[Addison]

He's still speaking with that monster but I can't listen to it anymore. Maybe there's a reasonable explanation that he is talking to him this morning even though last night he swore he had nothing to do with him. Even so, I can't stop thinking of my nightmares, the ones where I see my parents die. Now that I'm older and I better understand what was unfolding around me, I am certain it was because of the mob that I had to hide.

I’m supposed to be hiding from the mobsters. And here I am, in love with one of them.

Closing the door most of the way, I hide under the covers, hoping he doesn't notice that I had been eavesdropping. My heart racing, I try to calm my breath in the semblance of something that sounds like sleep, hoping it will be good enough to fool him.

Squeezing my eyes shut, I consider my options.

Even though I became someone new and lost all of my fortune in the mess of my marriage, I’m not without resources. Thanks to Hunter, I have new wealth of my own, one tha

  • Divorced But Desired by the Mafia King   Chapter 131

[The Spy] [20 minutes ago]My international reputation and connection with Hunter made it easy to secure my appointment. It was harder to distract the stylist so that I could make my way to the back gate and open the door under the guise of “needing some air.” I was followed, of course, but we were expecting that. The last time I was at Grant Group, I copied the security protocol for RoseThorn using their own computer systems. Said I needed it for my villa because I was feeling “unsafe with all the developments around the city” and because “Mr. Grant wants to make sure I stay safe.” Nobody questioned that either. They really should have. Mr. D will be thrilled. The men sent to guard me fall to the ground around me like discarded toys and I step forward to enter the outer gate key. 30 men wearing masks and wearing armor stamped with the Grant Group logo march through the door holding assault riffles. This time the armor isn’t fake–they were taken from a container ship delayed bet

  • Divorced But Desired by the Mafia King   Chapter 130

[Addison/Vanessa]It's funny, the things we think of when we look back at our life and see the pivotal moments that changed everything. I've had so many in my life, you'd think I'd be better at noticing them. I should have just told him about the child. I should have said the rest of what was in my heart. I didn't realize I might not have another chance. I know that our life is not an easy one, or a simple one. Nothing about our world is safe. Every moment of happiness needs to enjoyed to its fullest and savored as the treasure that it is. I should have held onto him tighter. Livy rushed up to us as Hunter set me down. "Did she say yes?" she asked hesitantly, her small face turned up to us both expectantly. "Yes, I did," I confirm, holding up my hand to show her my ring, a rock large enough to buy a small country. How am I going to walk around with something like this inconspicuously? I guess it's a good thing my fiance comes with a small army of personal guards. Livy jumps up an

[Addison/Vanessa]It feels like an eternity has passed from the moment the words left my lips as I nervously wait for his reaction. At first he doesn’t say anything, but then he does something that surprises me. Kneeling before me again, he pulls out his ring one more time. “Vanessa Addison Vandersteele,” he begins, holding the ring aloft. “I am willing to slay any dragon and fight any beast by your side, as long as you let me stay next to you forever. Please, give me the chance to get to know you every day for the rest of my life. Marry me.”His dark blue eyes are soft with love yet sharp with determination. He means what he says–he’ll help me fight back. “Even if it puts your family in danger?” I ask. “Even if you or…” I can’t say the words, I wouldn’t want to curse poor Livy. I’d die to keep that little girl safe. “Do you trust me to keep you safe?” He asks, his jaw set. “I promise you that with all that I am that I will protect my family and keep them from harm…and that includ

[Hunter]“Then let me get to know you,” I request, holding her close. “I promise, there is nothing that you could say that would make me love you less.”“I wouldn’t be so sure of that,” she pulls away, turning her back to me as she looks over towards the skyline. The old Vandersteele Tower, once the tallest skyscraper in the city, gleams like a gem. Debrassy Corp owns it now. When the Vandersteele family was decimated, there was no one left to take over the family business–Debrassy was able to purchase it for almost nothing only to leave it empty, like a trophy. The lights are on, but nobody has been home for a very long time. “Your family was once close to the Vandersteeles, right?” she changes the subject, staring over at the tower as it blinks to us from across the city. “And the Debrassys…” “They were never part of our circle,” I think back to my childhood. “I remember when they came to New York,” I begin, “Debrassy’s grandfather, Damien, said that he was looking for his family l

[Hunter]I wasn’t expecting her to say no. Livy looks between us, confused. “Why aren’t you two kissing?” My poor niece. I shouldn’t have brought her here without knowing for certain that Addison would accept. It was foolhardy of me to just assume she would want me as much as I want her. It’s just…I can’t imagine my life without her. I want to spend the rest of my life with her.But maybe that’s too much to expect for a gangster like me. “Livy, Auntie Addy and I need to talk alone. Could you wait for us at the table?”“Okay,” she bounds off to the seat that was prepared for her. There is an elegant dinner waiting for our celebration that seems less enticing now that I know her heart. “I’m sorry, Hunter.” Addison looks down and away. “I didn’t mean to hurt you. I wasn’t expecting Livy to be here either,” her face falls as a tear rolls down her cheek. “I just can’t marry you…I…It wouldn’t be fair.” “Fair? In what way? Is it because of the money? Or is it,” I swallow, dreading this

  • Divorced But Desired by the Mafia King   Chapter 126

[Addison]What if Hunter learns the truth, that I've been lying about who I am the whole time, will he still want me then?I need to tell him the truth. It wouldn't be fair otherwise. How can we build a future together if he doesn't know the truth about my past? The elevators open with a clean clear ding, opening to a grand dining space in a rooftop garden. A small, intimate table sits with three spots: One for Hunter, one for me, and one for...Livy.Running towards me, her arms outstretched, my beautiful little friend lets me scoop her into my arms, her legs wrapping round my waist. "You look like a princess," I compliment her as I praise how perfect she looks in her bright yellow dress with its full crinoline of equally bright yellow, sparkling rhinestones swirling along the bodice and hem. "You too," her voice is small and scratchy from disuse. Biting back a small moan of surprise, I try my best not to cry at the sweet sound of her words. It's been so long since she's said anything
