Chapter 0008

The woman in the private dining room was beautiful and carried herself with grace.

She was taken aback when Karl arrived accompanied by a woman. She stood up and offered a gentle smile.

“Karl, this is…”

Karl smiled. “This is Timothy’s tutor. You can address her as Ms. Wendell.”

The woman smiled faintly. “Hello, Ms. Wendell. I’m Willow Yves.”

Danielle nodded at her. “Hello, Ms. Yves.”

Karl took a seat. “Sit.”

Danielle sat next to him.

Willow turned away from Danielle and looked at Karl. “I was worried I might interfere with your work schedule by asking you out for lunch.”

“No, but I hope you don’t mind that I brought Ms. Wendell along. I was supposed to have lunch with her.”

Willow shook her head and smiled. “Not at all, so long as Ms. Wendell doesn’t mind. I ordered your favorite before you arrived, but I have no idea what Ms. Wendell would like to have. I’ll ask for the menu so you can have a look, Ms. Wendell.”

Danielle waved her arm. “It’s alright, Ms. Yves. I’m not fussy with food.”

Karl ran his fingers down Danielle’s hair and said lovingly, “She’s not fussy with food. She’ll just have what I’m having.”

His gesture made Willow’s smile stiffen.

Despite that, Willow quickly put on a natural grin. “Okay. I’ll tell the waiter Ms. Wendell will be having the same thing. Please do enjoy the food later, Ms. Wendell.”

Danielle felt awkward as Karl startled her by suddenly stroking her head.

During the meal, Karl also tended to her like a gentle boyfriend.

Willow, on the other hand, spoke little and ate her food with poise.

However, Willow would look at Danielle every now and then, but her eyes gave away nothing.

After lunch, the trio left the restaurant together.

Karl put his arm around Danielle's shoulder as they walked Willow to her car.

Willow looked back at Danielle and uttered in a soft voice, “Ms. Wendell, can I have a moment with Karl?”

“Sure, I’ll head to the car.” Danielle turned around and walked to Karl’s car.

Once Danielle was gone, Willow bit her lips and looked at Karl with tearful eyes. “Have you been well?”

“Yes.”

“Don’t try to upset me that way again. I don’t want to cause you distress.”

Karl looked away. “I’m not trying to upset you. I honestly think Ms. Wendell is nice. Don’t you think so?”

“I know you, Karl. I know that because of me, you–”

Karl met her gaze and smiled. “You should head back. I have to drop Ms. Wendell off at school, and I have a meeting later.”

Then, he opened the car door for her.

Willow sighed, hung her head low, and murmured a sorry before getting into the car to leave.

Back in the car, Danielle folded her arms and gave Karl a smirk.

Karl frowned peevishly. “What’s that smile for?”

“You like that woman.”

Karl narrowed his eyes at her.

She pursed her lips. “You brought me along to get on Ms. Yves’ nerves, but you didn’t have to do that. The feelings are mutual.”

“What do you know? In the future, you should quit making your assumptions.” He scowled and started the car to drive away.

Danielle pouted. ‘In the future? I have no plans to meet again.’

She did not want to have any further interactions with a powerful man like him.

Her mother once said not to trust a man with money and that Danielle was to stay as far away from those types as possible.

With Max as a prime example, the last thing Danielle wanted was to repeat the same mistake.

However, Danielle might have been overthinking the situation with Karl.

She was relieved to learn that Karl had a crush on someone else. At least, she did not have to keep her guard up all the time.
