The morning sun filtered through the high glass windows of Julien’s corner executive office, painting the polished mahogany floor in stark grid lines of shadow and light.

Julien stood behind his desk, holding a heavy fountain pen over the thick investment dossier delivered by Blackwood Global’s elite legal courier. His breathing was fast, his eyes bright with the manic thrill of a man about to step into the big leagues.

"Two hundred and fifty million," Julien muttered under his breath, tracing the embossed silver seal on the front page. "This doubles our enterprise value overnight."

Across the desk, Chloe was holding a plush velvet jewelry box, carefully locking the latch. Through the soft lining, Vivian caught a glimpse of deep, dazzling blue—her late mother’s legendary star-sapphire necklace.

"The Sovereign Auction house in Geneva just confirmed our private slot for tomorrow night, Julien," Chloe purred, her eyes glittering with unabashed greed as she slipped the box into her leather handbag. "The moment this Blackwood deal is signed, we board the private jet. With the necklace on the block and two hundred million in liquidity, we can wire the proceeds directly to our offshore account before the weekend."

Every word felt like a physical slap across Vivian’s face. Thirty-six hours. That was all the time she had before her mother's last piece of memory was auctioned off to foreign collectors like common loot.

Vivian stepped forward, playing her role of the meek, submissive wife with quiet perfection as she placed a cup of morning espresso near Julien's elbow.

"Are you sure you shouldn't have corporate counsel look over the covenants, darling?" Vivian asked, her voice soft, hesitant, and innocent. "The Blackwoods are known for aggressive financial audits."

Julien scoffed, waving his hand dismissively without looking up. "Don't bother your head with high finance, Vivian. I reviewed the core terms last night. They want our technology, and I'm giving them access."

He didn't read Clause 12B. Blinded by greed and Chloe's whispering in his ear, his eyes skipped directly past the forensic audit contingency, hunting only for the multi-million-dollar disbursement schedule.

With a swift flourish, Julien signed his name in heavy black ink.

Julien Thorne, CEO.

The sharp stroke of the pen echoed like the spring of a trap.

"Call the courier, Chloe," Julien commanded, slapping the leather binder shut. "Tell the pilot to prep the Learjet. We leave for Geneva in one hour." He turned to Vivian, placing a cold, patronizing hand on her shoulder. "Stay at the estate while I'm away. Don't speak to the press."

"Of course, Julien," Vivian replied, offering him a sweet, submissive smile that hid the cold fury burning in her chest.

He gave her cheek a brief, careless kiss and walked out with Chloe, their laughter fading down the corridor.

The moment the office door clicked shut, Vivian wiped her cheek with a silk tissue, her eyes hardening into ice. She pulled out her phone, sending a quick encrypted message to Alexander:

The contract is signed. He’s taking the sapphire necklace to Geneva.

Alexander’s reply came back in seconds:

Clause 12B is active. The Geneva auction is his trapdoor. Get the physical land deed from Vault 04—it’s the final piece to trigger the audit.

Vivian immediately headed for the private executive elevator, pressing the button for the subterranean archive basement. If she was going to ruin Julien the moment he stepped onto the auction floor in Geneva, she needed her father’s original, un-redacted property deed.

The elevator descended deep underground. Stepping out onto the cold concrete floor of Archive Room 04, Vivian walked up to the heavy steel security vault. She pressed her thumb to the biometric scanner.

ACCESS GRANTED: VANCE, VIVIAN.

Her biometrics were hard-coded into the vault's physical firmware—a ghost in the system Julien had never managed to erase. The heavy steel bolts retracted with a pneumatic hiss, and the thick door swung open into the dim room.

Vivian hurried down the central aisle to Section 09, pulling down a heavy black box labeled Master Land Grants & Patents.

Her hands trembled as she popped the brass latches, lifting out the thick parchment deed stamped with her father's official seal. The document proved the Vance land grants were held under an irrevocable family trust—making Julien's corporate buyout completely fraudulent.

"Looking for this, little bird?"

Vivian froze.

The steel vault door behind her slammed shut with a deafening CLANG, the heavy locking bolts firing into place with absolute finality.

Vivian spun around, her heart thudding violently.

Standing in the dim overhead yellow light was Ethan Blackwood. His dark tuxedo jacket was unbuttoned, his silk tie loosened slightly at his throat, his icy blue eyes fixed on her with possessive, predatory focus.

Behind him, Lucian leaned against a row of metal shelves, casually twirling an electronic override key between his long fingers, while Alexander stood by the main wall terminal, plugging a drive into the vault's master server.

"Ethan?" Vivian’s breath hitched, her fingers clutching the paper deed against her chest. "How did you get down here? Julien's security—"

"Julien’s security belongs to us, Vivian," Lucian cut in, his voice a low, gravelly purr as he stepped closer, his shadow falling over her gown. "We bought the building's physical security vendor two hours ago."

Ethan closed the distance between them with slow, terrifying dominance. He stopped inches away, cutting off her line of sight, his heavy male warmth wrapping around her like a fever.

He didn't look at the paper deed. Instead, he reached out, his warm, bare hand wrapping firm and heavy around her wrist, gently pulling her hand—and the document—down between their bodies.

"He's taking your mother's necklace to Geneva, isn't he?" Ethan murmured, his voice deep, rough, and vibrating straight into her chest. He leaned down, his face dipping so close his lips nearly brushed the sensitive skin beneath her ear. "You're terrified he's going to sell it before we tear him down."

Vivian’s breath caught in her throat as the intense physical closeness sent a dangerous, forbidden heat rushing through her veins. "Ethan, please... the audit—"

"The audit is already running," Alexander said softly from the server rack, his eyes fixed on her. "The moment that necklace is placed on the auction block in Geneva, Clause 12B freezes his assets globally."

Lucian stepped up behind her, his chest brushing her back, his hand sliding smoothly around her waist. His fingers pressed suggestively into the delicate curve of her ribs through the silk of her dress, holding her trapped flush against Ethan's towering chest.

"You're trembling, Vivian," Lucian whispered into her hair, his thumb lightly stroking her hip, making her skin burn beneath his touch. "Is it because you're scared of Julien discovering you... or because you remember how good it felt when all three of us had you cornered?"

"Lucian..." Vivian gasped out, her knuckles turning white as she found herself pinned between Ethan’s overwhelming chest and Lucian’s solid frame, with Alexander watching every breath she took.

The raw, unresolved pain of their past—the unresolved misunderstanding of why she had fled three years ago—flared in the air, thick, suffocating, and intoxicatingly tender.

"He put a ring on your finger and locked you in a cage," Ethan murmured, his thumb moving up from her wrist to trace the sharp curve of her jawline, pinning her chin upward until her dark, defiant eyes met his icy gaze. "But in thirty-six hours, when his world crumbles in Geneva... you don't belong to the cage anymore. You belong to us."

Before she could answer, the vault's red emergency light flashed frantically, accompanied by a sharp, deafening alarm bell.

Alexander’s dark eyes snapped to his phone screen, his jaw hardening instantly. "We have an emergency. Julien’s jet was grounded by air traffic control—he realized he left the primary vault key in his office."

Vivian’s heart stopped. "What?"

"Julien is in the elevator right now," Alexander said, his voice cold and flat. "He's coming down to this vault with four armed estate guards."
