9. Just him...

"What?!" Diane hissed, eyes blazing.

Sasha inhaled calmly, watching the older woman unfold. "That's it mom" she said.

"What an insect she is! Not dying. Not disappearing" she heaved. "Choosing now of all times to appear".

"Maybe..." Sasha said standing, her face shifting to something sad and aggrieved. "Maybe it's not Lucien and I after all. We are not fated together mom"

Diane scoffed. "What do mean by that? She walked to Sasha and held her hands, squeezing it gently. "I won't allow that. It's you or no one for my Lucien. Do you hear me?"

"Mom..." Sasha teared up, her voice slightly shaken.

"You have me behind you. Just go and prepare for the engagement party" Diane pressed.

"Mom, you know Dahlia is---" Sasha tried to refuse.

"Stop it" Diane cut. "Unless you don't want to marry Lucien"

"No mom, I want to marry Lucien. I really love him!" she sobbed.

"Then show it. Love makes people do things. Show me what your own love can do. Or I will bring someone else who will" D

    31. Glances, Gold and Glasses...The dinner was meant to mark a new beginning. But instead, it gathered too many unfinished things in one room. The venue sat high above the city, glass walls holding in soft gold lights and quiet power. Executives from DAH Global mingled with members of the Voss Empire, conversations polished, smiles rehearsed. Low music floated through the room, glasses clinking softly. This wasn't a celebration meant for noise. It was curated. Measured. Power dressed as elegance. Lucien stepped in first. Sasha followed at his side, fingers looped confidently through his arm. She wore satisfaction like a perfume— light, expensive, unmistakable. Damien and Adrian came just behind them. "You look very on brand tonight Sasha" Adrian said. Sasha gave a light, careful laugh. "I will take that as a compliment".Damien didn't look at her. He adjusted his cufflinks instead, gaze already scanning the room, assessing faces, exits, intent. If Sasha noticed, she didn't co

  • Her Exodus, His Regret.    30. At His side...

    30. At His side...Next Morning. The conference room at Nine Lives Hotel hummed with quiet precision. Glass walls. Soft lights. A long polished table reflecting the faces that knew how to smile for investors and cameras alike. Mr Fisher sat at the head, relaxed, satisfied. The proposal lay before him calmly. This was his win. His vision coming to life. Dahlia and Lucien sat opposite each other. Close enough to feel each other's presence. Far enough to pretend it didn't matter. Mr Fisher clasped his hands together. "I must say", he began, "this collaboration is exactly what this project needs". He caught their gazes, one after another. "Two strong brands. Two capable leaders. Stability and vision in one room. Lucien straightened his jacket, crushing the very last urge to look at the woman opposite him. "We're aligned"."Completely" Dahlia seconded, almost immediately. The words landed easily. Too easily.Minutes later, documents slid across the table. Pens raised. Signatures place

  • Her Exodus, His Regret.    29. Home, on the line...

    29. Home, on the line...Liam stood there for a moment too long. His gaze flickered once to his reflection in the pool before resting on the spot his mother had left from. A marriage proposal. And not just any proposal. But one to the woman he has ever loved. Dahlia Winters. An offer he wasn't supposed to refuse but he did. Why? He didn't know the answer to that. Sam walked in again. This time, his face held a grim expression. He could feel the tension crackling harshly in the air. "Sir" he called him."It's been long something interesting ever happened, don't you think?" Liam said amidst a dry chuckle. "Sir""My mom really knows how to spice up the game""What are your orders sir?" Sam asked, voice firm. "Nothing" he turned and began making his way inside. "Nothing. Let's just watch and see... but.." he paused in his steps, meeting Sam's eyes squarely. "Place someone on Dahlia's side. Don't let anything happen to her"."Yes sir!" Sam replied with a dip of his head before leavin

  • Her Exodus, His Regret.    28. Pools and positions...

    28. Pools and positions...The meeting finally came to an end. Lucien left, gloom etched sparsely across his face. The room fell back into silence save for Dahlia's soft tapping on the desk. Her face held no expression but the slight shift in her eyes said otherwise. Gaux walked in. "Miss Winters" she called her. Dahlia blinked hard, forcing a small smile on her face. "Gaux, get me a cuppa". Gaux looked at her once, worry evident in her eyes. "Yes Miss".A few minutes later, Gaux returned with the coffee. "Here it is Miss" she said, placing it calmly on the desk. Dahlia grabbed it, and took a sharp sip from it. Same coffee. Her favorite. "Are you alright Miss Winters?" Gaux couldn't help asking. Dahlia looked at her. "Yes. I am". "Do you really have to meet him for this project to work out? You could send me in your place" Gaux said, voice cautious yet firm. Dahlia sipped. "You know I prefer getting things done by myself". Gaux inhaled. "I know that Miss. It's just...""Don't

  • Her Exodus, His Regret.    27. Between pages and glances...

    27. Between pages and glances...Next morning.DAH Global was all glass and quiet ambition. Dahlia was already inside the conference room when Lucien arrived. She stood by the table, files spread neatly before her, tablet resting beside them. White dress suit. Hair tied back. Clean. Composed. So painfully put together it almost annoyed him. She didn't look up. "I organized the proposal" her voice came. Unrushed. "Take a look". Lucien closed the door behind him. "Good morning to you too" he said, face stiffened with a smirk. But still nothing. He moved closer, pulling out a chair. "You always did like control".That did it. A glance from her. Brief. Cool. "This isn't about control" she said. "It's about clarity". She tapped the document. "The expansion shouldn't feel rushed. It needs to make sense. To the land. To the people around it, to the guests". Lucien skimmed the pages, slower than necessary. "You're trying to make the resort feel like a story". "I'm trying to make it f

  • Her Exodus, His Regret.    26. A memory of her.

    26. A memory of her. Morning arrived in washed out tones, the sky bruised with grey as sunlight edged cautiously forward. It wasn't bright— not yet. Just present, like a truth that had decided not to hide anymore. Lucien remained awake long after the night had passed, standing by the window as if waiting for something to make sense. A buzz on the bedside table— low yet grating, reached his ears. His mother. Lucien's jaw tightened. He reached for it then paused midway. He stared at the name on the screen for a few seconds before letting his hand drop and turning back to the window. The manor was quiet. Too quiet. After what felt like minutes, maybe only seconds, he stepped out of the room. The corridor was empty, silence stretching more than it was supposed to. Even the staff seemed to have learned how to disappear. Only the low hum of the air conditioner reminded him that time was still moving. His mother had called. Why? Maybe to remind him about a marriage he never really agr
