LOGIN“Stop kidding around Louis,” I said watching him walk behind the computer to find where the items were stored, his long fingers gliding over the keyboard with ease as his violet eyes studied the screen.
“Who says I’m kidding?” He said glancing at me over his computer screen his eyes twinkling playfully. I circled around the counter he stood and put my hands on my hips, my eyebrow raised.
“Louis, someday someone will come down here and think you’re serious and then we’ll both be in trouble.” I all but shouted at him, I couldn’t lose this job. I had bills to keep up with and a small apartment where they charged to much for the rent that I had finally taken the time to decorate. I didn’t want to lose those small comforts, I had worked too hard to be able to claim my independence.
“Relax Amelia, no one comes down here.” He said in a tone that made my blood boil, I knew it was meant to soothe me but it didn’t.
“They might and Louis you’re playing will get us in trouble, not us. Me, it will get me in trouble, you have job security.” I said knowing that he wasn’t replaceable like me, without him they wouldn’t be able to find anything in this overcrowded basement storage. Anyone could do my job, answering phones, filing paperwork, reminding Mr. Blackwell of his schedule, and fixing his coffee wasn’t that hard.
“They won’t get rid of you, trust me.” He smirked as clicked the mouse and I looked down at his fingers, I had never seen a man with such well kept hands. His nails were blunt and shined in the dim basement overhead lights, I knew that he liked to go get manicures. His hands were smooth and soft and for a moment I wondered what they would feel like trailing across my body, my hands bound above my head. I shivered and shook my head, what was wrong with me today?
It had obviously been too long, that was the only explanation I could come up with for my crazy libido. Louis looked up at me with a raised eyebrow and I could feel my cheeks darkening, the twinkle in his eyes made me feel like somehow he knew where my thoughts had taken me. He paused his search and undid the button on his slate gray jacket to pull out a thin wallet.
“Why don’t you go and get us coffee, this will take a little while.” He said holding out a black credit card to me, I grasped the cool plastic in my hand. This was as close as I would ever get to having a black card, my credit would never be good enough for one of these bad boys.
“Same as always?” I asked and he nodded a slow smile spreading across his face and the familiar light returning.
“You know my coffee order, you do love.” He said in an over dramatic teasing tone as he touched his chest.
“Just for that, I’m getting you a black coffee.” I said spinning on my heels and heading towards the elevator. “And I’m spitting in it.” I tossed over my shoulder, the sound of his husky laughter following me as I went, causing me to shiver as something within me tightened again.
I knew it wasn’t anxiety this time and I frowned. I didn’t need these feelings, tonight when I got home I’d take care of this, and my libido would hopefully go back to normal.
I stepped into the elevator and pressed the button to take me to the lobby, as I watched the doors close I ran my hand through my auburn hair and let out a sigh. Today was going to be a long day to get through and I hoped Mr. Blackwell wouldn’t ask me to stay late. On a normal day when my hormones weren’t making me itch for a spanking I wouldn’t mind staying late.
It seemed like everyone was getting spanked but me, at least the overtime would be good if he did ask me to stay.
The doors chimed open and I quickly walked through the lobby, the glass windows letting in the bright sunlight. I was glad today was a nice day, so I wouldn’t have to run upstairs to get my sweater.
I stepped onto the sidewalk and let out a long deep breath, filling my lungs with the crisp unusually warm autumn air, feeling it blow through my air and swirl around me. I always felt better outside in the sunshine.
I turned and weaved my way through throngs of people, this was one of the things I love about living in the city. It never slept, I could come out here late at night, during one of my bouts of insomnia or early in the morning and there would always be people busily walking past me.
It gave me a small comfort to know that I wasn’t alone, no matter how alone I felt.
The walk to the coffee shop wasn’t long enough for me and I found myself standing at the doors to the small shop that both Louis and I liked to frequent, the smells of a dark roast blend filling my nose, making my mouth water at the promise of a delicious boost of dark goodness.
I walked in it was a quiet, modern little shop that always had a bit of line. When Louis had brought me here I was shocked at the quality of the coffee and could understand why he didn’t like the office coffee.
Their mochas were like heaven in a cup, I patiently waited my turn scrolling through my social media account on my phone. When I got to the register I placed our drink orders and stepped off to the side, tucking my phone and Louis’ card back into the slim pockets of my black pencil skirt.
My name was called and I accepted our drinks, excitedly I made my way back to the office ready to enjoy my mocha while listening to Louis talk about the items he would be retrieving if he didn’t already have them ready and waiting for my arrival.
PrologueVega"If you wish to one day, take over the council. You will need a mate." Adner said in his deep voice. I clenched my teeth together. How could my father not see that there was no need for me to take a mate? I was stronger without those emotional ties. I’d seen what it had done to my mother, being tied to Adner. My father was a great man, a cruel leader. I didn’t want that for myself.“Marcus’ flock is flourishing, he would make a good mate for you.” My father said, casting a glance my way as I tried to school my features. Looking over to Izar, he gave me a slight nod. I could always trust him, he had been my second for as long as I could remember and if he weren’t gay, he would have made a good mate. Sadly, there are some things you can’t fake. Not even for power’s sake. Glancing over at Nash, I rolled my eyes, pushing my blonde curls over my shoulder. His eyes glowed yellow at the mention of Marcus. He’d never gotten over not killing his previous plaything. “I could t
Chapter Eighty-OneMarcus I landed with a loud thud, my clawed talons sinking into the dirt. The sharp snap of twigs and branches breaking under my feet. I couldn’t help the fear that made my heart beat faster in my chest, I didn’t know what would happen. The knowledge that Amelia and Louis would be safe gave me comfort. I knew that Sin cared for Louis, in his own way. It was hard for him not to with their past.It was obvious how the devil felt about Amelia. When I had introduced them, I didn’t know that her succubus would call to him. That he would end up tying himself to us, because of her. Rolling my shoulders, the change took hold of me as I could hear it doing to the members of my flock. The ones that had chosen to come with me, most had stayed with the children and I couldn’t blame them for that. Letting out a deep sigh, I looked up at the darkening sky, taking in the burnt orange and the deep purples. I wanted kids; I wanted children that looked like us. A girl
Chapter EightyMarcus was finishing up talking with the flock when we came into the house. The living room although missing a roof was mostly put together with the rubble and broken furniture pushed to the side. Plans were hastily made for tonight and what might. The rest of the day was spent with the four of us in bed.The way that Marcus had held me was tender, almost as if he were trying to memorize everything about me. The way that he had touched Sin and Louis had filled me with a sad longing. I wanted to stay in bed, in this moment with them. When it had become too much I closed my eyes, letting sleep take me away for a short time. When I awoke Marcus sat in the circle in the corner with Sin. Both men were naked facing each other. The feel of Sin’s magic leapt over my skin, making me shiver. I watched him trace the ruins on Marcus’ body, watching them glow to life under his slowly moving fingers.Marcus pulled Sin closer as the wave of magic hung thick in the air and I felt it
Chapter Seventy-Nine The drive home was a strange one for me. Excitement filled me at meeting Abby and the knowledge that I had not just one but two sisters. The tension that seeped from Marcus though was overwhelming. It made my throat tighten with dread, I couldn’t help but wonder if it was what we had talked about with Doc?That I wasn’t ready for motherhood, that I didn’t know if I would ever be ready to be a mother. Maybe a really cool aunt?I could do that, be the fun one that picked them up and took the little ones on adventures. The option to return them once those adventures were over sounded like a good plan to me.Marcus pulled into the driveway and I let out a gasp. Part of the roof and most of the windows of the living room were gone, almost as if it had exploded. I looked over at Marcus and he gripped the steering wheel, his knuckles white as he pressed his lips together, his bod tense. “I’m going to talk to the council.”“Marcus, please.”“No, I won’t trade your lif
Chapter Seventy-Eight Cuts and scraps littered Louis' body. I took in a deep breath, looking at the sun playing off of his bare flesh as we stepped outside of the pack house. The medicine Doc had given me already helping with my pounding head, making it easier to think. Louis stood talking to a redheaded woman, when she turned to look back at us I let out a gasp, her lips slipped into a surprised o. The others hadn’t been wrong when they said she and I looked alike.Louis smiled when he saw me, “Amelia, I was just talking to Abby.” He said and my attention was pulled back to him.“You’re hurt.” I whispered as he walked closer, he slipped an arm around my waist. Pulling me in for a tight hug that I knew was meant to reassure himself that I was okay. Someone had given him a pair of shorts and I was glad my mate wasn’t exposed to my sister.“Just some flesh wounds.” He said with a soft smile that made my heart flutter, he let go of me and moved to talk with Marcus.“You should
Chapter Seventy-Seven “Wait, that’s not Abby.” The soft feminine voice said as Sin handed me to Marcus. “This is my mate Amelia.” Marcus said as he strode forward. “That’s a demon, call Sam and Stolas.” The woman snarled and I peeked her way as she pushed blonde hair out of her eyes.“Close your eyes Amelia, I’ve got you.” Marcus ordered and I let my eyes slip closed as he walked quickly into the pack house.“You stay here.” I heard the woman snap, stopping Sin at the door.“Oh, come on. I know both of Stolas and Sam. They won’t care if I’m here and neither should your alpha. Amelia is my primary concern, not a standoff with you.” Sin bit out, his voice fading away Marcus followed the man with the southern accent. “She looks so much like my mate.” He said and I heard him hold open the door for Marcus.“I think we may have found your siblings,” Marcus said as he sat me down onto a paper-covered table and I looked around. It looked like a standard doctor’s office. Pos
