Anton's POV

The moment I finished speaking, my childhood sweetheart, Vivian Wilder, frowned and said, "Anton, your mom is right. A wedding is a big occasion. You won't be able to handle it."

Julian Cadwell tried to persuade me, "Anton, leave the wedding to me. Don't push yourself."

I opened my mouth, wanting to tell them that I had practiced my wedding vows over a hundred times. There was no way anything could go wrong. But my throat seemed to seize up, and I couldn't force out a single sound.

Mom snorted coldly, "A mute will always be a mute. Why bother talking to him at all?"

Just like that, the video call ended with a beep.

Vivian posted the wedding livestream link on her social media. When I clicked on it, the wedding had already begun.

Julian walked into the venue, smiling brightly, wearing the exact same suit as me and carrying my favorite flowers.

The livestream chat was lively.

"So Vivian really did choose Julian!"

"Vivian and Julian are made for each other. I won't accept any objections!"

I typed in the chat. "The groom is Anton Collins."

Someone immediately replied, "So what? Haven't things always been this way? Julian has to do everything for him."

"LOL. The mute can't survive without his best friend."

I stared at the screen, my fingers trembling. Back in school, whenever I couldn't speak, Julian would always step in and speak for me. He would confront the classmates who mocked me, answer the questions on my behalf, and even take my place in speech competitions.

Over time, everyone simply assumed I was mute, even though I was perfectly capable of speaking. Vivian and Julian would make every decision for me without ever waiting for me to speak.

This time was no different. No one bothered to ask for my opinion. They simply replaced me as the groom. The screens in the hall were still displaying the wedding photos of Vivian and me. But no one spared them a glance. Everyone's eyes were on Julian.

He held Vivian's hand as they exchanged rings and vows under the officiant's direction. When the officiant asked the groom if he was willing to marry the bride, he answered confidently, "I do."

Those were the words I was supposed to say.

The guests burst into thunderous applause. Vivian's best friends cheered in unison, "Kiss him! Kiss him!"

Julian lowered his head, blushing, and tugged on Vivian's sleeve, asking what they should do.

Vivna stepped in front of him and said, "That's enough, guys. Anton is the actual groom. Julian is just standing in for him."

"Drop the act, Vivian! Everyone knows you like Julian."

"That's right. You've already replaced your groom, so why are you still denying it?"

"You two must have been planning to use this as an excuse to get married all along!"

Everyone around her burst into laughter. No one thought of me. After the wedding, Julian posted on social media. In the photo, he and Vivian were leaning against each other. My life-size standee stood beside them, alone.

The caption read, "This was my first time being the groom. It feels pretty good! Wishing my best friend and childhood friend a lifetime of happiness together!"

Vivian was the first to like the post.

Someone commented, "Julian is such a classy guy. If it were me, I'd have just stolen the bride! You two are perfect for each other!"

I stared at the screen in shock. I had no idea how long I had been standing there.

But then, Mom sent another video. In the video, Julian had changed into another formal suit and was accompanying Vivian as she went from table to table, toasting the guests in my place. He wore a polished smile and carried himself with ease. He drank smoothly and showed no sign of getting drunk, no matter how much he drank.

There was a hint of pride in Mom's voice. "Having a son as outstanding as Julian is a blessing to our family."

I had always known that everyone liked him, including Mom.

Julian and I were part of a blended family. Even though I was Mom's biological son, she had always favored my stepbrother, Julian.

At the end of the video, the wine glass in Vivian's hand suddenly slipped and fell to the floor. She braced herself against the table with both hands, unable to stop herself from dry heaving.

Anton's POVVivian was stunned. She was about to say something, but I cut her off. "Vivian, ever since we were children, you've all been the ones making decisions for me. I never even had the chance to speak for myself. You never once stopped to think about whether I wanted any of it. You never asked if I was okay with it. I only have aphasia. I'm not mute!"I practically shouted that last sentence. These were words I had kept to myself for far too long. When I finally said them out loud, every one of them still carried the pain they had left behind. Her face instantly turned pale. "Anton, I'm sorry. I—""Vivian, go home. This isn't the place for you." I turned around and walked away. "When you get back, pass a message on to them for me. From now on, I don't want any of you coming to find me."Just like that, Vivian left.A few days later, Mom called me. On the other end of the line, she was sobbing uncontrollably. "Anton, do you really not want me as your mother anymore? You d

Anton's POVThe day Vivian appeared at the entrance of our base, I was handing out bread to a group of children. She had become much thinner, looking completely worn out from the journey here, and her face was pale."Anton." The moment she spoke, tears came streaming down her face. "Anton, I watched your interview. You did a really good job with the translation."I handed out the last piece of bread in my hands, then turned to look at her. "Go home, Vivian. No matter what you say, I'm not going back with you.""Anton, listen to me—" She stepped forward and tried to take my hand, but I stepped back and avoided her.Her hand froze in midair. "Anton, I love you. I just couldn't let go of Julian. We are already divorced, and the baby is gone now. Come home. We've all been so worried about you. Julian cries every day, blaming himself for what happened to you. And your mom checks the news from Dalton first thing every day, and she doesn't relax until she sees that you're safe—"I cut h

All the students in their class gathered around, everyone waiting for her answer. No one knew how much she had struggled inside. In the end, she finally said quietly, "I like you too."Her words had been a lie from the very beginning. Julian was her first love. Since their first year of high school, they had secretly been together. Third-Person POVVivian called Anton 17 times, but every time, the mechanical voice said his phone was switched off. When she found out he had left, she nearly passed out again.Julian immediately patted her back to comfort her. "Mom, stay calm. Anton is just throwing a tantrum. He'll be back soon."However, she slapped his hand away and yelled, "Fine! If he's left, so be it! I don't have a son like him!"Vivian sent a message to Anton. "Anton, your mom has woken up. Come back and apologize."An hour later, he still hadn't replied.Julian also tried sending him a message. "Anton, where did you go? We're all worried about you

Anton's POVThe next morning, I went to the station to complete my work. When I returned home, Julian and Vivian were there. Their marriage certificate was sitting on the table. He wrapped his arms around her from behind, resting his chin in the crook of her neck. "Vivian, am I being too selfish? If it weren't for the baby, we would never have been able to get married… Anton is supposed to be your husband…"She smiled and kissed him on the cheek. "We'll just treat him a little better from now on."I walked in with my hands clenched, my expression twisted with anger. When they saw me, they quickly pulled apart.Julian stood up and quickly explained, "Anton, it's not what you think. I—"I ignored him and simply went back to my room to get my luggage.Vivian pushed the door open. When she saw my luggage, she immediately grabbed my hand. "Anton, where are you going? I'll leave right away. Please, don't do this—"I avoided her and dragged my suitcase toward the door. But she chased

Anton's POVMy throat constricted painfully. I forced myself to stay on my feet, my eyes welling up with tears. Finally, I walked out, grabbed the cup from the table, and smashed it hard against the floor. Shards scattered everywhere.Vivian stood up quickly, her voice frantic. "Anton…"Seeing me like this, Julian tried to stop me. "Anton, I'm sorry. Vivian's pregnancy was an accident. I never meant to fight you for her…"I was so furious that I could barely breathe, unable to utter a single word. All I could do was raise my hand and shove him away. I signed. "Why? Why did you make a fool of me? Why did everyone lie to me?""Enough! What are you gesturing about?" Mom shoved me aside. She yelled, "If you can't speak, just keep your mouth shut! Don't upset Vivian."Caught off guard, I stumbled and nearly fell.Crying, Vivian took out her phone. "Anton, I let you down. I'll make an appointment to get rid of the baby—"As soon as she said that, everyone rushed over to stop her. Jul
