Evelyn

My lips cracked as I tried to swallow again. Nothing. Not even spit left. Forty hours in this chair had drained everything from me—water, strength, hope.

I shifted my weight and winced as the ropes cut deeper into my already raw wrists. The small cabin felt like a tomb, airless and timeless. Only thin slices of light through boarded windows hinted at the outside world. Evening, probably. Maybe. Who could tell anymore?

My face itched where the prosthetics were starting to peel away. The adhesive needed regular maintenance—something impossible while tied to a chair. I could feel the edge lifting near my jaw, a small but growing betrayal. Soon, the whole disguise would fail.

A sharp pain shot through my leg as a muscle spasmed. Sitting motionless for this long was its own torture.

"Damn it, Susan," I whispered, my voice a dry rasp in the empty room. "What do you plan to achieve with this?"

The questions circled endlessly. Susan must have missed her dose by now. Even with the treat

  • He Slept With My Sister, When I Was Giving Birth   Author's Note

Heyyy it's literally 3am here and I just woke up from a nightmare. Can't get back to sleep so I figured I'd work on this chapter instead. What time is it where you're reading this? Sometimes I wonder if anyone else is up at these weird hours reading while the rest of the world is asleep. Anyway, back to trying to calm my brain down enough to sleep... or maybe I'll just keep writing till sunrise. We'll see! 😴

  • He Slept With My Sister, When I Was Giving Birth   79 Are You Blind?

DamonI stood at my office window, watching Robin's vehicle disappear beyond the pack borders. The dust cloud hung in the air long after the engine sounds faded. Forty-eight hours. That's all the time I had before Robin came back with an army, demanding a healer who'd vanished without a trace.Less than eight hours left now.But war wasn't my biggest worry right now. Susan's treatment was. With Dr. Graham gone and Margaret still recovering, I needed medical help fast. Susan would have another episode soon - I could feel it. And I wasn't ready to watch her writhe in pain again, her body tearing itself apart while I stood there helpless.I made my way to Catherine's room, hoping her earlier offer to take over Susan's care wasn't just talk.I knocked and waited before entering. Catherine stood at her windowsill with a small collection of potted plants, carefully trimming dead leaves with tiny scissors. Her movements were precise, focused. She looked completely normal. Maybe she really wa

  • He Slept With My Sister, When I Was Giving Birth   78 Tied Down

EvelynI woke up with my head pounding and the taste of blood in my mouth. Everything hurt - my face, my ribs, the back of my skull where something had connected hard enough to knock me unconscious. My mouth felt dry and metallic, my tongue probing carefully at loose teeth. My hands were tied behind my back, secured to what felt like a wooden chair. The rope was tight, professionally knotted, cutting into my wrists when I tried to move. I tested the bonds carefully, feeling for any give or weakness. Nothing. Whoever had done this knew what they were doing.I opened my eyes slowly, blinking against the dim light filtering through dirty windows. The room looked like an abandoned hunting cabin - rough wooden walls, a stone fireplace that hadn't been used in years, dust covering everything. The air smelled of old wood and neglect. The last thing I remembered clearly was the guard in the holding cell. The helmet covering their face, the way they'd moved toward me without responding to my q

  • He Slept With My Sister, When I Was Giving Birth   77 Death Sentence

SusanI stared at Hilda in complete shock, the words "She's dead" echoing in my mind over and over. This wasn't what I'd planned. This wasn't what I'd wanted. The room felt too small suddenly, the air too thin."What?" My voice came out as a whisper, barely audible even to myself."Dr. Graham. She's dead," Hilda repeated, her voice steady but her eyes showing distress. She stood perfectly still, hands clasped in front of her like she was delivering a routine report."How?" My panic began to build, starting as a flutter in my chest and spreading outward through my body. "What happened? I didn't tell you to—""You signaled for me to handle the situation," Hilda said carefully, choosing each word with extreme caution. "During the capture, things got... rough. I handled her too roughly."My mind raced through the implications, each thought hitting me hard. No Dr. Graham meant no treatment. No treatment meant death. My mother couldn't help me - not with the way she'd been acting lately, th
