Chapter 2 Fake

Author: Ao-Ume
"Mr. Shaw, I know you hate me, but my parents have nothing to do with this! My dad almost died of a heart attack because you asked your bodyguard to kick them out! Please, just let us go. Even if I have to let Rachel marry you, I'll do it…"

His voice was cracking at the end. I had no idea what he was saying at first, but Rachel was already holding his arm. She was giving me a look that said she hated my guts. "Zacharias has nothing to do with this! Why are you doing this to him?"

Well, this was odd. I had no idea why she was accusing me. "I didn't—"

"You've been the same since you were a kid. You think you can do anything and get away with it," Rachel snapped.

Then, someone gave her a gift box, trying to be unctuous. "Ms. Osborne, here's a gift for your engagem—"

Rachel snatched the gift box and hurled it at me right in front of the public. "Apologize to Zacharias right now, or else I'm not going to marry you. I know your family's stronger than mine, but I still won't marry a snake!"

The box had a beautiful cover, but the sharp edges cut my chin open. The people around us gasped, but none came forward. I touched my chin, and a sliver of red stained my palm.

This woman was not the one I knew. Now, she looked more like the one I saw in my past life. The one who yelled at me because of Zacharias. My heart was growing colder for her. "I'm not apologizing for something I didn't do."

"You're going to regret this." Rachel held Zacharias and left.

My parents were worried sick about my wound. They took me back home and called the family physician to check on me. Though they were concerned, I was glad. I was glad God gave me a second chance. He gave me a chance to correct my mistakes.

My parents were still alive, and the family's riches had not fallen into the wrong hands. This time around, I would stay away from Rachel and Zacharias like they were the plague.

The Olivieras sent the engagement gifts to us a few days later, and they filled up the villa. I saw a pocket watch among them. They were the Oliviera family's heirloom. It was proof that they took this marriage seriously.

My heart went out for myself. In my previous life, when the Osbornes found out I loved Rachel deeply, they told everyone they hated me. They only agreed to marry Rachel to me because I would not give up.

Thanks to that, we had no engagement party, the Osbornes gave us no wedding gifts, and the wedding was little more than a family dinner.

Her parents mocked me the whole dinner, and Rachel had nothing but contempt for me. Yet the Olivieras gave this event so much importance. Once again, I thanked God for giving me another chance at life.

In the end, I decided to pick the engagement present for Seraphina myself.

It was an old shop. One that had been open for a century. I was talking about the necklace's design with the maker when Rachel and Zacharias came in hand in hand.

The sight of me filled her face with disdain. "What are you doing here?"

The old maker explained, "Mr. Shaw is designing the fiancée's engagement gown himself."

She scoffed at the designs on the table and raised her head higher. "I told you, I never wanted to marry you. That won't change, no matter how much you do. And I hate acronym engravings on necklaces. It's so tacky."

I looked at the letter 'O' drawn on the draft. Ah, she must've mistaken the 'O' for Osborne. "The necklace is for…"

"Oh, this suit is nice, Rachel." Zacharias' eyes lit up and passed me by. He then picked up the suit I hung.

The look in Rachel's eyes turned softer. "We can get the maker to make the same one for you."

"But I want to wear it tonight to the concert. With you."

Zacharias was so gentle with her, and Rachel smiled. She imperiously told the maker, "I'll need you to change up this suit to fit Zacharias better. We have a concert to attend, so make it snappy."

Rachel was taken to the hospital. She had to get eight stitches for her forehead. When she woke up, everything around her was disoriented, and she wouldn't stop throwing up. The doctor checked her and said she had a concussion. The bodyguards thought this was not their fault. "We just wanted to kick her out. That woman crashed herself into the doorframe."Rachel was in her bed, panting weakly. And then she pointed at me. "My head's spinning, Sieghart."Seraphina pulled me away and told the bodyguard, "Get her a caretaker."Just before we could leave, Rachel threw up again, and she rang the bell. I watched the medical staff making trip after trip to her room, and I sighed. "Let me talk to her, Seraphina."I closed the door, and Rachel couldn't hide the delight on her face."I knew you'd never leave me for dead. You care about me. It's not too late. I love you, you love me, we are… Sorry, I mean, we'll get the marriage license tomorrow, and I promise I'll give you the perfect weddi

"You told me you liked the free ring that came with the candies, so I got you one from the department store. And I wrote my name on it. Black pen."That surprised both of us for a moment. When we turned around, Rachel was looking dark and stormy."You're lying to yourself, Sieghart! You put this ring on my table! It's proof you want to marry me!"Seraphina got the gist of the story. She smiled. "Oh, I remember now. She was my deskmate for a month before I went to another school."Oh, great, it was a misunderstanding on Rachel's part."Well, good thing it came back to me in the end." Seraphina held up the ring. Smiling, I put it around her finger.Rachel was still holding her bouquet, but I couldn't care less about her."Even if the ring wasn't for me, you still loved me all your life, Sieghart! I have a lot of your confession texts saved up in my phone! You can't deny that!"She spoke with determination and unlocked her phone, then she showed me all the confessions I made to he

"But he designed the gown and necklace just for the engagement. Just for Seraphina. And he didn't even do that for his poor old mother."Our parents laughed. I giggled too. From the corner of my eye, I saw Seraphina pushing her seat closer to me. She was nearly leaning on me. "I don't see the pocket watch."She was whispering, and I huddled closer to her too. "That's expensive. I'm saving that for the wedding."Seraphina smiled again. I noticed the love in her eyes, yet I was a little perplexed. I didn't remember talking to Seraphina in my previous life. This time around, I only picked her photo because she felt familiar, but I couldn't remember where I saw her before. And then she saw through me. Seraphina showed me a photo. It was a picture of me when I was in grade school."Wait, that's me!" I stared at Seraphina in surprise.Yes, of course, I remembered it now. Someone from Fortunopolis transferred into our school when I was a kid. She couldn't speak our language too well, an

Rachel smiled. "Ah, the God-fearing Ms. Seraphina Oliviera. Thought you couldn't care less about worldly matters, yet here you are, attending my and Sieghart's engagement. Did all the Bible reading mess up your head? He's my fiance, not yours. Everyone knows the man has loved me all his life. He would not marry anyone else."I stood with Seraphina, the look on my face stony. "Open your eyes, Rachel. Look around. This isn't your engagement. This is mine and Ms. Oliviera's!" I pointed at the sign. She followed my finger, but before she saw the name, she was met by my and Seraphina's parents. Before I picked my partner in life, my parents always smiled at Rachel, but this time, they couldn't care less about her. Instead, they were smiling at Seraphina. "Seraphina, I know my son can be a little bit childish at times. Do please tolerate him.""Of course, Mrs. Shaw. I'd never get into any arguments with him. He catches my eye really well."Seraphina's collected demeanor was infuriating

"You did everything you could, even pulled some dirty tricks, just to marry me. Fine, you get your wish, but I have my terms. You're never to interfere with any of my decisions after we're married. And you're forbidden from going home to your family. You will stay with mine and serve my parents like a servant. And you'll serve me and Zacharias!"A maid presented us with a prenup. It clearly said '50% of the Shaws' assets. Wedding gift.'I clenched my hands hard, refusing to sign the paper, and when I raised my head, my eyes were red with fury. "You're not the woman I'm marrying, Rachel!"That was the chance her mother needed. She slapped me again. "And you call your family top of the line. You can't even control your emotions! I'm going to teach you a lesson! Your parents failed you, but I won't! You will not embarrass my family!"And the abuse began. I suffered slap after slap until I lost count. And then I was forced to stamp the papers they gave me.When they let me go, they or
