Chapter 1

Charlie's POV

I had just maneuvered my wheelchair back into the room when my right hand suddenly lost all its strength, making it impossible to grip the wheel's handrim.

It felt as though all strength had been drained from the entire hand, leaving it hanging limply and completely powerless.

I was baffled by the sudden situation. I froze for a few seconds, then suddenly remembered that there was a sustained-release medication in the first-aid kit on the bedside table.

I remembered that when Mom had given me an overdose of an injection, leaving me completely paralyzed on the floor and unable to move my eyes, she had given me that specific medication that helped me recover gradually. I knew that as long as I took that medication, everything would be fine.

I maneuvered my wheelchair closer to the bedside table. With only a fraction of a distance left between the wheelchair and the cabinet, I leaned forward and reached out with my left hand for the first-aid kit.

Just as I managed to touch the edge of the first-aid kit with my fingertips, it slipped backward slightly before I could grab it. I tried again, leaning farther forward, only for the wheelchair to slide backward slightly. I had failed to reach it again.

I tried for the third time, but I suddenly felt wet underneath me. I felt warm liquid trickling down my thighs, completely soaking my thermal pants.

I was instantly stunned. I looked down and noticed a small puddle spreading under the wheelchair.

It took me several seconds before I understood what had happened. I instantly felt my cheeks burning, the humiliation hitting me like a slap. I had been toilet trained since I was three years old, and I was now already ten years old. I couldn't believe that I actually wet myself.

Panicking, I tried to scramble out of the wheelchair, but my legs completely refused to work. The urine kept trickling out, completely out of my control.

I cried from sheer panic, my tears splashing against the blanket. I felt incredibly embarrassed. I knew that if Mom came back and found this puddle on the floor, she would reprimand me.

I propped my left hand against the bed to pull myself onto it, but my right hand couldn't hold any weight. I tried to lift myself up but kept slipping, losing my grip repeatedly. I eventually rolled completely out of the wheelchair and crashed to the floor.

My knees slammed against the tile floors, but I felt absolutely nothing. I looked at my two legs, sprawled out and twisted beneath me as I lay there on the floor.

I suddenly remembered the first-aid kit. I knew everything would be fine as long as I took the medication. I would be able to move my right hand if I took it, and I wouldn't wet myself anymore.

Propping myself up against the ground with my left hand, which still had strength, I dragged my completely numb lower body.

I crawled inch by inch toward the head of the bed. I could feel the hard flooring pressing painfully against my chest, making me tremble with agony every time I moved.

Finally, I managed to reach the first-aid kit. I reached out and gave it a pull, causing the kit to hit the floor with a loud clatter and its contents to spill out.

I spotted the bottle of sustained-release medication rolling out as well. I poured a single pill into my hand, popped it into my mouth, and swallowed it without any water.

Charlie's POVMom dropped to her knees, weeping uncontrollably. "I-I'm so sorry, Charlie; I really am. I know I was wrong. I truly realized it now. I'm begging you, Charlie—please forgive me."She repented repeatedly, begging me to forgive her.I gazed at her quietly, feeling neither hatred nor love in my heart. All that remained was a quiet, hollow emptiness. I spoke gently, my voice drifting like a whisper carried by the wind. "Mom…"She abruptly raised her head and looked at me with a glimmer of hope in her eyes.I looked into her eyes and said deliberately, "Thank you for bringing me into this world, Mom, but since I've returned this life of mine to you, I just hope that if there is a next time, I won't be your son anymore."Upon hearing that, the expectation on Mom's face froze, then shattered. She didn't want this outcome. She wanted my forgiveness and the salvation of her soul, but what I gave her was the most absolute, most brutal severing of ties."T-That can't be!" M

Charlie's POVMom broke down completely after reading the last line on the last page. "If I die, will Mom finally stop hating me?"She let out a pained scream so broken that it no longer sounded human. She held onto the diary desperately, as if it were the last lifeline she had left, yet it burned in her hands like a scorching piece of metal. She was completely overwhelmed with remorse, grief, and despair at that moment.…I had a very simple funeral. It was overcast and drizzling, as though the sky were mourning me too. A few people who showed up—Aunt Jackie, Grandma, Grandpa, and Declan, who was shaken up and frightened.Dad and Mom were there as well. They were granted a brief release under the guard of two police officers to say their final goodbyes. They were wearing gray prison jumpsuits with handcuffs on their wrists, looking as though they had aged over a decade in only a few days.Their legs buckled the moment they saw my black-and-white portrait on the tombstone, an

Charlie's POVDad was unable to continue speaking, crying like a child despite being a grown man.Having heard Mom and Dad's account, the police officer remained silent for a long time before he let out a heavy sigh. "You're both so foolish! What you did wasn't teaching him a lesson—it was intentional injury!"He gestured to the police officers behind him and said, "Take them back to the station and initiate a formal investigation."Two young police officers walked forward and took out their handcuffs, locking Mom and Dad's wrists with a cold, metallic click. It was only then that the reality of what they had done truly hit them. This wasn't a "punishment game" to be called off at will. It was a crime lasting five years, capable of destroying a person's life forever—and I was the only innocent victim in it all.Mom and Dad were taken away. The house suddenly became empty, with no one left except Aunt Jackie and Declan, who was shivering in terror. The police cordoned off my ro

Charlie's POVThough the police officer spoke calmly, every word struck Dad's and Mom's hearts like a crushing blow.Mom's eyes widened in sheer horror and disbelief. She muttered to herself, "T-That's impossible… He was obviously faking it… He hadn't received an injection in a month, so he should have recovered by now…"The police officer frowned, immediately catching the key detail in her words. "What do you mean by injections? You're familiar with this medication?" Mom's lips trembled uncontrollably, leaving her unable to utter a single word.Aunt Jackie had already shot to her feet in shock when she heard the police officer mention long-term injections of a muscle relaxant. She stared fixedly at Dad and Mom, her eyes full of questions and disbelief. "Ethan? Francine?"Aunt Jackie's voice trembled as she asked, "What does the officer mean by muscle relaxant injections? Didn't Charlie break his legs when he was young? Have you been lying to me?"Dad lowered his head and gri

Charlie's POVAunt Jackie's hysterical screaming sounded on the other end of the line, sounding thick with tears and completely incoherent. "You have to come back now, Ethan! C-Charlie is dead!"All the strength seemed to drain Dad, and his lips trembled so much that he couldn't even utter a single word.Mom snatched the phone away and yelled into the receiver, "What nonsense are you talking about? How could anything have happened to Charlie? He was fine this morning!"Aunt Jackie broke down crying on the other end of the phone. "I'm not lying, Francine! I brought him his lunch and called out to him, but he didn't respond. I pushed the door open and saw him lying there on the floor, his body completely cold…"Mom's voice grew shrill. "That's impossible! He must be faking it! He's lying to us again! He just wants to force us to come home! Dad asked. He wanted to say a few more words, but Mom was already hurrying him impatiently out of the hallway. "Hurry up! We'll run into traffic if we don't leave now!"The front door slammed shut with a bang.My soul involuntarily hovered toward them, crowding into the car.
