Ocean’s POV

For a moment, I just lay there, cocooned under the sheets, staring at the ceiling of my room in the penthouse. Silence pressed down on me, but not the peaceful kind—the heavy silence that follows a storm when you know another one is brewing.

Paul’s face flashed in my mind.

The way his silly jokes last night. The flicker of awareness in his eyes. Hope had cracked me open in ways I didn’t expect. I’d held his hand and whispered his name like a prayer, my heart pounding with a mixture of relief and fear. He was still here. He was still fighting.

And for that—I couldn’t deny it—Sebastian was the reason.

The thought was a double-edged sword. Gratitude burned hot in my chest, but right beside it was another feeling I hated even more: unease.

Because when I’d walked into his office, I saw it.

The file.

Not much, just the corner sticking out of a drawer. But I knew the look of paperwork too well. Organized. Tidy. Hidden. Something you weren’t supposed to stumble across. An

The elevator ride to the top floor felt like a countdown.Ocean stood beside me, her knuckles tight around the laptop she refused to let go of.Her eyes were clearer now...no more disbelief, no more shock.Only fire. The woman beside me wasn’t the wounded heir anymore. She was the rightful ruler, rising. And God help the man who tried to take her throne. When the elevator doors opened, our private hallway hummed with heat and shadow. Red emergency lights blinked in quiet rhythm....my security system guiding me to the breach.“Boardroom,” I muttered. “He’s targeting the remote-access node first.”Ocean matched my stride. “Why would he go for the board before the money?”“Because money helps you win battles,” I said. “But controlling the board wins the war.”“And he wants the title,” she whispered. “He wants the seat my father saved for me.”The hurt threaded through her voice, nearly invisible...but I heard it.I always heard it.Without thinking, I reached for her hand. She let me hol

The war-room lights didn’t flicker by accident. They pulsed very rapid, coded, a security alert coming from a system I built myself.A system no one should be able to breach.A system that protected only two things:My empire. And Ocean’s inheritance. My jaw locked so tightly I felt the tension crawl up my neck.“Someone’s inside my offshore servers,” I said, my voice slow, low, deadly. “No...inside yours, Ocean. Your father’s dormant accounts.”Ocean whipped toward me, eyes wide. “What? How...”Lucien stepped closer, expression unreadable. “Then the traitor isn’t just after you. They’re trying to cripple her before she even stands.”Ocean’s confusion dissolved into fury that's beautiful, sharp, righteous fury. “Who the hell has access to my father’s files except us?”“Someone who was waiting,” I muttered, pacing toward the security console. “Someone who knew exactly when you would rediscover your legacy. Someone who anticipated your move.”Ocean inhaled sharply. “Marcus.”“No,” Lucie

For a moment, no one moved. The man in the elevator stood perfectly still, hands in his pockets like he owned the place. Like he belonged here. Like he had the right to stand across from Sebastian Velez and tilt his head with a smirk that carried ten years of buried fury.I felt Sebastian go rigid beside me.Not afraid. Not startled. But… shaken. In a way I’d never seen.“Sebastian,” I whispered. His jaw clenched. “Stay behind me.”“No.” My voice came out steady. “I’m not letting you face this alone.”The man stepped forward, slow, casual, dripping with taunt and confidence. He was tall—Sebastian-tall. Broad shoulders. Familiar bone structure. A face carved with sharp precision… but with colder eyes, lighter hair, and a different darkness.Like Sebastian’s reflection, but twisted.Sharpened.Harder.His gaze flicked to me, lingered, then returned to Sebastian.“I heard you replaced me,” the man said, voice smooth as expensive whiskey and twice as dangerous. “Upgraded, even.”“Lucien,”

The security monitor froze mid-glitch, the shadow on the feed stretched like a silhouette carved from darkness itself. For a moment, I thought the room had turned cold—then I realized it was my blood. Every instinct in my body went tense.“Sebastian,” I whispered. He was already moving. His chair scraped against the marble, his eyes narrowing as he replayed the footage frame by frame. “They’re inside,” he said, voice low, almost too calm. “Inside my building.”No. Not his building. Our battleground. The war room’s lights dimmed as Sebastian activated the lockdown sequence. Metal shutters slid over the glass walls, sealing us in with a hiss that felt both protective and terrifying. My heart hammered, but not with fear—more like adrenaline laced with fury. Whoever stepped into our perimeter didn’t just trespass. They declared war.The monitor glitched again, then finally resolved into a clear frame.A figure in a hood. Tall. Precise steps. Moving like someone who knew the layout.Too we

The encrypted message still burned on the screen, its cold, mechanical text a stark contrast to the storm of blood and obsession inside me. Board member compromised. Marcus moves tonight. Be ready—or burn.I felt Ocean behind me, her presence a quiet pulse of strength and fire, as if she were the calm and chaos fused into one. She didn’t speak, just watched, letting the tension in the room coil around her like a living thing. Her gaze caught mine, sharp and calculating, yet soft enough to slice through the darkness I carried.“You’re thinking too much,” she said quietly, but there was a grin tugging at the corners of her lips, dangerous and teasing. “I can see it. Your jaw’s too tight, your shoulders too stiff. You’ve been planning for hours, and I don’t even think you’ve blinked.”I almost growled. Almost—but her insight made me shiver in ways no one else ever could. She sees me. Not just the Velez CEO, not just the ruthless strategist. She sees Sebastian.“I don’t have the luxury of

The first thing I noticed was the smell.Iron. Blood. And fear. Not my fear—never mine—but the trembling stench of everyone else who thought they could touch what belonged to me.The assassin was alive, barely. Tied to a chair in the middle of my private war room—a glass-encased space that was both my sanctum and my cage of strategy. Red neon under the floorboards pulsed faintly, reflecting off the metal cuffs around his wrists. He looked like someone who had expected mercy, or maybe luck, and had learned too late that neither would be extended in my domain.I circled him slowly, every step deliberate, calculated. My tie hung loose around my neck, sleeves rolled to elbows, exposing a subtle sheen of sweat from running through multiple simulations in my head. Each scenario involved Isla getting hurt—and none of them ended well. Not for me. Not for anyone who tried to touch her.“You’re going to tell me exactly who sent you,” I said. My voice was low, controlled—but the undertone was a
