Clarence’s POV.

The moment I saw Damon standing there in my hospital room, something inside me stopped. For a second, I thought I might be hallucinating. Maybe the concussion was messing with my brain but he was real.

Standing just a few feet from my bed, wearing that same unreadable expression he always wore when he didn’t want anyone to know what he was thinking.

I hadn’t seen him since the day of Gina’s wedding. I remembered hearing that he had been arrested right after the ceremony—hauled out in front of everyone for investment fraud. So how the hell was he standing here now, looking perfectly fine?

“I thought you were in jail,” I finally said, my voice a little hoarse.

He gave me a small shrug, as if it was nothing worth explaining. “I was cleared. They dropped the charges. Turns out I wasn’t the one behind it. I just had to pay a fine for negligence. Nothing serious.”

I stared at him, trying to process the words. Cleared? Just like that?

“You’re telling me,” I said slowly, “tha

Clarence’s POV. The hospital room felt less suffocating after a few days, and by the time I was discharged, I was desperate for the quietness of home. Julian brought me back himself, as he always insisted on doing things personally, especially when it came to me. He didn’t want me walking around too much, even though the doctor said I would heal completely with time. That evening, we had dinner in the garden. He had made sure the table was set with all my favorites. The breeze was light, the food warm, and his presence grounding. But my appetite was missing, just like my peace. I pushed a fork around my plate, and the food was barely touched. “I had that dream again last night,” I said, softly. Julian looked up from his plate. “The one about your mother?” I nodded. “It’s always the same. We’re in the car. It’s raining. She’s glancing at me through the rearview mirror, saying something I can’t quite hear. Then the horn, the screech… and then she’s gone.” He set his fork down,

Clarence’s POV.I opened my eyes slowly to the soft beeping of machines. The sterile scent of disinfectant clung to the air. My head felt heavy, and my body still ached from the accident. I had been in and out of consciousness since I was brought in, but today, I felt more awake—alert enough to notice the small details. The drawn curtains, the flowers on the nightstand, and the fact that I was alone.Julian had work to do so I bet that was why he wasn't around. As a doctor, he was busier and could not take breaks as he would do back then while he still worked in the company and I totally understood knowing he would be here with me at any slightest chance or space he gets.I lay on the bed lost in thoughts until the door creaked open, bringing me out of my thoughts and Damon stepped in with a plastic bag in one hand and a bouquet of lilies in the other.“Hey. Good day,” he greeted with a smile that almost didn't reach his eyes as he came closer. His sudden visit and presence left me on

Kristina’s POV. I didn’t know how long I had been running. Everything felt like a blur—the woods, the gravel road and the cold wind scraping my skin. My feet ached. My throat burned. But none of that mattered. I was out. Finally free. After months of being locked away, drugged, silenced, and forgotten by the people who were supposed to love me, I had slipped through their grasp. The retreat they called it. A private place tucked in the mountains. A place for healing, my mother said. But there was no healing in that place. Just white walls, locked doors, and endless silence. No phones, no visitors. Just me, my regrets, and the ghosts of who I used to be. By the time I made it to the city, my knees gave out. Right there—on the curb outside a neon-lit building that pulsed with music and cigarette smoke—I collapsed. No strength left to fake dignity. I heard someone call my name. At first, I thought I imagined it. But then she crouched beside me. Big hair, bold makeup and a worried
