Lavender:
My heart had skipped a beat, and the world had tilted beneath my feet. I swear, I stared at him for a good few minutes, even though they noticed.
“You good? You look like you just saw a ghost,” Nikon snapped his fingers in front of my face, snapping me back to the present.
I nodded, feeling paralyzed in my body.
“I wasn’t eavesdropping—I was asked by my mom to bring everyone for breakfast,” thank goodness my brain worked at the right moment, and I came up with an excuse. Even if they didn’t believe me, I had done my part.
My head was spinning, and my thoughts were all over the place.
I couldn’t even look back at Easton without realizing I had been in the dark about literally everything.
The nice, good guy, who couldn’t stand to see anyone in pain, was talking about my grave just a minute ago.
He was so fake—all his songs and interviews, all his runway walks where he acted all shy yet sexy—it was all a fake persona. It has to be.
"Anyway, this is Lavender, she’s our nineteen-year-old sister," Nikon used a dry tone to introduce me, with a rough hand gesture.
"And Lavender, this is the youngest one, Igor!" Nikon then proceeded to point at the green-eyed brother, the one who had caught me listening in on his brothers. Igor was just as tall as Nikon. They were both broad with slim waists. If I had to compare them to someone, I’d probably say they were like the hot CEO anime guys, but with real darkness in their hearts.
"And this is Easton, the model and singer, and your sweet stepbrother," it was Nikon’s way of remembering his brother’s online fake persona.
With a roll of his eyes, Easton gave me a nod. I couldn’t accept his greeting—not after he had fooled me all these months into writing speeches for him and clearing his name from all the rumors that basically said he was fake. I was always doing PR work for him, making videos and comments to debunk the poor victims who had crossed paths with him and complained about his behavior.
Now I felt so bad for them. I was such a desperate fan that I hurt the true victims.
"Let’s go, our stepmother has prepared breakfast for us," Nikon, being the oldest, seemed to be in charge of their behavior. He was the one eyeing them and gesturing for them to act a certain way. Either way, I had just had the shock of my life, and there was something I needed to take care of before I got caught.
I had tons of pictures of Easton in my room and on my side table. Heck, I was even thinking about hanging his poster on one of my walls.
Imagine getting caught thirsting over your stepbrother.
Everyone would chew me out and throw me out.
"Where are you going?" As the brothers started to walk away, I began to retreat.
That's when Nikon stopped me dead in my tracks.
"I forgot something in my room," I quickly excused myself, turning around to avoid their gaze and quickly walked away from them. I climbed the stairs, and once I was in my room, I started grabbing the pictures, magazines, and anything that could hint at my crush on him, tossing it all into a bag.
I then shoved the bag under the bed and rushed to the bathroom to wash my face. My cheeks were burning.
My mind was full of mixed emotions. On one hand, I was wondering if Easton's hostility was because his father had brought another woman into their home, and maybe he had no part in his brother's mafia business. I mean, Easton was making money for himself, so maybe he didn't like the lifestyle and chose to do his own thing.
On the other hand, I had finally met my crush, saw him breathe and speak in person, but I couldn’t even be happy about it because there was this huge barrier between us, making my crush on him feel like a disgusting taboo.
While I was in the bathroom, I heard a strange buzzing noise from my room. Almost like something was vibrating. My phone was with me, so what could it be?
Unlocking the door, I stepped into my room and saw a pink bag on my bed with the zipper open. The noise was coming from the bag itself. I reached for the bag, confused about where it had come from, but my confusion quickly turned into shock when I saw what was making the noise.
I swear I never owned one of these, so what the heck was this bag doing in my room? I grabbed the vibrating item and then peered inside, my skin crawling with goosebumps.
There were so many of them, different shapes, different types.
"After you met your brothers?" Hearing a man’s voice while I was alone in my room startled me, making me step back from the bag with the vibrator in my hand.
I swear I didn’t own these, but I had seen the pink bag with Normani once. Did she leave it here just to get me in trouble?
Was she already back to her old tricks?
But that could wait. Right now, I had to deal with the stepbrother who was looking at me all weird.
Igor raised an eyebrow, blinking slowly, as if he was trying to calm himself down before confronting me.
"It’s---not mine," I stuttered, my breathing shallow.
"Turn it off," he hissed, sounding really angry.
I struggled with it for a moment before he lunged at me, snatched it out of my hand, and broke it on the ground, suddenly making it go silent.
"What is this?" he hissed in my face while I pulled myself together. "So this is why you didn’t want to come to breakfast? Such an early morning, and right after meeting your stepbrothers?" The disgust in his voice made me feel like hell. What if he found out I had a crush on my stepbrother too?
"No, I swear—" I couldn’t get the words out while he walked over to grab the bag.
"Let’s display it on the breakfast table so my father knows what kind of disgusting family he brought into our home," his words were a mix of taunt and anger.
I held onto the strap of the bag from the other side to stop him from taking it.
"I swear it’s not mine. I was in the bathroom and heard---," I hated how I couldn’t talk when I was under pressure. It always made things worse for me.
Igor let go of the bag and walked away, his eyes on me, giving little head nods.
He wore a black leather jacket with the collar up, his tattoos on his neck standing out.
He then stood near the stairs and peeked down. "Ayo, Nikon! Come see what kind of kinks our stepsister has."
Lavender:“A Mafia’s wife,” she added and they grew more excited. At first, I thought that once they put me on camera, I would tell them I was Mafia King Nikon's wife. But when Kenzie introduced me as a rich man’s wife and everyone grew even more excited, I realized it was a terrible idea. These people hid behind masks, but their hatred for the rich people was clear. To them, stealing and hurting a boss’s wife was a twisted kink.I whimpered constantly, feeling sick to my stomach. My head spun as if I might pass out. I wasn’t even sure if a whole day had gone by, after the car ride it looked like night outside. I was exhausted and unwell. Then the bidding started. The men on camera held up pieces of paper with their offers, one after another, until the highest bidder won. Tears streamed down my face as I watched them bid on me. The price climbed to one million dollars, only because I was the Mafia’s wife. I had seen others sold for almost nothing. One girl went for only a hundred thou
Lavender:"Or, I can say you gave the right answer and I’ll give you 1 million dollars." The minute she said that, Lowell spoke up."From her face to her body. Everything." That was all he said before Denise turned to him and smacked him across the face."I fucking hate you!" she screamed, and he just shrugged."Baby now we have 1 million dollars,” he uttered, rubbing his cheek. Kenzie started laughing and shook her head."Learn from your husband. He knows how to make money. And look at me, I lost the love of my life, but I’m still confident." Kenzie placed her hand on Denise’s shoulder, and I could tell Denise wanted to turn around and smack her, but she wouldn’t."You know why?" Kenzie asked. Denise finally faced her after calming herself down."Because I know I can take her out of his life just like this." Kenzie snapped her fingers.Even if I tried to run, I wouldn’t make it out alive. Their guards were everywhere. They would catch me before I could take even a few steps."What ar
Lavender:I didn't know where they were taking me. All I knew was that I couldn’t make a sound. I only shed some tears and tried to free myself from the restraints, but it was impossible. The three of them kept their eyes on me, watching, waiting for me to try and break free so they could lunge and pull me back again. I kept wondering what my fate was going to be.They hadn’t said anything. No threats after they first introduced themselves. After that, the two women just talked to each other, over-exaggerating everything in their lives, saying a bunch of nothing. Lowell just sat there silently staring at me. He would only look away when his wife turned to glance at him and then at me. That was when he acted like he hadn’t been staring at all.I felt like my life was over. They had thrown my phone into a different car so that if Nikon tried to chase me, he would go after the wrong one. After hours of driving, it was late at night when the car finally stopped.I began anxiously looking
Lavender:It had been a week, and things were pretty much back to normal, at least at the manor. I didn’t escape my mother’s harsh glares or my half-sister’s whispering, but that was all they could do. They didn’t argue with me anymore, so that was good. Then there was Easton and Igor. I went to Igor’s room only with my husband, just to check on him and remind him we were there for him. I wanted to create an environment where I felt more like a sister-in-law than an ex they had been wronged by. I hoped things would stay that way.As for Kenzie, I heard she was staying with Denise, and I could only expect them to sit and talk so much shit about me. In college, I had seen Denise give me harsh glares, and I could tell why. It probably came from the fact that her friend was out of the house and out of Nikon’s life. But she didn’t confront me directly, and I was glad she didn’t, because that would have been a problem. But there was one more thing that had happened. Igor's best friend, the
Lavender:We returned to our bedroom after Kenzie packed her bags and left the mansion. We watched her go, heading to a hotel or wherever she planned to stay. I heard her tell the driver to take her to Denise's place, so I could already imagine them sitting together and bad-mouthing me. Did it bother me? No. My husband had taken my side in front of everyone, even when it could cost him so much. So a few gossips didn’t matter at all."What have you done, Nikon?" The moment we were in our room, I started bombarding him with questions. He loosened his tie and tossed it aside."She had the nerve to ask me to leave you," he said, pointing at me. I sighed and put my hands on my waist."Nikon, the right thing would have been for you to divorce me." The second I said that, I saw his eyes widen like he was in disbelief."Wait, before you get upset with me, just listen." I instantly changed my tone, trying to make him understand where I was coming from. "I don't want you to divorce me either. B
Lavender:"Come on. We have to make the decision now," she insisted, her voice stern but almost pleading.I looked at Nikon, trying my best to make him understand that he needed to divorce me. At least for now. Later we could get married again. It’s not like she would stay in his life forever. But she was the only one who could take him to his mother.Nikon stared her in the eye, then turned to look at me. I gave him another look."Okay, I think I know what will happen. I’ll go pack my bags and leave his room. I’ll shift to the guest room," I said loudly, making sure he didn’t get a chance to ruin it with emotions.Kenzie’s face relaxed and her arms unfolded from her chest. My mom turned to Volkov, who gave her a smile and a nod. Was that really what they wanted? Even my own mother? As soon as I began to leave, I felt a grip on my arm. I turned to see Nikon holding my hand. He steadily pulled me back against his chest, and the smiles of comfort and satisfaction on everyone’s faces beg
