Zachary POV

There was silence. I looked at her, waiting for an answer as she hesitated for a while.

“The man who chose me without hesitation.”

I scoffed. She replied happily, even though I could feel something strange in her statement.

“You expect me to believe you are happy?” I asked as I watched her closely.

“I don’t care what you believe,” she snapped.

“You are just trying to hurt me,” I said calmly.

“And you deserve it,” she replied without hesitation.

The air thickened as the atmosphere felt strange.

“You think this man can give you what I could?” I asked coldly.

“He already has,” she replied almost immediately.

“And what’s that?” I pressed forward.

“Peace,” she replied calmly.

The word cut deeper than anything else.

“You will get bored,” I muttered. “You crave fire.”

“I crave safety,” she replied.

“You used to crave me,” I said.

“I used to mistake chaos for passion,” she said coldly.

I stepped closer again, lowering my voice. “You still look at me.”

“And I see everything I escaped,” she defended without emotion attached.

“Don’t lie to yourself.” I feel sad.

“I’m not the one lying,” she said.

“Then why are you shaking?” I challenged myself as I watched her closely.

“I’m not shaking because I want you,” she snapped. “I’m shaking because you remind me of every night I felt small, sad, and troubled.”

“You treated me like a slave, trash, and like I was worthless.”

“That’s not fair!” I said calmly as I felt bad listening to her. “I never meant any of that.”

“Neither was loving you fair,” she replied calmly. “You meant everything you did to me.”

My hands curled into fists. “If I had known you would end up throwing my sacrifice in my face, I wouldn’t have saved you,” I said, getting fed up with her attitude.

She went still. “Saved me?” she repeated softly.

“Yes, I did save you,” I repeated.

She laughed bitterly. “You didn’t save me. You claimed me.”

“I fought for you!” I reminded her immediately.

“You fought to own me,” she countered.

“That’s not true!” I defended as we both looked at each other.

“It is,” she said, stepping closer now, her eyes blazing. “And do you know what I saw at that moment? When you grabbed that drunk man by the collar?”

“What are you talking about?” I was confused about what she was trying to say.

“I saw you,” she replied.

My stomach tightened. “The same rage. The same entitlement. The same belief that you could do whatever you wanted,” she poured out coldly.

“That man hurt you!” I looked at her.

“And you think you didn’t? You think you are a saint?” she expressed her displeasure.

Her words landed like thunder as they pierced my heart deeply.

“I am nothing like him,” I growled, defending myself. “I only came to protect you.”

“You are,” she whispered. “Different face, different power, but same behavior,” she alleged.

The accusation hung between us, and the atmosphere seemed tense.

“I would never degrade you,” I said quietly.

“You already did,” she said calmly as I could see the hurt in her face.

“I loved you,” I confessed even before I could hold myself.

She was silent for a while, observing me critically. “You loved possessing me.”

“I would have given you the world!” I said emotionally.

“I never asked for the world!” she cried. “I asked for you, but you never cared.”

There was silence, heavy and suffocating.

“And you chose something else,” she finished.

My voice dropped to a near whisper. “If you walk away now, there’s no coming back,” I said, my voice low but full of fury.

“There was no coming back the day you let me fall,” she said.

“You are making a mistake,” I murmured, almost like a whisper.

“No,” she said gently. “I already made it once. I won’t repeat it.”

“You think this fiancé will protect you from me?” I said, taking a deep breath. You belong to me, and I'm going to get you back because I'm the only one who can protect you,” I said confidently.

Her gaze hardened. “I don’t need protection from you, anyone, because I can do it.”

“You sound confident,” I said.

“I am,” she admitted.

“You are not afraid?” I asked.

“Not of you,” she said without thinking twice.

The words stung more than hatred would have.

“Go back to your nagging wife,” she added coolly. “Maybe she will still believe your lies.”

“Don’t speak about Bella,” I said, almost like a warning.

“Why?” She challenged me. “Does the truth hurt?”

“You don’t know what you are talking about,” I said, trying to hide my feelings.

“I know enough,” she said immediately without taking her gaze from me.

“Bella is my responsibility,” I said calmly.

“And I was your weakness,” she replied, almost like a whisper.

“No,” I said firmly. “You were my strength,” I said, trying to convince her.

“Then you should have fought harder,” she said silently.

Her eyes softened for just a second, and in that second, I saw it. Pain buried deep.

“You don’t get to want me now,” she whispered. “Not after everything.”

“I never stopped,” I said slowly.

“You should have because it's late already.”

“Livia,” I called silently.

“Goodbye, Zachary,” Livia said as she turned again to leave.

This time, I didn’t call her back; I stood as I watched her walk away. Watching every one of her steps coldly.

Every step felt like a verdict, a pain, and it seemed a part of me was leaving me entirely.

She didn’t look back, and for the first time in my life, I wasn’t sure if I had truly lost her or if she had finally escaped me.

Different thoughts began running through my mind, from the words she said, by choosing her father over

me, and also comparing me to the drunkard. Saying I'm not different from him.

I looked at her as her shadows faded away, my legs feeling too heavy to take a step.

  • Her Cold-Hearted Alpha’s Regret   33

Livia's POV.I was seated at a table before me as I went through some files when the front door of the house slammed so hard. I trembled from the shock as I tried looking in the direction to see who was responsible for it.The atmosphere of the house shifted immediately like a wave of shock. My fingers tightened around the edge of the table as my heart began to pound. Yes, Hayden was home, and the atmosphere of the house automatically changed.I slowly stood, smoothing my dress over my hips, trying to calm the tremor in my hands and my reflection in the glass cabinet betrayed me, wide eyes, pale lips, and a woman who looked like she was preparing for battle rather than greeting her husband.Heavy footsteps echoed through the hallway, each one louder than the last, and then he appeared.Hayden stepped into the room like a storm that had finally found somewhere to break. His dark coat hung open, his tie loose, his hair slightly disheveled by the cold wind outside, but it was no anger on

  • Her Cold-Hearted Alpha’s Regret   32

Zach’s POVThe low rumble of engines rolled through the estate gates like distant thunder.I was inside when I heard the noise, and I decided to step outside.I stood on the porch with my arms folded across my chest, my jaw tight enough to crack teeth. The evening wind brushed against my skin, carrying the scent of asphalt, leather, and something else that set my wolf on edge. The black SUV slid into the driveway with irritating elegance, followed by the rest of the security vehicles trailing behind like obedient dogs.My Beta stood a few steps behind me, silent but alert. The guards around the property straightened slightly, sensing the tension hanging thick in the air.The SUV finally came to a stop, and for a moment, no one moved, but after a while, the driver’s door opened.Hayden stepped out slowly, adjusting the cuff of his suit like he had all the time in the world. That smug grin was already on his face.My fists clenched, my veins reacting as anger boiled deep in me.“Relax,”

Chapter 31Zach’s POV“He’s in the car with her?” I asked, my voice thundered across the office before I even realized I had spoken. My fist slammed down on the mahogany desk so hard the ink bottle rattled and nearly tipped over. I was so angry about getting the information about Bella's whereabouts.Across from me, my Beta stiffened from the shock of my anger and reaction.“Yes, Alpha,” he said carefully, trying to steady himself. The word Alpha sounded heavier today as I stood up slowly, my chair scraping across the marble floor. The air in the room felt too tight, too hot, like the walls were closing in. “Say that again,” I said quietly, my gaze directly on Perry. My Beta swallowed hard as he tried to repeat what he just said.“Alpha Hayden picked Luna Belle up himself. No driver, just with a few escort vehicles inside the lane.” Perry finally repeated. My jaw clenched so hard I felt it in my skull.“He is driving her,” I murmured to myself, and for a moment, there was nothing but

  • Her Cold-Hearted Alpha’s Regret   30

Hayden’s POVThe car moved smoothly along the quiet road, the low hum of the engine filling the silence between us.I sat back in the leather seat, one arm resting lazily on the door while my sharp eyes studied the woman sitting across from me, Belle. She looked far too comfortable and too confident as her fingers rested lightly over her stomach, and the faint smile on her lips carried the smugness of someone who believed she held all the cards. My jaw tightened slightly as I looked at her. She thinks the pregnancy makes her untouchable and that was exactly the problem.I had tolerated her games before, I had watched her schemes, listened to her provocations, and let many things slide because they amused me.But the moment she started questioning my judgment, questioning my choice of mate, she had crossed a line as I don't like being challenged, especially not by someone who believed she could corner me.I tilted my head slightly, studying her as the passing streetlights flickered acr

  • Her Cold-Hearted Alpha’s Regret   29

Belle’s POVThe car engine was still running, but it hadn’t moved an inch for almost three minutes as horns blared behind us.Drivers shouted, some even slammed their hands against a steering wheel so hard the sound echoed through the street, but it seemed none of us cared about it, not even a little. In all of these, I sat comfortably in the passenger seat, one hand resting on my swollen stomach, my fingers slowly brushing over the fabric of my dress like I was petting something precious. Something powerful, something dangerous, because this child was powerful and I knew it.I tilted my head slightly, watching Hayden from the corner of my eye. His hands were gripping the steering wheel so tightly his knuckles had turned white. His jaw was locked, and his breathing was sharp. He looked like a man trying very hard not to explode, and this made me almost smile.“Good, let him burn,” I murmured to myself.Behind us, I could clearly see the convoy of black SUVs in the side mirror, my body

  • Her Cold-Hearted Alpha’s Regret   28

Belle’s POVThe moment Hayden offered to drive me home, I knew exactly what I was doing, even as I tried rejecting his offer at first. As the journey continued, I enjoyed every second of it.The car glided through the quiet road that led away from the gathering hall. The night was cool, the wind brushing softly against the tinted windows, but inside the car the atmosphere was thick, heavy, and dangerous.I leaned back into the leather seat, crossing my legs slowly as I rubbed my belly softly. My eyes slid toward Hayden as he drove. He looked focused on the road, one hand resting casually on the steering wheel, the other on the gear shift. His jaw was tight, his posture straight, every bit the composed Alpha he was known to be.But I saw beyond that all that. I saw the curiosity, the suspicion, and I loved it.“Good,” I thought to myself, waiting for the right time to act. You can call it a strike if you so wish.I allowed the tension to grow because I had no intention of letting the
