When my wife's first love was injured in a car accident and urgently needed a kidney transplant, she gave me an ultimatum. If I refused to donate my kidney, she said she would take our daughter and die alongside him the very next day. Crying, she begged. "Can you stop being so selfish? It's only one kidney. "It's not like you'll die! Are you really going to force me and your daughter to our deaths?" With a bitter smile, I agreed. What she didn't know was that our daughter had already died in the very same car accident that injured her beloved first love. And I was suffering from end-stage kidney failure. Once I went through with the surgery, I wouldn't be far behind from death either. Since she was willing to sacrifice everything for the man she loved, then I would give her exactly what she wanted. I would make her the person responsible for both my death and our daughter's so she would have to live with that regret for the rest of her life.

Chapter 1

After I died, I drifted in a daze beside Olivia Dane.

Wearing a white dress and holding a bouquet of roses, she stepped forward and embraced her lover, Tucker Pritchett, as soon as the doctor pushed open the operating room doors.

Their eyes met, as though they had crossed the boundary between life and death.

It was a touching scene.

If Olivia weren't my wife, I probably would have thought so too.

Forcing a weak smile, Tucker asked Olivia with feigned concern, "Liam doesn't like me. You made him donate a kidney to me. Do you think he'll be angry?"

A trace of annoyance flashed through Olivia's eyes.

With a cold snort, she said, "It's just one kidney. It's not like I asked him to die. What's there for him to be angry about?

"Usually, I can overlook his jealousy, but when you were dying, he still refused to save you. I had to threaten him with my life and Ava's before he finally agreed.

"He's such an egoist, so selfish and heartless. He really drives me crazy..."

A hint of satisfaction appeared on Tucker's face.

Gently kissing Olivia's brow, he said, "Forget about that annoying guy. Can you come to my house tonight?"

Floating in midair, I watched as hesitation briefly flashed across Olivia's face before eventually turning into a shy blush.

"I've had enough of Liam and that idiot Ava. Let them do whatever they want. I'll stay at your place for the next few days and take care of you..."

I opened my mouth weakly, but my dull ghostly thoughts left me unable to remember what I wanted to say.

It wasn't until Olivia happily completed Tucker's discharge paperwork that I finally remembered.

I wanted to tell her that her daughter was dead, killed at the scene of the car accident.

I was dead too, in a hospital room not far from hers.

A few days earlier, Tucker had been involved in a street-racing accident.

Olivia immediately lost control. Holding a knife to her own throat, she cried as she said to me, "Liam, Tucker needs a kidney. Give him yours!

"Don't be so selfish! If you don't agree... I'll take Ava with me and die!"

She didn't know that our daughter was already dead from Tucker's car accident.

Olivia only cared about her first love, whose life was hanging by a thread. Yet, she paid no attention to the young life that had been lost in that same accident.

At the time, I had already been diagnosed with end-stage kidney failure. When I heard her words, my whole body trembled.

With a bitter smile, I said, "Okay."

Since I didn't have much longer to live anyway, I might as well give my life to the man she loved.

I really wanted to see her expression when she found out that she and Tucker were responsible for Ava's death and mine.

I never came off the operating table.

Overjoyed that her first love had finally been saved, Olivia happily went home with Tucker.

Then the hospital called her.

"Ms. Dane, your husband suffered a severe postoperative reaction. His heart has stopped..."

Without a second thought, Olivia sneered into the phone.

"Liam asked you to pretend to be a doctor, didn't he?

"Doesn't he have anything better to do? Does he think a stunt like this will get my attention?

"Tell him that if he has this much free time, he'd be better off helping Ava with her schoolwork. These two idiots have nothing better to do than bother me all day.

"Tucker needs care. I don't have time for him."

With that, she hung up without hesitation.

I could already imagine the doctor's shock and confusion, because my body was lying plainly in the hospital morgue.

If Olivia had gone to take a look, she would have known everything.

However, because all she could see was Tucker, she assumed everything was just another act.

I couldn't help but laugh until tears streamed from my eyes.

'Oh, Olivia, Olivia…

'You always thought you were so smart.

'Now, more than ever, I'm looking forward to seeing the expression on your face when you finally see my coffin.'
