“So let me get this straight. You bailed on coming to my place for dinner so you could go to some stuffy grand opening of Mason Remington, your brother’s friend hotel, and while you were there, Mason offered you a job. Which you are to go for the interview in his office at Eleven this morning.”
Mia slouched on the couch across from her boyfriend Ross, rubbing her eyes in an effort to get rid of the sleep hanging over her. She hadn’t slept very much all night. How could she?
She should be doing this or lying to him, she doesn't even need a job or money. Chris always provided generously for her. An apartment, whatever she needed, even though after graduating she’d made the effort not to rely on him for support.
It was a miracle that she actually completed her degree and graduated with honours. Chris and Mason had pointed out that much earlier that it was a perfectly useless degree. Chris had wanted her to pursue a business degree. He wanted to bring her into the “family” business. But she wasn’t sure yet what she wanted to do. She loved baking but hadn't found the courage to start a business with it. What she even doing?
The people she’d graduated with had already moved into jobs. They were making careers. She was still dragging her feet as to what she wanted to do with the rest of her life.
Ross also took care as well, made sure she had everything she could possibly want. He would frequently buy her clothes, shoes and sent his maid to stock up her house with the groceries she needed. She barely cooked or ate. Most times she eats out or at Amber her best friend's place.
She was liar, a deceitful person. This made her feel guilty, she had the luxury of taking time to make decisions. She should tell Ross, how was she sure Mason even had feelings for her or would even consider her for a relationship for all she knew he basically just found her attractive and although she would not mind her few shacks with him, she wanted something more with Mason.
"Hello! earth to Lisa", Ross calling out of her thoughts.
“Pretty much, yeah,” Mia replied.
“Lisa is there something you aren't telling me? The guy is a freaking billionaire, I get he is your family’s closest friend and you basically grew up together but he could definitely hire a more qualified person for the job. Why in the hell you?”
“Why me? so you think I'm unqualified just because I'm rich and I technically don't have problems in my life right.?” Mia asked, frustration making her voice edgy.
She knew it didn't make sense but he was looking down on her and it made her feel like she has always felt all her life. Useless.
"It was just a question Lisa, don't turn this around on me".
"Seemed like a pointless question to me, I didn't have to tell you, I just felt it necessary cause we are in relationship and wouldn't want you finding out from someone else", she said in a tone more upset than before. Ross rolled his eyes. “He wants you; he likes you. I know it, I see the way he looks at you. And why wouldn’t he? You're young and hot, and I bet you’ve starred in his fantasies a time or two over the years.”
Mia wrinkled her nose. “You making sound different from what it is Ross. It is just a job. Chris probably asked him to do it.”
“Oh, for God’s sake. Don't freaking lie to me, it’s not like you haven’t lusted over him since you were a teenager. And it’s not like if he ever acted on those urges you wouldn’t have given into him. You’re twenty-two now, you are no a child. You don't even want to spend any time with me anymore. I get that you just with me for our families but we are good together and I really do love you Lisa”
“Ross, I have to tell you something,” she said, worry evident in her tone. She had to tell him how she really felt and end things properly.
Just then a call came in on Ross's phone he picked it up and answered. Probably about work. Ross was from a rich family. He's dad was late but had his own clothing line which was the one biggest name in the clothes industry today. Ross was had a younger sister as well but she was in school in Germany and his mum well, was like every typical rich window. Spending money and travelling every other day.
Just then he came back and sat down beside me.
“I have to go now, but can we talk when I get back? I am definitely not in support of this job thing but I won't stop you from actually giving it a trial". He said while rubbing her hand in his.
"Thank you, Ross"
Ross kissed her just then, slow and gentle, everything Mason was not. She and Ross weren't intimate yet but had had few heated make outs. She always made sure she didn't sleepover. She wasn't ready to be with him that way. They had been together a while but she always didn't feel like she wanted Ross in that way. He didn't even ask, so eventually they just never came around to it.
He pulled away and looked at his watch then levelled a pointed stare in Lisa’s direction.
“You’ve got less than an hour to get ready before you have to leave. I suggest you get off the couch and go get ready. I'll call you later. Good luck”
And just like that he was out the door and gone. She would end things tonight with Ross and if a relationship actually comes out of from her soon to be involvement with Mason, then so be it. If not then she was ready to accept whatever he could give her.
“What am I even going to wear,” Mia muttered to herself, yesterday events still befuddled her. She was practically walking into a dis aster waiting to happen.
Lisa got out of her car and gave the keys the valet, she was driving a CRV nothing fancy, she just needed to be mobile and she hated the thought of having to wait for a driving to take her anywhere. She was in front of Remington Atlantic, she m sighed at the positively gorgeous weather. The wind ruffled her hair, hinting at the little chill was inevitable. The days were getting cooler than usual. She hurried into the high-rise building and dug out her security pass. To get by the turnstile leading to the elevators. She been given the pass when given a tour of offices when it newly opened a few years earlier, but she hadn’t had to use it very often since she was usually with Chris when she visited. She checked her watch when she got on the elevator. It was five minutes to Eleven, and she hated being late. Not that she was—at least not yet—but she was one of those people who was always early. Being late made her anxious,
The firm but gentle command washed through the haze of confusion. Her eyes widened as her gaze found his, she rose, her legs shaky, and she rubbed her hands down her thighs in an attempt to steady herself. Then she took that first step and walked around his desk to where he was still seated in his executive chair. He reached for her hand and once he had his fingers intertwined with hers, he dragged her down onto his lap. She landed clumsily but he adjusted on the chair to create more room for her so she was nestled against his chest and tucked into his side. With his free hand, he went gentle for her neck and gentle dragged her face so she was looking directly at his. Eyes matching and their faces just and inch away from each other. With the other hand he held back closer to him. “The relationship I’m proposing is not a quite different,” he said. “I’ll not have you agree to it without knowing exactly where you stand and
Instead of driving back to her apartment where she knew Ross might be waiting, she stopped at a park, just two blocks from where she lived. She had to tell him her real feelings now, she knew she had already accepted Masons proposal, there was no way she could say no to him. She didn’t have the guts. The small park wasn’t often overcrowded at this hour of the morning. Mostly children and nannies or young pre-schoolers playing. The contract was stuffed into her bag and she clutched it against her side as she made her way to an empty bench the farthest distance from the playground where she could be sure of some measure of privacy.Mason’s autocratic demand that she quit and come to work for him echoed in her mind. Although she could very well live off of the men in life for as long as she wanted but the money Chris had put into her education, she needed to figure out her next step, and to somehow make her feel good that she wasn’t completel
Mason Remington was going to burn in hell for eternity and he didn’t give a care. Lisa Woods walked into the room where Remington Atlantic was holding its grand opening for its newly launched Hotel and he hadn't been able to take his gaze off her.She was fucking stunning but sadly a forbidden fruit. His best friend’s little sister. As if that wasn't enough, she was engaged to be married to her long-term boyfriend, Ross or Ryan, whatever his name was he absolutely hated him.The little girl he watched growing up wasn’t so little anymore. She’d become somewhat of a burden for him whenever she came close. Her scent, her eyes, her freakishly cute smile. He'd try to fight it but found himself unable to resist her powerful lure. But he was done, he wasn't going fighting it any longer. She was here, tonight, and his best friend Chris was nowhere around, along with her stupid boyfriend which only more than confirmed to Mason that t
Lisa Woods was stunned. There was something about the man that just made her stupid. She couldn’t talk, couldn’t think, couldn't form a single coherent thought. Oh no her fantasies, her imagination…they had nothing on the real thing. Her legs wobbled and shook, and she prayed she wouldn’t go down, a victim of the heels she’d worn. Nothing in the world could have prepared her for what just happened. Mason had kissed her. Not just kissed her, but he’d dragged her away from the crowd and ravaged her.Her lips still tingled from his sensual assault. She was wrecked. Totally wrecked. Was she dreaming? -- She knew she hadn’t drunk that much so she was sure it wasn't the alcohol. It was Mason. The man lethal to her senses. Her fixation.Oh God she felt sorry for Ross, any little feelings she had for him had just been flushed down the drain. In totally honesty she was never really in love with hi
