"You're not supposed to be here."

Ava stood at the garden entrance. Her thin nightgown caught the pink light of sunrise, bare feet dirty from walking across the grounds. Her dark hair hung in tangles around a face that was far too serious for a five-year-old.

Time stopped. My baby. My own baby was standing right in front of me. She had Damon's curls but all I could see was my eyes. My chin. The same stubborn tilt to her head that Mom always said I had.

I wanted to grab her. Hold her. Tell her everything. Soon, I promised myself. Once I finished with Susan, once I had secured my position, I would tell Ava who I really was. Then we'd go home to Wood Pack together, where she belonged. With me. Instead, I dug my nails into my palms grounding myself in the pain.

"I'm Dr. Graham," I said, forcing clinical detachment into my voice. "I'm here to help the Luna. These herbs are part of her treatment."

Ava approached carefully, but her attention shifted immediately to the plants I'd been h

Hilda"Keep her away from Ava," Susan ordered, clutching her bedsheets. "That's all that matters now. She can't be allowed near my niece."I nodded, processing this new information. I'd already suspected something unusual about Dr. Graham's interest in Ava, but this explained everything. That night, I couldn't sleep. I sat by the window, watching the moon rise over the trees, the "condemned" tattoo on my hand stark in the pale light. All this time, I'd been keeping a little girl away from her mother. Letting her believe she'd been abandoned. And for what? So Susan could play happy family with someone else's kid?I sat alone in my room, carefully weighing my options. Susan's condition was improving under Dr. Graham's treatments, but this presented a problem—the Luna's paranoia was growing alongside her health, making her increasingly volatile and unpredictable.Susan's protection had been my lifeline for three years, but that protection depended entirely on Susan's position and power.

Hilda"This is Ava," Susan said, gesturing to the small girl sitting on the floor. "My niece. You'll be taking care of her from now on."The child looked up from her blocks, dark eyes curious but wary. She couldn't have been more than two years old. Tiny fingers clutched a red block, frozen mid-motion as she assessed me.I stood in Susan's private quarters, still absorbing this unexpected development. Two years had passed since our hallway encounter. Two years of following orders, staying invisible, surviving."I don't know anything about children," I said.Susan's lips curved into that not-quite-smile I'd come to recognize. "Don't worry. I'm not asking if you have experience with children. I'm telling you this is your new responsibility."Ava returned to stacking blocks, apparently deciding I wasn't interesting enough to hold her attention. A small tower grew under her determined hands."What happened to her previous caretaker?" I asked."Reassigned." Susan's tone made it clear that

HildaThe needle buzzed against my skin. Each prick sent tiny bursts of pain through my hand, but I'd felt worse. So much worse."Kind of intense for someone your age," the tattoo artist said, wiping away excess ink.I kept my left arm extended on the padded rest. "That's where I want it.""Most people hide the meaningful ones.""I need to see it every time I reach for something," I replied, watching as the letters took shape across my knuckles. "A reminder of what I am."The artist snorted, shaking his head. "Dramatic much? Let me guess, early twenties? Everyone your age thinks they're carrying the weight of the world."I didn't respond. Let him think what he wanted. The cramped tattoo parlor smelled of antiseptic and cigarettes. The buzzing needle provided the only consistent sound, occasionally interrupted by muffled voices from the street outside. Perfect anonymity in a place where nobody asked real questions. The artist—a middle-aged man with more ink than bare skin—studied my fa

Heyyy it's literally 3am here and I just woke up from a nightmare. Can't get back to sleep so I figured I'd work on this chapter instead. What time is it where you're reading this? Sometimes I wonder if anyone else is up at these weird hours reading while the rest of the world is asleep. Anyway, back to trying to calm my brain down enough to sleep... or maybe I'll just keep writing till sunrise. We'll see! 😴

EvelynMy lips cracked as I tried to swallow again. Nothing. Not even spit left. Forty hours in this chair had drained everything from me—water, strength, hope.I shifted my weight and winced as the ropes cut deeper into my already raw wrists. The small cabin felt like a tomb, airless and timeless. Only thin slices of light through boarded windows hinted at the outside world. Evening, probably. Maybe. Who could tell anymore? My face itched where the prosthetics were starting to peel away. The adhesive needed regular maintenance—something impossible while tied to a chair. I could feel the edge lifting near my jaw, a small but growing betrayal. Soon, the whole disguise would fail.A sharp pain shot through my leg as a muscle spasmed. Sitting motionless for this long was its own torture."Damn it, Susan," I whispered, my voice a dry rasp in the empty room. "What do you plan to achieve with this?"The questions circled endlessly. Susan must have missed her dose by now. Even with the treat
