Lumi’s POV

“Lumi… if you wanted this dress for your engagement so badly, you could’ve at least lost some weight.”

Wren’s voice came from behind me as her fingers worked carefully at the zipper of my dress. For a moment, I said nothing. I just stared at my reflection.

The dress was beautiful.

White champagne material, clinging to my body in a way that felt both elegant… and exposing. It shined under the warm glow of the bedroom lights, tender and refined—everything I thought I wanted for a night like this.

My engagement party.

A slow, quiet smile touched my lips, but it didn’t quite reach my eyes.

“You didn’t have to be so blunt about it,” I said softly. “Maybe I should go for another dress.”

Behind me, Wren froze. The zipper stopped moving.

“…Oh.”

That single word carried something different this time. There’s no teasing, just regret.

“I didn’t mean it like that,” she said quickly, her voice softer now. “God, Lumi—I talk too much sometimes.”

I watched her through the mirror.

Her brows had pulled together slightly, her hands hovering uncertainly at my back like she didn’t know whether to continue or step away.

“I’m sorry,” she added, more gently this time. “It actually looks really good on you. I just—my mouth runs before my brain catches up.”

Something in my chest loosened. That was Wren, too honest sometimes, but never cruel.

I let out a small breath.

“It’s fine,” I said. “I know how you are.”

She gave a small, sheepish smile. “Unfortunately.”

That pulled a quiet laugh from me.

“I was just joking earlier,” she added, trying to lighten the moment. “Even I can’t stay away from Popeyes chicken.”

I shook my head, the tension easing just a little.

“You and that chicken…”

“Don’t judge me,” she said quickly, nudging my arm lightly. “We all have weaknesses.”

“And yours is fried and spicy.”

“And proud.”

I smiled, turning slightly to look at her properly. Wren stood there in her usual chaotic state, measuring tape around her neck, hair tied up carelessly, a pencil tucked behind her ear.

A mess.

But a familiar one, a comforting one. She had always been that way, ever since we were kids. After my mom died, everything in my world had shifted. Everything except Wren, she stayed and filled spaces I didn’t even realize were empty.

Sometimes I caught myself wondering what life would’ve been like without a cousin sister like her. Then I stopped, because I didn’t want to know.

“I think I’ll try something else,” I said, reaching for the zipper.

“Yeah,” she nodded quickly. “Only if you want to. Not because of what I said.”

I glanced at her. “I know.”

And I did.

I slipped out of the dress and moved toward my wardrobe, flipping through the hangers slowly. My weight gain hadn’t been sudden. Grief had played its part, so had stress, so had life. But I was working on it for myself. Not because anyone asked me to.

Because I wanted to feel good in my own skin again. And honestly…Caius had never made me feel like I wasn’t. A small smile curved my lips at the thought of him.

My fiancé.

He loved my body, every part of its. The softness, the curves. Even the parts I used to avoid looking at. Sometimes he would pull me close, his hands warm and sure against my waist, his voice low and certain in my ear.

“You’re the sexiest woman in the world.”

And the way he said it…like it wasn’t even up for debate. That had always been enough for me. More than enough.

I pulled out another dress, this one darker and simpler. More forgiving. I slipped into it quickly and turned back toward the mirror. It fit easily.

Wren circled me slowly, not like a critic—but like someone making sure I felt good.

She nodded. “This one feels like you,” she said softly.

I met her eyes in the mirror. “Yeah,” I said. “It does.”

I quickly changed back to a normal outfit and grabbed my bag from the chair. I checked my phone, nothing yet. That was unusual, Caius usually texted by now.

I pushed the thought aside. He was probably busy. It was our engagement party tonight.

“I’m heading out,” I said.

Wren leaned lightly against the wall. “Are you going to be home late?”

“Yeah,” I replied. “I’m going to stop by Clover’s first.”

She nodded. “Okay. She’s probably already excited.”

“She’s been texting me all day.”

“I’m not surprised,” Wren smiled. “Just don’t let her distract you too much.”

Then her expression softened slightly. “And Lumi…”

I paused.

“Take your time, but don’t be late tonight.”

I smiled faintly. “I won’t.”

“You better not.”

“I won’t.”

She laughed softly. “Alright. Bye. And text me when you get there.”

“I will.”

.

The evening air brushed me gently as I stepped outside. I got into my car, adjusting my dress before starting the engine. For a moment, I just sat there. Quiet and still, letting everything settle.

I can’t believe it’s finally happening tonight.

A soft nervous excitement fluttered in my chest. I reached for my phone and opened the camera. The lighting was good. I snapped a quick mirror selfie from earlier and sent it to Caius.

Me:

Do I pass the fiancé test?

My phone buzzed almost instantly.

Caius:

Pass? You just broke the test.

A small laugh escaped me.

Caius:

You look incredible.

Actually… no. You look dangerous.

Warmth spread through my chest.

Me:

Dangerous?

Caius:

Yeah. Like I won’t survive tonight without touching you.

I shook my head, smiling.

Me:

Behave.

Caius:

No promises.

My heart softened. This felt right, easy and safe. Like everything was exactly where it was supposed to be.

Then my phone buzzed again. Another message.

Caius:

Hey baby…

I glanced at the screen.

Caius:

You said you were going to drop by Clover’s first. Let me know when you’re on your way.

My fingers stilled.

A small frown formed on my face. I hadn’t told him that yet. My chest tightened slightly. I stared at the message, then slowly…another thought crept in.

If I hadn’t told him…then how did he know?

  • Her Craving, His Brother    Chapter 20: Don’t get comfortable

Lumi’s POVWe’re still outside, still too close. And I’m still standing by the car door like I didn’t just agree to this. The night air feels cooler now, but it doesn’t help. If anything, it makes everything sharper. The silence between us, the space that isn’t really space, the fact that I can feel him there without even looking.Clover leans closer to me, her voice dropping into a whisper that isn’t nearly as small as she thinks it is. “Please don’t start an attitude now. We need to get home alive.”I don’t look at her. I keep my eyes forward, fixed somewhere ahead like that will ground me.“I’m not starting anything.” It comes out low, flat even. A lie, because that irritation is still sitting right under my skin. That unfinished conversation from earlier is still replaying in my head like it didn’t end properly. Before I can say anything else, he moves. He just steps forward, opens the driver’s door like it’s already decided, and gets in. That alone, that quiet assumption, I fe

  • Her Craving, His Brother    Chapter 19: Not him

Briggs’ POVI step back into the club. The noise hits immediately, music, voices, but I don’t register any of it properly. Because she’s not there. My eyes move across the room once, twice.Bar, dance floor, entrance. Nothing. My jaw tightens slightly.“She wouldn’t just—”I stop the thought, because she would. Before I can move further, Matteo steps into my path.“Everything okay?” His tone is neutral, professional.“Yeah,” I say.He nods, but doesn’t move immediately.“There’s an issue in VIP three,” he adds. “One of the guests is refusing to leave.”I glance once more across the room, still nothing. My attention splits, part of me already heading toward the exit. The other, dealing with this.I exhale slowly. “Handle it.”“We tried.”I look at him, that’s nough. “Fine.”I move past him without another word. The situation doesn’t take long. A man who thinks money gives him authority. A raised voice, I don’t raise mine. By the time I’m done, he’s leaving. And I’m already walking away

  • Her Craving, His Brother    Chapter 18: So he didn’t like my approach?

Lumi’s POVI walk out of the room faster than I should. My heels hit the floor harder than usual, each step sharp, controlled, like I’m trying to shake something off. It doesn’t work, because it’s still there. That feeling, that tight, irritating, confusing pull sitting right in my chest. And the worst part? I don’t even know what I’m supposed to call it.Annoyance? Embarrassment? Frustration? All of it. None of it.I exhale sharply as I step back into the main club area. The noise hits me immediately, music, voices, movement, but it all feels… distant. Muted even.Like I’m not fully back yet. I spot Clover instantly, still at the bar. Her head snaps toward me the second she sees me. And the look on her face? Pure chaos. She straightens immediately, eyes wide.“WHY are you walking like that??” she blurts out, loud enough that someone beside her glances over. “What happened??”I blink at her.“…What do you mean how am I walking?”She gestures wildly at me.“That! That thing you’re doi

  • Her Craving, His Brother    Chapter 17: She chose me

Briggs’ POVI don’t look back. There’s a difference between someone following because they’re unsure… and someone following because they’ve decided. The rhythm of her steps is steady, she’s coming. For me.The thought lands heavier than it should. I don’t react to it outwardly, but I register it. Most people hesitate at this point. She closed the distance like she’d already made peace with whatever this leads to.I walk through the club without breaking pace. Lights flicker across the floor, music vibrates through the walls, bodies shift and collide around me, but none of it matters. I’m aware of everything. And still focused on one thing, her.I push open the door to one of the private lounges. Not the rooms people assume, or the ones meant for indulgence or cheap fantasies. This one is different, clean and minimal. A space where nothing distracts you from what’s in front of you. I step inside. The noise from the club dulls instantly as the door begins to close behind us. I don’t t

  • Her Craving, His Brother    Chapter 16: Then You.

Lumi’s POVThe music is loud, bodies are moving, lights are shifting. But somehow, none of that touches me.It’s just him, standing there, waiting. He doesn’t move, that’s the first thing that annoys me. He doesn’t meet me halfway, step forward or even pretend to close the distance. He just watches me come to him, like he expected it. That alone pushes something in me. I’m so close to him now, close enough to feel the heat of his body. Not touching, but close enough that one wrong move would change that. For a second, nothing. Just silence. Then, his voice, low and calm. “You walked over.”I tilt my head slightly, folding my arms.“You didn’t,” I shot back. A small pause. Then I added, just to push him:“Was thinking maybe you’re scared to make a move on big mama.”There it is, a reaction. Small, but real. His eyes flicker, just for a second. Then, the corner of his mouth lifts. Not a full smile, not even close, but small. A smirk. And something about that, feels like approval. Like

  • Her Craving, His Brother    Chapter 15: Something is off

Clover’s POVSomething is off. But before that, I’m actually looking for someone. My eyes move across the room, scanning faces, bodies, stage lights, shadows, anywhere a familiar figure might pop out.Cameroon, that idiot.I lean forward slightly, squinting toward the dancers gathering near the stage. Nope, not there. I check the VIP section, bar, and entrance. Still nothing.“…You better not have stood me up,” I mutter under my breath.Because this whole night? This entire chaotic, unnecessary, slightly traumatic night? Was partly because of him.I sit back, crossing my legs, scanning again. Nothing.“Wow,” I sigh quietly. “So he’s not even one of the dancers?”That’s… disappointing. Annoying even. I pick up my drink, taking a slow sip, still glancing around. Maybe he’s late or still backstage. Maybe….I stop.My attention drifts from the stage to the person sitting right next to me, Lumi. And just like that, Cameroon is no longer the problem. She is.“She’s acting calm… but she’s
