Axton-

“Find out what has happened to her.” I told my best friend, Kason Yates, as I carried Zira to the car.

“Yes, Sir!” Kason saluted me out of habit before running down the street, ignoring the fact that it was pouring rain.

I didn’t care for him or anyone else to treat me like their superior, even if I was. It was one thing for them to do it when we were on duty, but around civilians, I would rather keep a low profile. Not only was I the leader of our team, but as of two years ago, I became the Alpha King.

Only those on my team knew I was the Alpha King because I needed to keep a low profile. Not only for mine and my team's sake but for Zira’s. After climbing into the back seat of the Hummer, which my friend Lukas was driving, I cradled Zira on my lap.

Despite being unconscious, she was shivering and an intense heat radiated from her body. Aside from that, I could feel an electric current moving from her and through me. It was the same current I felt ten years ago when I saved her.

I wasn’t entirely sure if it meant she was my mate, but I knew we had a connection. Because of that reason, I had taken her home and had my brother and his mate take her in. I knew that they never accepted her as a member of their pack, but as long as they took care of her as I asked, I didn’t care.

If I hadn’t gone into the military, I would have taken care of her myself. It was probably for the best that I didn’t because she had only been eight at the time. I never would have done anything improper toward her, but if I had watched her grow into the beautiful woman young woman she has become, it would have been hard to resist.

Every year I returned home to check on her, I felt our connection grow. I did my best to avoid her when I was around and tried not to interfere with her life. Seeing her condition now, I wondered if I had made the right decision to leave her.

“Take us to my house.” I instructed Lukas.

During the drive, I brushed away the matted hair that clung to her face. Her skin was hot to the touch, which was enough to indicate she had a fever. Since she didn’t have her wolf yet, she was as fragile and prone to sickness, just like a human.

My heart seized in my chest at the thought Zira was sick or injured. When we arrived at my house, I carefully exited the Hummer with Zira still in my arms. Lukas also exited the vehicle and he shut the door for me.

“Ax…” Lukas’s face paled before I could walk away.

“What?” My brows arched.

“She is bleeding.” Lukas’s gaze was on Zira he looked terrified.

Lukas and Kason knew what Zira meant to me and this wasn’t the first time they met her, so his reaction didn’t surprise me. Glancing down, I spotted a red stain on her light grey shirt. Not only that but since we were in the garage, there was a puddle of blood on the concrete floor beside my feet. With how much blood she was losing, I felt like an idiot for not noticing sooner.

“Call for a doctor!” I ordered as I quickly rushed inside the house.

Although I don’t return home except once a year, I had a full staff who took care of my house. A few housekeepers, two cooks, three gardeners, a butler, and at least twenty bodyguards. They were responsible for maintaining the house in my absence and being ready for my arrival at all times.

As soon as I entered the house, I was immediately greeted by my butler, who had likely been waiting by the door. Ignoring him, I ran through the house, to the staircase that led upstairs and then to my bedroom. Shortly after I placed Zira on the bed, one of the housekeepers entered the room.

“Is there anything I can help with?” The young housekeeper asked as she looked down at Zira, with a panick-stricken expression.

“Get me the first aid kit, a large bowl of water, a few clean towels, and a change of clothes.” I ordered.

“What can I do?” My butler asked, who had also followed me to the room.

“Turn on the heat as high as it will go. If possible find me a heated blanket.”

Without further instructions, the butler and housekeeper left me alone with Zira. During my time in the military, I learned a thing or two regarding medical treatment. I knew it would take a bit for a doctor to arrive, so I knew I needed to try to stop the bleeding.

Turning Zira onto her side, I ripped her shirt along the seem to expose where she was injured. When I saw a fresh surgical site where her kidney was, my heart felt like it had sunk to my stomach. Anger and regret filled me as I sank onto the bed beside Zira.

“What did they do to you?” I whispered although I knew she wouldn’t be able to answer me.

I didn’t know who had done this to Zira, but I knew someone was responsible. When I found out who was responsible for this, I silently vowed to make them pay. I was about to rush the housekeeper who I sent to retrieve what I needed to tend to Zira’s wound, but she arrived before I opened my mouth.

Taking one of the towels from her, I let her get the first aid kit ready for me. Using the towel to gently press against her wound to stop the bleeding, I gritted my teeth. At this point, I could only blame myself for Zira being in this condition. Even if I wasn’t home, she was still my responsibility.

After my brother and his mate died, I had a feeling Zira wouldn’t be taken care of. I should have come back for her then, instead of waiting until now. Taking a deep breath, I tried to get my emotions under control as I pulled the towel away and tossed it to the ground.

The bleeding had stopped for the most part, so I used another towel and placed it in the bowl of water on the bedside table. After getting it damp, I cleaned off the excess blood. Once it was relatively clean, I did my best to doctor up the wound until a doctor could arrive.

Without knowing what happened to her, I didn’t want to do anything that would make her condition worse. Once the wound was a little better, I wrapped gauze around her waist. I wanted to be the one to remove her wet clothes because I didn’t trust anyone else, but that would be crossing a boundary I shouldn’t cross.

“Bring in two other females and help her change her clothes.” I instructed the housekeeper as I moved off the bed.

When other female housekeepers entered the room to assist in changing Zira, I left the room and stood in the hall, guarding the bedroom. While I stood there, my hands were clenched in tight fists at my sides. Anytime I heard a noise, I wanted to burst into the room. It took every ounce of energy I possessed to keep myself calm.

“Done.” One of the housekeepers announced when she opened the door.

Spinning on my heels, I pushed past them to enter the room. Now Zira was lying on her back, wearing a simple white cotton nightgown, which likely came from one of the housekeepers. The blanket was tucked around her.

If I didn’t know better, it would look as if Zira was just sleeping. Sitting on the bed next to her, I pressed the back of my hand against her forehead. She was almost burning up, but I was afraid to give her anything to reduce the fever until the doctor arrived.

“I couldn’t find a heated blanket, but I brought a few heavy blankets to cover her with.” My butler announced as he entered the room.

"It will work for now." I sighed and made a mental note to get more things that humans usually needed.

Taking the covers from him, I covered Zira with the extra blankets hoping it would help. After sitting beside her again, I took one of the clean towels I hadn’t used and began drying her hair. When I finished drying her hair, Lukas and Kason arrived, with a doctor.

Reluctantly I left Zira’s side so the doctor could examine her, while I stepped out into the hall with Kason, after telling Lukas to stay in the room and protect Zira.

“Did you find anything?” I asked Kason.

“You need to prepare yourself.” Kason tensed like he was prepared for an attack.

“Tell me.” I demanded.

“There are some things I haven’t found out, but what I have learned, isn’t good. Since shortly after you left Zira with your family, they haven’t taken care of her at all. In fact, they have been treating her like a slave. All the information they gave you regarding her has been falsified.” Kason began and handed me a black folder with information regarding what he could find about the last ten years.

I didn’t open the file, as I was too afraid to look. The regret I felt earlier intensified, and I stumbled back against the wall. If not for the wall holding me up, I would have collapsed on the ground. Clutching the file in my unsteady hands, I tried to mentally prepare myself. When Kason continued explaining what he found, I opened the file to see for myself.

Linda-I didn’t know how long I was unconscious, but when I woke up, my head was killing me. On the plus side, I was still alive. Opening my eyes, I noticed I was inside a small room, like a closet. On the ceiling, there were many different pipes, which suggested I might be in the basement. It was a dimly lit room, but I was the only one inside. I was leaning against the cool, damp wall, with my hands tied behind my back. Thankfully, my phone was still in my pocket. To get it out, I had to wiggle around a bit, and after a few moments, the phone fell out of my pocket. Twisting slightly, I managed to grab my phone with my hands, although it had been difficult and painful as I had to strain myself. Not only were my hands behind my back, but my arms were looped around a metal pipe as well. With a bit of adjusting, I was able to get the phone. Now sitting in a very awkward position, I tried to call someone, but I didn’t have any signal in the basement.I was alone at this moment, but I had

Linda-I was freaking out. What if someone found out what I did? I knew it was wrong to hire people to kidnap that Zira girl, but after what my best friend Allie said, I thought I needed to teach that girl a lesson. Yet, after I saw her taken away, I started to panic.I was still in high school, and even if I wasn’t the one who actually kidnapped her, I was the one to hire the guys. Technically, they were people Allie knew, and she had told me that they would do almost anything for the right price, even kill a person. I didn’t want to kill anyone, but I thought it wouldn’t hurt to scare her.I never told them to take her from the school parking lot, though. It was too public, and if they were caught, it would be traced back to me. To make matters worse, I couldn’t go home because my family wasn’t there. I wouldn’t have an alibi. So, I decided to stay after school and volunteer with the dance committee. I thought it might help distract me, but it didn’t. In fact, I felt even worse beca

Axton-As I walked, I kept thinking of what could have happened if I hadn’t arrived when I did. Seeing how Bryce had pinned Zira to the ground, trying to take advantage of her, had nearly sent me over the edge. If not for Kason and Lukas, I might have killed him.Twisting my head slightly, I placed a gentle kiss against Zira’s head, careful not to wake her. I wasn’t sure when exactly she fell asleep, but I was positive she was asleep from the way her breathing became deep and steady. She was also limp in my arms.Walking the few miles back to where we left the vehicle. I silently vowed that I would never let her go. I would need to find a way to get her to accept me as her mate. Even if she didn’t know what we were, I had to at least get her to fall in love with me.The moment I learned that there was a chance I would never see her again, I became even more convinced that I was irrevocably in love with her. It had nothing to do with our mate bond. Zira was extraordinary just for the f

Axton-“Find her!” I roared, causing my voice to echo in the vast open space surrounding us.The instant Lukas informed me Zira had been kidnapped, I dropped everything to go to school. That was the location of the necklace I could access. If Lukas had told me that the necklace had been removed, I could have saved a bit of time or gotten a lead on her before it became cold.I admit I might have taken things a little too far when Lukas returned from trying to track Zira. The moment he returned, I clocked him hard in the face, causing him to shed a bit of blood. If Kason hadn’t arrived, I likely would have done a lot worse. It didn’t help that I had done it in front of others, still at the school. However, since I had assigned Lukas to keep her safe, I felt he was at fault. At the same time, I knew I couldn’t blame him either.I knew that letting Zira out of the house without someone with her at all times was risky. She couldn’t protect herself, and there was danger all around her. Yet,

Zira-“About time you woke up.” A familiar voice spoke from behind me.I didn’t need to see the man who spoke to know who he was. Before he walked around to get within my line of vision, I already knew it was Bryce Miller. Trenton’s second best friend, and the biggest idiot I have met.“What do you want with me?” I asked through gritted teeth as soon as he was standing before me.“Isn’t it obvious?” Byrce cocked his head to the side and raised his eyebrows, which looked like they needed trimmed or something.I always thought Trenton was good-looking, but I have questioned his reasoning for befriending Bryce. At least Trenton’s best friend, Glenn, was handsome, but Bryce was definitely not. He looked like a scrawny kid, despite being in his early twenties, with a mustache that looked as if it was struggling to grow in.He also had eyebrows that were twice the size of a normal male brow, expanding across his forehead and almost looking like an unibrow. His eyes were not proportional to

  • Her Redemption, His Weakness   Chapter 72

Zira-Wednesday morning, I was a little sad that I needed to go to school alone. I did feel better driving on my own, after I drove alone a few times around the neighborhood. I was just looking forward to spending a bit more time with Axton.Ever since I told him about what happened during my test, other than when he was training me, or taking me to and from school, I rarely saw him. He and Kason have been trying to locate the werewolf who exposed himself to a human. I understood why they needed to, but that didn’t mean I liked having less and less time with Axton.I thought we were getting closer lately, and that I had a chance to get him to consider me as a true mate prospect. However, today, he wasn’t home when I woke up. I only had a text from him saying he had a lead, but he wouldn’t be able to take me to school or pick me up.The lack of time I had with Axton wasn’t the only issue. I couldn’t put my finger on it, but something felt a little off today. I was on edge, as was my wo

Zira-“Okay, let’s do another lane change.” The instructor advised.Without a word, I nodded once as I extended my fingers to turn on the proper turn signal. However, now that I was nervous again, I screwed up and accidentally turned on the wrong one. Quickly fixing my mistake, I sucked in a sharp breath. When I heard the sound of the instructor’s pen scratching against the clipboard, I knew I screwed up. Although the mistakes I have made were small, they felt huge to me. My heart was pounding so hard I could feel it in my throat. My palms were also sweating a lot more.Gripping the steering wheel tighter, so my hands didn’t slip and lose my grip, I tried to calm my nerves. Every time I saw another car or something when I was checking my mirrors or looking out of the window, I kept imagining all of the things that could go wrong. On a side note, I noticed that the car seemed to be handling things a lot more smoothly than usual, so that helped.“Okay, let’s pull into the parking lot.”

  • Her Redemption, His Weakness   Chapter 70

Zira-After parking the car, I felt nervous again when I noticed other people were standing outside, staring at me. They were all younger than me, by two or four years. I haven’t cared that I was behind with a lot of things until now. However, those nerves quickly vanished when I got out of the car, and the kids surrounded me. They hadn’t been staring at me, they were more interested in the vehicle. Feeling more relaxed, I answered all the questions that the kids asked. Axton answered the questions I couldn’t answer.“Zira Valdez?” An overweight man with a balding head yelled as he stepped out of the building.“Here.” I raised my arm as the kids around the car walked away.“Is this the car you will be driving?” The man, I assumed was the instructor, asked.“Yes, sir.” I nodded as I walked to the driver's side and used my voice to command the car to open the doors.“Okay.” He wrote something on the clipboard he had in his hand before walking to the passenger side. He waited to get in

Zira-The following morning, when I made my way downstairs, I glanced towards Axton’s room. I wasn’t sure if he was home yet, but if he was, it was possible he was sleeping. Since I didn’t want to wake him if he was in his room, I quietly made my way down the stairs.Feeling hungry, as I hadn’t eaten much last night, I went directly toward the kitchen. It was still a little early, so I was surprised to hear noises coming from inside the kitchen. On the weekends, the kitchen staff didn’t usually arrive until after eight or nine, but it was only seven in the morning. When I reached the kitchen door, I hesitated to go inside because if they were early, I didn’t want to bother them while they were working. Slowly retreating, intending to go back to my room, I paused when my stomach grumbled. With a low groan, I walked forward and decided that maybe I could just grab a banana before I went outside to get in my morning exercise.Pushing open the door, I froze when I saw who was in the kitch
