Chapter 9: The Lesson!

Working into the small cafe half an hour later, Lucianda went directly to the customer’s counter to ask of the boss.

Laura was bringing out a tray of meals for a customer when her boss ran to her. He almost fell the tray she was holding in his eagerness to talk to her.

“What are you doing, Laura?” He cried nervously.

Wondering if the boss was trying to scold her for something she had done, Laura took a step backward. Her boss could sometimes be mean in his words and actions.

“I was going to serve a customer, sir.” She answered quietly.

“Serve a customer? But why?” He asked in a fearful tone.

Wondering if her boss was having a fever, Laura answered slowly.

“Because it’s my job?” She asked with a raised eyebrow.

“Yea yea, your job but not when your sister is here to see you. It will not reflect well on us.” He was anxious as he took the tray from her lifeless fingers.

“My sister is here?” Laura wanted to add, ‘But I don’t have a sister?’

“Yes and she is waiting for you right now in the
