Chapter 162

The officers took their chance.

“Drop it!” one yelled, advancing two steps. “Final warning!”

But Jasper didn’t move. His eyes darted wildly between me and Lucian. His arm trembled harder.

“Don’t take another step!” he hissed. “I’ll.....”

He didn’t finish.

Another voice cut through, steady and commanding. “Now!”

Three officers surged forward, tackling him to the ground. The gun clattered away, sliding under the hospital bed. Jasper struggled, shouting incoherently, but he was overpowered. Metal cuffs snapped around his wrists.

The room exhaled all at once.

The silence that followed was deafening, broken only by the sound of my ragged breathing and Lucian’s uneven gasps.

I slumped against the wheelchair, every muscle trembling, my palms slick with sweat.

Jasper lifted his head slightly as they dragged him up. His face was bruised, his hair sticking to his forehead, his eyes glinting with something cold and venomous.

Even then.... even cuffed and defeated, he found me in the

Chapter 254 “Keep talking to her.” The nurse encouraged Nathan. “Elena,” he whispered, his forehead resting against mine. “Stay with me. Just stay.” My vision tunnelled. The last thing I saw before the world softened was Mia being wheeled toward the door on a gurney. Her head turned. Her eyes found mine. Even restrained. Even bleeding. Even defeated. She smiled. It was slow. Cold. Promising. “This isn’t over,” she mouthed. Then the doors swung shut behind her. Darkness crept in. A needle pierced my arm. “Sedative,” someone said gently. “Just enough to calm her system.” I felt it spread through me—warm, heavy, dragging me downward. My body finally stopped shaking. My thoughts blurred. Nathan’s voice faded into an echo. As sleep claimed me, one truth remained, sharp and unrelenting— Mia Collins was alive. And she wasn’t finished with me yet.Few hours later, I woke up slowly, like my body was afraid of re-entering the world. The first thing I felt was the ache

Chapter 253 She laughed as they read her rights—laughed like someone who had nothing left to lose. I couldn’t move. I couldn’t speak. I couldn’t even blink. My body felt hollow, like my soul had been scooped out and replaced with ice. Then the room tilted. The walls bent inward, closing in on me. The beeping of machines grew louder, faster, aggressive—like alarms were going off inside my skull. I sucked in a breath. It didn’t feel like enough. Another breath. Still not enough. My chest tightened painfully, my lungs refusing to expand properly. Panic surged through me, violent and uncontrollable. “I—” I tried to speak, but the word died in my throat. Dark spots crowded my vision. “Elena!” Nathan’s voice cut through the noise, sharp with fear. His arms were around me instantly. I didn’t remember falling—but suddenly I was no longer sitting upright. I was sagging forward, my forehead pressed against his chest, my fingers clutching his shirt like it was the only thing anc

  • HE LEFT ME FOR MY STEPSISTER, I MOVED ON TO THE NEXT   Chapter 252

Chapter 252 Then her knees buckled. She collapsed to the floor with a scream, clutching her injured hand as blood pooled beneath her. Alarms erupted. Shrill. Piercing. Relentless. Red lights flashed above the door. The heart monitor beside me screamed in protest, reacting to the chaos inside my body. Footsteps thundered in the hallway. Voices shouted. Security. Nurses. Police. Everything blurred. I was shaking so violently I couldn’t control it. My gaze was locked on the gun on the floor, the shattered glass, the blood—death’s echo still ringing in my ears. Nathan was suddenly beside me. “Elena,” he said urgently, his hands already working to free me. “Look at me.” I did. And I broke. Tears poured out of me as my body collapsed forward. When the gag came off, my scream finally escaped—raw, loud, shattered. “I thought—” I sobbed. “I thought she was going to kill me.” “I know,” he whispered, pulling me into his chest. “I’m here. I won’t let anyone hurt you.” The door

  • HE LEFT ME FOR MY STEPSISTER, I MOVED ON TO THE NEXT   Chapter 251

Chapter 251 Pain doesn’t always arrive with warning. Sometimes it comes like a whisper— And sometimes it comes like violence tearing the air apart. I heard it before I understood it. A sharp whoosh—too fast, too close—followed by a sound so wet and wrong my stomach lurched. Mia screamed. Not fear. Rage. A scream so full of fury it seemed to rip straight out of her bones. Blood sprayed. I saw it in flashes—red arcing through the sterile white of the room, splattering my sheets, my skin, the wall beside my bed. The smell hit me next. Iron. Heat. Life spilling out. Then the gun fired. The sound was deafening. A violent crack that stole the air from my lungs and froze my heart in my chest. For a split second, I was certain I was dead. Certain the bullet had torn through me and I just hadn’t felt it yet. But instead— The glass exploded. The vase on the windowsill shattered as the bullet slammed into it, porcelain and crystal bursting outward like a grenade. Shards rained d

Chapter 250 “What are you? Tell me! Are you a curse? A miracle? Some kind of siren that just lures everything good into your orbit while the rest of us drown in your wake?” She stopped pacing and stood perfectly still. The silence that followed was heavy, pregnant with the weight of her decision. She stared at me for a long, dangerous moment, and for the first time, the fury in her eyes was replaced by a cold, hollow vacuum. “I hated you,” she said flatly, the emotion draining from her voice. “But worse than that—I needed to beat you. I needed to be the one standing when you weren’t. I needed to prove that I could break the steel and even better than you would ever do!!!!!” Her hand slipped into the pocket of her dark jacket. The movement was slow, deliberate, almost ritualistic. “I’ve watched you slip out of graves meant for you so many times, Elena,” Mia said, her voice now eerily calm, the eye of the storm. “B

  • HE LEFT ME FOR MY STEPSISTER, I MOVED ON TO THE NEXT   Chapter 249

Chapter 249 She stood abruptly, the sudden movement making me flinch. She began to pace the narrow strip of floor between my bed and the window, her silhouette flickering against the red emergency light like a ghost. “I planned everything so carefully, Elena. You have no idea the work I put in. Every step. Every move. I didn't just want you gone; I wanted you to lose. I made Cas tempt Jasper and that idiot had other motives, such a fool!! I took Nathan away from you which fueled the fire that led to your downfall. I built a labyrinth of betrayals, piece by agonizing piece, just to watch you wander into the center of it.” She turned sharply on her heel, her eyes blazing with a fervor that bordered on insanity. “And you ruined it. Again. And again. And again.” My chest tightened so painfully I thought my stitches might actually pop. I watched her, my heart racing so fast the monitor began to beep a frantic, high-pitched warning. Mia glanced at the machine and sneered, reachin
