MasukZachary’s POV
“Don’t touch me!” Livia’s voice cracked, sharp as shattered glass, the moment I wanted to hold her from leaving.
“I wasn’t asking,” I muttered, grabbing her by the waist and pulling her against me even as she protested. “Stop pretending you don’t feel this.”
“Feel what?” she spat, irritation showing on her face as she struggled against my hold.“Your arrogance or obsession?” she added.
“My pull over you,” I growled, lowering my face closer to hers, and our faces were like inches apart. “You have always reacted to me, Livia. Your body never lies.” I said confidently.
“Get your hands off me!” she yelled.
Her palms slammed hard against my chest. I expected resistance, I expected fire, but I did not expect to be thrown off balance.
In one swift movement, she shoved me as I hit the floor.
For a split second, I just stared up at the atmosphere, stunned.
She stood above me, breathing hard, eyes blazing. “Have you completely lost your mind?” she asked angrily.
“You pushed me?” I let out a disbelieving laugh as I rose to my feet. “You actually pushed me.” I giggled to myself.
“There are cameras everywhere!” she hissed, glancing around. “Are you trying to ruin me?” she asked bitterly.
I smirked. “Relax, I disabled them before coming here,” I said with a smirk.
Her expression shifted, not fear, not relief, but disgust.
“You are insane,” she whispered, looking at me disgustfully.
“I’m careful,” I corrected. “There’s a difference,” I said with a weak smile appearing on my face.
“You tampered with security just to corner me?” Her voice trembled, not with weakness, but with fury.
“Do you hear yourself?” I was surprised by her statement.
“I came because you were in danger and I needed to save you,” I said calmly.
I knew within me that I wasn't telling the truth. I searched and followed her down here just to see her.
I just couldn't hide anymore when she was being harassed by the drunkard, and I had to come out to help her.
“You came because you can’t stand that I’m not yours anymore,” she replied.
I stepped closer again, lowering my voice. “You were always mine,” I replied.
Her laugh was hollow. “You lost that right the day you chose power over me.”
“I never stopped wanting you,” I said slowly.
“Wanting me?” She looked at me like I was something rotten. “You don’t want me. You want control, and I'm never available for that anymore.”
“That’s not true.” I objected.
“Then what is this?” She gestured between us. “Grabbing me? Forcing me? Disabling cameras?” she asked, anger visible in her eyes.
“I knew you would run,” I said.
“Yes, Zachary. I would.” Her eyes glistened. “Because I’m done being chased by a cage disguised as a man.”
The words hit harder than her shove as they pierced deeply into my heart.
“I could make you remember,” I said quietly. “One touch, one kiss, and you will melt.”
She recoiled as I would strike her.“I would rather be seen with my father a thousand times,” she said, her voice shaking with raw emotion, “than be seen with you.”
There was silence among us for a while. Her father? I thought to myself.
She hated that man more than anyone, and she just chose him over me.
“You don’t mean that,” I said, breaking the silence as my jaw tightened.
“I do.” Her eyes locked on mine. “At least with him, I know he’s a monster. With you, you pretend to be a savior, but worse.”
My chest burned immediately when those words came from her lips.
“You compare me to him?” I growled as I looked at her, hoping for her to change her mind.
“If the shoe fits,” she replied unbothered.
I felt something dark twist inside me. “Careful,” I said, almost like a whisper.
“No,” she shot back. “You be careful.”
“You think I’m like him?” I asked, still unsure if she meant what she said.
“I think you hide your cruelty better,” she smirked.
“That’s unfair,” I replied calmly, trying to defend myself.
“No,” she whispered. “What’s unfair is that I once loved you.”
The confession froze me.
“You still do,” I said, my heart felt elevated by those words.“Don’t flatter yourself,” she said, looking sideways.
“Your pulse says otherwise,” I said, trying to prove a point to her.
“My pulse reacts to trauma too,” she counters.
Each word was a blade.
“Why are you fighting this?” I demanded. “You feel it. That connection didn’t die.” I remember as I stare at her, trying to read her mind.
“It died the night you let them humiliate me,” she said sadly.
“I didn’t…” I replied, trying to deny it.
“You did.” Her voice broke. “You stood there, watching while everything happened,” she lamented bitterly.
“I was protecting the pack!” I defended.
“And who protected me?” she yelled, looking at me.
I had no answer as I was silent, looking at her.
I could see the hurt in her eyes. She shook her head slowly. “Exactly.”
She turned and began walking away.
Each step felt like she was tearing something out of my chest. Something I could not hold.“Go then!” I barked, anger flaring to mask the ache. “Run back to your father!”
She stopped immediately when she heard my words, and she turned slowly to look at me.
A smile curved her lips. It wasn’t warm, and it wasn’t kind.
“I don’t need to,” she said softly. “I have a fiancé.”
The word slammed into me.
“A what?” I asked, trying to hide the pain in my heart.“A fiancé,” she repeated calmly as I could see the excitement in her voice, knowing her words were getting into me. “And a daughter who loves me.”
My heart skipped. “A daughter?” My voice dropped dangerously low.“Yes.” Pride flickered in her eyes. “A beautiful little girl who will never grow up thinking love looks like control.”
I swallowed hard. “You’re lying, right?”
“I’m not,” she replied calmly.
“Who is he?” I demanded, pretending not to know about it.
Livia's POV.I was seated at a table before me as I went through some files when the front door of the house slammed so hard. I trembled from the shock as I tried looking in the direction to see who was responsible for it.The atmosphere of the house shifted immediately like a wave of shock. My fingers tightened around the edge of the table as my heart began to pound. Yes, Hayden was home, and the atmosphere of the house automatically changed.I slowly stood, smoothing my dress over my hips, trying to calm the tremor in my hands and my reflection in the glass cabinet betrayed me, wide eyes, pale lips, and a woman who looked like she was preparing for battle rather than greeting her husband.Heavy footsteps echoed through the hallway, each one louder than the last, and then he appeared.Hayden stepped into the room like a storm that had finally found somewhere to break. His dark coat hung open, his tie loose, his hair slightly disheveled by the cold wind outside, but it was no anger on
Zach’s POVThe low rumble of engines rolled through the estate gates like distant thunder.I was inside when I heard the noise, and I decided to step outside.I stood on the porch with my arms folded across my chest, my jaw tight enough to crack teeth. The evening wind brushed against my skin, carrying the scent of asphalt, leather, and something else that set my wolf on edge. The black SUV slid into the driveway with irritating elegance, followed by the rest of the security vehicles trailing behind like obedient dogs.My Beta stood a few steps behind me, silent but alert. The guards around the property straightened slightly, sensing the tension hanging thick in the air.The SUV finally came to a stop, and for a moment, no one moved, but after a while, the driver’s door opened.Hayden stepped out slowly, adjusting the cuff of his suit like he had all the time in the world. That smug grin was already on his face.My fists clenched, my veins reacting as anger boiled deep in me.“Relax,”
Chapter 31Zach’s POV“He’s in the car with her?” I asked, my voice thundered across the office before I even realized I had spoken. My fist slammed down on the mahogany desk so hard the ink bottle rattled and nearly tipped over. I was so angry about getting the information about Bella's whereabouts.Across from me, my Beta stiffened from the shock of my anger and reaction.“Yes, Alpha,” he said carefully, trying to steady himself. The word Alpha sounded heavier today as I stood up slowly, my chair scraping across the marble floor. The air in the room felt too tight, too hot, like the walls were closing in. “Say that again,” I said quietly, my gaze directly on Perry. My Beta swallowed hard as he tried to repeat what he just said.“Alpha Hayden picked Luna Belle up himself. No driver, just with a few escort vehicles inside the lane.” Perry finally repeated. My jaw clenched so hard I felt it in my skull.“He is driving her,” I murmured to myself, and for a moment, there was nothing but
Hayden’s POVThe car moved smoothly along the quiet road, the low hum of the engine filling the silence between us.I sat back in the leather seat, one arm resting lazily on the door while my sharp eyes studied the woman sitting across from me, Belle. She looked far too comfortable and too confident as her fingers rested lightly over her stomach, and the faint smile on her lips carried the smugness of someone who believed she held all the cards. My jaw tightened slightly as I looked at her. She thinks the pregnancy makes her untouchable and that was exactly the problem.I had tolerated her games before, I had watched her schemes, listened to her provocations, and let many things slide because they amused me.But the moment she started questioning my judgment, questioning my choice of mate, she had crossed a line as I don't like being challenged, especially not by someone who believed she could corner me.I tilted my head slightly, studying her as the passing streetlights flickered acr
Belle’s POVThe car engine was still running, but it hadn’t moved an inch for almost three minutes as horns blared behind us.Drivers shouted, some even slammed their hands against a steering wheel so hard the sound echoed through the street, but it seemed none of us cared about it, not even a little. In all of these, I sat comfortably in the passenger seat, one hand resting on my swollen stomach, my fingers slowly brushing over the fabric of my dress like I was petting something precious. Something powerful, something dangerous, because this child was powerful and I knew it.I tilted my head slightly, watching Hayden from the corner of my eye. His hands were gripping the steering wheel so tightly his knuckles had turned white. His jaw was locked, and his breathing was sharp. He looked like a man trying very hard not to explode, and this made me almost smile.“Good, let him burn,” I murmured to myself.Behind us, I could clearly see the convoy of black SUVs in the side mirror, my body
Belle’s POVThe moment Hayden offered to drive me home, I knew exactly what I was doing, even as I tried rejecting his offer at first. As the journey continued, I enjoyed every second of it.The car glided through the quiet road that led away from the gathering hall. The night was cool, the wind brushing softly against the tinted windows, but inside the car the atmosphere was thick, heavy, and dangerous.I leaned back into the leather seat, crossing my legs slowly as I rubbed my belly softly. My eyes slid toward Hayden as he drove. He looked focused on the road, one hand resting casually on the steering wheel, the other on the gear shift. His jaw was tight, his posture straight, every bit the composed Alpha he was known to be.But I saw beyond that all that. I saw the curiosity, the suspicion, and I loved it.“Good,” I thought to myself, waiting for the right time to act. You can call it a strike if you so wish.I allowed the tension to grow because I had no intention of letting the
