Chapter 2: Should I be Worried?

Abbigayle's POV

I was lucky that I met someone on my first day of school. Klaress and I have been hanging out every day at school and she even hangs by my apartment. We always do our research at the university’s library and she didn’t even complain even if she can do it at their home where there is an internet connection. She said that she likes hanging out with me since she wants to live a normal life.  I guess it’s tiring to be rich sometimes.

We were doing our research in the library when she suddenly asked me something.

“Hey Abby, what do you think about our Language professor?” Klaress asked.

“Why? What about him?” I said.

“I mean, isn’t he hot and handsome?” She said.

“Well, yeah he is.” I said.

“Do you have a boyfriend?” She asked.

“Do you see someone around me?” I joked. “I don’t have one. Do you?”

“No, I don’t think I’m allowed to have one either.” She said. “I don’t think I’m ready also. I don’t want to be in a relationship with just whomever there is. I wanna be with someone who actually loves me and whom I love too.”

“I guess that’s the right mindset. You don’t just go on and date people that you don’t even care about.” I said.

“But did you have boyfriends before?” she asked me. “I’m sure you did. Who wouldn’t have a boyfriend with a face and a body like yours? You’re like a model.”

“No, I didn’t. I was too focus on my studies up until now.” I said. “I have to be successful someday so I can help my parents and it’s my way of showing my gratitude to them.”

“That’s good. I can really see how goal-oriented you are. I like that about people, you know when they have set goals for themselves.” She said.

“Yes, we really think alike. I’m glad we’ve met each other. I want to have a friend and a college buddy who can positively influence me.” I said. “Since you know my parents aren’t here to guide me.”

“I’m glad to know that I’m helping you.” She said as she smiled. “I’m so thankful for your company also. I felt like I wouldn’t be alone and left out when I have you as a friend.

“Don’t you have any friends on this campus? How about your friends from your previous school? Don’t they study here?” I said.

“I had friends before but they were just befriending me because of my social status that’s why my parents decided to homeschool me.” She said.

“That’s very cruel of them. Anyway, what made you change your mind now and enter this university?” I asked her.

“Well, I wanted to go out and explore. I’m so tired of being homeschooled and I see this as an opportunity for me to grow.” She said.

“I’m glad you did. If not, I wouldn’t have known you.” I said.

“I know right. I’m glad I did too.” She said.

“You shouldn’t let other people be a hindrance to whatever it is that you want to do in your life,” I said.

“You’re right.” She said.  “That’s why I’m here and I’m with you because I faced my fears. I don’t wanna hide from the world all my life.”

“I didn’t know it was a bad thing to become rich?" I teased her.

“You have no idea. It feels like people will always have a bad intention in you.” She said. “You won’t know who’s true and who’s not. It's hard to find someone to trust.”

“That’s hard. Well, I’m glad we’re not that rich I don’t have to worry about people taking advantage of me you know.” I said.

“Yeah, you’re right. On the other hand, I don’t really complain since being rich gives me opportunities that other people do not have. I’m still beyond thankful and blessed.” She said.

“That’s right. Other people are struggling also. We are all struggling in different levels and our own different situations.” I said.

“Yes and that’s why I’m still thankful for the life that I have now. I don’t have to worry about what to eat or what to wear since it is well provided to me.” She said.

“I agree with you.” I said.

“Anyway, are we done here?” She said.

“Why?” I said. “I think we can continue this tomorrow.”

“I’m just tired that’s all. We’ve been here all afternoon.” She said.

“I am too. I think we should call it a day.” I said.

“Thank God!” She said as she stretched her hands upward.

We stood up and went out of the library.

“Hey, Abby I'm just wondering if you would want to visit our house?” Klaress asked me.

“Why?” I said.

“I want you to meet my parents since you’re my friend.” She said. “I’m sure they’ll love you.”

“I’m not sure about that,” I said. “We’ve only been friends for just a few days.”

“Please?” She said. “We have a family lunch this Sunday since that’s the only time that we’ll be complete. Please?”

“Alright, I will.” I said.

“Thank you!” She said.

“Anyway, what do you mean you’re complete?” I said out of curiosity.

“Well, my brother travels often now that he has graduated from college. It’s his privilege for finishing his studies.” She said. “He’s nice but he can be an ass sometimes.”

“Should I be worried about meeting your brother?” I said.

“No, you shouldn’t.” She said as she winked at me.

Why do I have this feeling that I really should be worried?
