindy.

The pain in her body and her heart became unbearable.

Her vision went black, and she passed out again.

"Simon," Yara said his name clearly. "You won't let me die."The familiar way she addressed him made Simon freeze. Hope flared in his eyes."You... you remember?" Yara looked at him, her voice calm and free of anger.Simon clung to that answer as his last hope. His words tumbled out."Then you remember loving me, don't you? You got revenge for me. You made everyone who hurt me pay.""Yes! That's how much I love you!" Simon cried. "You know that if anyone hurt you, I would make their whole family pay!""Cindy is dead, and so are the others who hurt you. No one can come between us now!"Yara's smile vanished. Her g
