CHAPTER THIRTY

“And why were you with Christopher in just a swimsuit?” he asked, his tone laced with irritation. I felt the familiar pang of annoyance rise within me.

“I was not standing in front of him just in a swimsuit. I had a towel wrapped around me,” I responded, my voice defensive as I tried to explain myself. His expression, however, only grew more severe, his features tightening with anger.

“I do not want you standing practically naked in front of any male. Have you heard that?” His words were clipped, each one dripping with possessiveness.

“Then why don’t you go and question him about why he entered when he saw that I was there?” I shot back, refusing to let him pin the blame on me. My frustration boiled over. It wasn’t my fault that Christopher had walked in; I was already at the pool when he came in unannounced. I had never invited him to join me.

“Okay, so why are you not wearing the dresses that I bought?” he demanded, his voice rising with each word. He stood there, hands
