On the eve of my wedding to Dillon Garrity, the Don of the Garrity family, my father flew in one of Hollywood's top bridal stylists to create my bridal look. I sat alone in the bridal suite. Three hours passed, and the stylist still hadn't arrived. When I finally called to ask where she was, she sounded surprised. "Didn't the Don tell me to do Ms. Beth's hair and makeup first? He said it was your idea." Beth Garcia was Dillon's childhood friend. Before I could hang up, Dillon took the phone. "Beth and I grew up together," he said matter-of-factly. "She wants to look her best for an occasion this important. I'm sure you can understand." The priest had already come by once to confirm the ceremony timeline. Only two hours remained before the wedding. "But I'm the bride," I said. "My hair and makeup haven't even started." Dillon's voice went cold. "Do you have to cause a scene right now? You'll be my Donna either way. The ceremony is just a formality." Then he hung up. My heart jolted. I stared at my phone screen in disbelief. After ten years together, it suddenly occurred to me that maybe this wedding didn't need to happen at all.

Chapter 1

My parents entered the bridal suite arm in arm, both dressed for the ceremony and ready to escort me down the aisle.

When my mother saw that my hair and makeup still had not been done, she frowned in surprise. "What's wrong? Does the dress not fit? Did something go wrong with the arrangements?"

My father's face darkened as he turned to the assistant. "What happened?"

My assistant, clearly furious on my behalf, quickly explained everything. "Something's definitely going on between those two. Beth's the one being dressed like the bride."

My parents' faces grew even darker.

"What do we do now?" the assistant asked. "The wedding is about to start."

"Yeah, even if the team works fast, hair and makeup will take at least two hours."

Time was running out.

My mother held my hand and comforted me. "Don't worry. I'll figure something out. I'll have her come over right away.

"Let's get your hair and makeup started first."

Stone-faced, my father told the assistant, "Come with me. We need to go over the final details with the priest."

I said nothing. As I stared at the floor, I remembered our wedding photo shoot a few days earlier, when Beth had suddenly demanded to know who my makeup artist was and insisted on seeing her portfolio.

Mia was known for working with Hollywood's biggest stars. She had created bridal looks for international celebrities.

If the Greene family had not carried real weight in the underworld, we never could have booked her.

My father had even sent his private jet to bring her in from London.

Beth's eyes had lit up when she heard that. I thought she was happy for me. I never imagined she'd had this in mind the whole time.

My mother called Mia.

This time, Dillon's mother, Zara Garrity, answered. Her voice was gentle, but every word carried a sting. "You know we're running out of time, yet you keep rushing us. Beth's styling is much more complicated. Monica's is simple."

My mother's patience snapped. "We hired that makeup artist! She came here for my daughter."

"Yes, yes, I know. But I've always loved Beth like a daughter. We're about to be one family, so you should think of her as family too. Mia is already here. Let's stay out of the kids' disagreement.

"Stop rushing us. The moment she's done, I'll send her right over."

With that, the line went dead.

My mother had more to say, but the words died in her throat.

The assistant returned after going over the ceremony schedule and happened to overhear the conversation. Her face darkened with anger. "The nerve of them," she muttered. "That stylist was hired for Ms. Greene, and they just took her over for themselves."

The videographer came in behind her. When he saw that I was still in my robe, he wiped the sweat from his forehead. "Ms. Greene, should I start filming?

"You're still in your robe, but the ceremony is about to begin."

A thin layer of sweat formed on my back. I dug my nails into my palms and calmly told the videographer, "Go ahead and start filming."

The videographer looked baffled, but he raised his camera and started filming.

Then I dialed Dillon.
