Lauren

I woke up early this morning starving and headed straight to the kitchen to make breakfast.

Quickly whipped up something and gosh I’ve missed cooking. It’s been a two weeks since I got here and I feel like today is the first time I’m seeing this house. Well…. more like living here.

I’m usually always in my room, dining table and out of the house. But I’ve got to admit, it feels nice to actually do something around here.

I hum happily as I make breakfast while also cleaning the thing

  • Her Resolve   Chapter 92

Lauren’s POV Finding out that the child wasn’t Andre’s gave me more relief than I expected. It was strange, really. Because if I was being completely honest with myself, Andre had still hurt me. He had still cheated on me once before. That fact hadn’t magically disappeared just because the baby wasn’t his. And yet… The moment I saw the negative result on that test, something inside me loosened. Like a tight knot in my chest had finally been untangled. I sat on my couch that night after the call with his mother, my phone still clutched in my hand, tears rolling down my cheeks as relief washed through my entire body. My baby wouldn’t grow up in chaos. My baby wouldn’t grow up watching her parents fight over another woman’s child. My baby wouldn’t grow up with the confusion of step-sibling drama tied to betrayal and lies. Most importantly… My baby would know her father. That thought alone made my chest swell with emotion. Because my childhood had been… perfect. Truly per

  • Her Resolve   Chapter 91

Andre’s POV The first report about Lauren came in on a Thursday morning. I was in my office on the forty-second floor of my company’s headquarters in New York, staring at a stack of contracts that needed my signature. The city stretched endlessly beyond the glass walls behind my desk—steel, glass, and noise—but inside my office everything was quiet. Controlled. Disciplined. Just the way I liked it. My phone buzzed softly against the desk. I glanced at the screen. It was one of the men I had hired in Auckland through my private investigator of course The ones in charge of watching Lauren. For a second, my chest tightened. I picked up the phone immediately. “Talk.” “Sir,” the man said, professional and brief. “I saw her.” My grip on the phone tightened. Of course they did. I had a strong feeling she would be in that building, I guess I was right. For months after Lauren disappeared, I had tried to find her the normal way. Calling. Going to her office every day As

  • Her Resolve   Chapter 90

Lauren’s POVThe third day finally came.I had been waiting for it.Dreading it.Counting down to it.And yet when I woke up that morning, the first thought in my head was I’m not ready. The room was still dim, the early morning light barely slipping through the curtains. For a moment I just lay there, staring at the ceiling, my hand resting on the gentle curve of my stomach. My baby shifted slightly beneath my palm.A soft flutter.“Good morning,” I whispered. The movement made me smile for a moment, but the smile didn’t last.Because the thought returned immediately.Today.Today we would know.Or at least… Andre’s mother would know.I glanced at the clock beside my bed.6:14 AM.Too early.Too early for the results.Too early for my nerves. And definitely too early for the amount of thinking my brain was already doing.I groaned softly and sat up.“Okay,” I murmured to myself. “You need to get through today without losing your mind.”Easier said than done.⸻The first thing I did w

  • Her Resolve   Chapter 89

Lauren’s POV Two days.It had been two long, restless days since I spoke with Andre’s mom and asked her to help me get the DNA samples. Two days of waiting. Two days of waking up with a heavy feeling in my chest and falling asleep with the same thoughts chasing each other around my mind.Keisha said if I stayed inside my apartment any longer I would start talking to the furniture, so she practically forced me out of the house tonight.Which was how I ended up sitting across from her in a small Italian restaurant downtown. The place was warm and lively, filled with the comforting scent of garlic, roasted tomatoes, and fresh bread. Soft music played in the background while waiters moved between tables balancing plates of pasta and glasses of wine.It was the kind of place couples came to for quiet dinners.Friends came to laugh loudly. And pregnant women came to eat everything on the menu.Keisha and I had arrived at the same time, but Ethan was running late.Of course.“He better

  • Her Resolve   Chapter 88

Third Person POV Julia stepped into the nursery quietly, pushing the door open with the back of her hand. “I just came to check if you were done bathing her.” The words were casual. But to Andre’s mother, they landed like a thunderclap. Her heart nearly leapt out of her chest. For a split second, she froze where she stood beside the changing table, the sealed ziplock bag already tucked halfway into her purse. Had Julia seen? How long had she been there? Had she seen the bag? Her pulse thudded loudly in her ears. She stared at her closely to see if she had noticed something and was trying to act like she didn't. But Julia’s attention wasn’t on her hands. It wasn’t on the purse. It wasn’t even on the changing table. Julia’s eyes were fixed lazily on the baby ins

  • Her Resolve   Chapter 87

Third Person POV For the first time in months, Andre’s mother felt like she could breathe. The phone call had ended only seconds ago, but she still sat frozen on the edge of the bed, staring at the dark screen in her hand as if it might light up again. Lauren was alive. Safe. Not broken beyond repair. Not lost forever. A shaky laugh escaped her lips, quickly chased by tears. She pressed her palm against her chest as if to steady her racing heart. “She’s okay,” she whispered to herself. Relief washed over her in waves — thick, overwhelming, almost dizzying. For months she had lived in devastation. Lauren's leaving hurt her more than anyone could imagine. She didn’t tell her she was even planning on leaving despite how close she thought they were. Maybe she thought I would have tried to stop her from leaving. Which she w
