Chapter 4

A handsome man walked toward me. It was Gideon.

When he saw Selene lying on the ground, he rushed forward to help her up, his eyes full of concern. "Selene, did Keira bully you again? Ever since you were brought home, Keira has been opposing you at every turn. She knows you have no parents, yet she deliberately gets close to hers just to hurt you.

"She'll be arrogant and domineering even after becoming the Luna. How can I feel at ease letting someone like her manage the pack with me?"

He gently wiped away Selene's tears. "Don't worry. Now that I'm here, I won't let anyone bully you anymore."

Selene buried her head in Gideon's chest, sobbing softly. However, at an angle Gideon could not see, she shot me a look full of triumph.

Everyone thought she was pitiful and that I had to yield to her. By relying on her status as an orphan, she had stolen so much from me—even my brother and my mate.

I laughed coldly. "Of course. The squeaky wheel gets the grease. Fine. Since you claim I bully you, let me show you what real bullying looks like."

I grabbed Selene and pulled her over. Before she had a chance to react, I shoved her into the fountain beside us.

It was late fall now. The fountain water was ice-cold and bone-chilling. Selene was soaked through, shivering in the water.

Since they all accused me of being cruel, I might as well be cruel to the end.

Both Gideon and Kyle stood frozen. It took them a long moment to react.

"Keira, what are you doing? This is way too much!"

I lifted my chin. "I'm simply living up to the crimes you've pinned on me."

I never wanted it to be this way. Even until the very end, I had hoped Selene and I could be like real sisters.

That year, when Father returned from his travels, he brought back a dirty little girl. Back then, Selene was like a frightened fawn as she hid behind Father.

Father introduced her to me. "Keira, she'll be your sister from now on."

At first, I felt sympathy and affection for this girl who had no parents. No matter how much I loved something, if she wanted it, I would give it to her without hesitation.

However, at some point, she began showing her true colors. She wanted everything I had and would take it from me. If I refused to give it to her, she would complain to Kyle.

Ever since she arrived, my beloved brother had changed too. One word from her about liking something, and he would take away the dolls my parents had given me and snatch away my favorite dresses.

Those things represented my parents' love for me, but he did not care at all and simply took them away.

The more I thought about it, the angrier I became. I raised my hand and slapped Kyle hard across the face. "That slap is for the one you gave me just now. I'm returning it to you.

"Ever since Selene came to our house, you've never treated me like your real sister. No matter what it is, you always side with Selene. Fine then. I'll make it easy for you. I don't need you as a brother anymore."

A bright red handprint instantly appeared on Kyle's face. He stared at me in disbelief.

I turned to face Gideon. "And you, Gideon. You made me the laughingstock of the entire pack just to stand up for Selene. Since you don't want this bonding ceremony, then we'll never have one."

I announced to all the guests who had come for the ceremony, "I hereby announce that the bonding ceremony between Gideon and me is canceled!"

As soon as the words left my mouth, the entire hall fell silent. Gideon stood frozen in place, his face deathly pale.
