Lauren

“What are you saying dad?” I stare at my father in disbelief. “How can you agree to that without even consulting me first? I’m an adult dad, you don’t get to make decisions for me.” I say with tears slowly forming in my eyes.

“Listen dear, this is for the sake of the company. Without his investment, we’re going to lose it. I had no choice than to agree Lauren.” He sighs

“I won’t do it dad. I won’t.” I stand up from the couch clenching my fists tightly trying to retain my anger. “ I’ve done everything you wanted me to do. Everything you asked of me, I did. But not this time dad.” I look straight in his eyes silently pleading with my eyes but he looks away from me.

“The deal has been finalized Lauren, there’s nothing you can do about it. You just have to accept this.” He says.

“There are other successful companies who might be willing to invest in the company, he can’t be the only person.” I’m crying at this point, desperately looking for a way out of this nightmare.

“Do you think I’ve not tried? Do you think I’m happy giving my daughter away to that psycho? He says softly and finally looks at me.

“If there was another way out of this, I would have taken it but this is the only solution and you just have to deal with this.” He walks up to me and take my hands in his.

I hold his hands tightly, begging him desperately.” Daddy please, I’ll don’t want to marry him” I choke out.

Daddy sighs deeply and looks at me again “ the marriage is in two days, he’ll be coming over tomorrow with his parents to get acquainted with you before the marriage. Be on your best behavior.”

“I won’t marry him.” I choke out.

“If you don’t, then you’d cease to be my daughter. This isn’t just about you. It’s about the company and the well-being of this family. If you won’t do this for the family then I’ll cut you off.” With that, he storms out of my room.

I fall to the ground, crying my heart out.

It’s the next day. I’m sitting with my family waiting for the arrival of my “husband”. My mother is staring at me with worry in her eyes as I haven’t said a word since last night. She looks like she has been crying as well.

I can’t bear to look at my father. Not after what he said to me last night.

I look dehydrated and tired. I barely slept as I was up all night crying and thinking about my new reality and wondering if there’s any way out of the mess my father has made of my life.

I have dark circles under my eyes but I’m not bothered by my appearance. Maybe if I look unattractive he’ll call off the marriage. Just maybe.

The doorbell rings and my heart begins to race. I’m about to burst into fresh tears but my eyes are too weak from all the crying earlier. Or maybe it’s the stern look I get from my father.

I take a deep breath to compose myself. I stand up and smoothen my dress as I walk and take my position behind my parents who are already at the door, ready to welcome the guests.

As my mother opens the door, we’re greeted by the cheeriest couples. They greet my parents like they’ve been friends for years with hugs and compliments flying around. Their joy is so contagious and I smile a little to myself for the first time since I found out about my arranged marriage.

They seem like great people and I wonder if their son would be like this. Maybe this marriage will not be as bad as I think.

“Is this my future daughter-in-law?” Mrs Sabastian says, interrupting my thought.

“Hello ma’am, I’m Lauren and it’s a pleasure to meet you” I say with a small smile.

“Oh what a pleasant young woman! Isn’t she beautiful?” She says and face her husband. I look down as my cheek reddens a bit and I find myself blushing.

“She is indeed.” Mr Sabastian says as he stretches his hands towards me for a handshake. “ it’s nice to meet you dear.”

“Likewise sir. You’re welcome” For a second, I don’t feel as horrible as I was earlier. They’re really kind and welcoming.

“Where’s Andre? I don’t see him around, is he here?” My dad askes as he stretches his neck out of the door trying to find him.

“He’s in the car on a business call. He’ll come in soon.” Mrs Sabastian answers. “He’s always working and never has time away from his phone or office. It’s exhausting to watch” she tells my mom as they walk inside the house to get comfortable.

I’m about to close the door, when I see someone coming. As I look up to see who it is, I freeze instantly.

  • Her Resolve   Chapter 97

Lauren’s POV Nan’s voice had barely faded when she stepped aside… And Andre’s mother walked in. For a second, everything else disappeared. She looked exactly the way I remembered her—elegant, composed, effortlessly graceful—but there was something softer about her now. She wore a tailored ivory blouse tucked neatly into a high-waisted, deep emerald skirt that flowed just below her knees. The fabric moved gently as she walked, expensive but not loud. A pair of nude heels clicked softly against the marble floor, and her jewelry was minimal—just a delicate gold bracelet and small pearl earrings. Her hair was styled neatly, falling just past her shoulders in soft waves. But it wasn’t her outfit that held me. It was her face. The moment her eyes landed on me… Everything else faded for her too. All the tension. All the conversation she had clearly walked in on. Gone. “Lauren…” Her voice broke. And that was it. I didn’t think. I didn’t hesitate. I rushed to her. She met

  • Her Resolve   Chapter 96

Lauren’s POV (First Person) For the first time in what felt like forever… I woke up feeling peaceful. Not the kind of peace that comes from exhaustion. Not the kind that comes from temporarily forgetting your problems. But real peace. The kind that settles deep inside your chest and stays there. When I opened my eyes that morning, sunlight was pouring softly through the curtains of my old bedroom. The golden light stretched across the floor, warming the familiar furniture that had surrounded me for most of my life. For a moment, I just lay there quietly. Breathing. Listening. The house was alive again. I could hear faint movement downstairs. The distant clatter of dishes in the kitchen. Someone walking down the hallway. Normal sounds. Home sounds. A small smile spread across my face. I placed both hands over my belly. “Good morning,” I whispered to the little life inside me. The baby shifted slightly, almost as if responding. I let out a soft laugh. Life felt… dif

  • Her Resolve   Chapter 95

Lauren’s POV (First Person) After my mother and I finished talking, the heaviness in the room slowly began to ease. Not completely. There were still too many unanswered questions, too many wounds that hadn’t fully healed yet. But something important had happened. I was home. And for the first time in months, my mother wasn’t crying because she thought I was gone forever. She was crying because I was sitting right beside her. Eventually, Nan insisted that we both stop crying before we dehydrated ourselves. “Enough tears for one morning,” she muttered, wiping her eyes again. That made my mother laugh weakly through her sniffles. The sound warmed my heart. I hadn’t heard her laugh in a very long time. After a while, the house slowly began returning to life. My mother sat beside me on the couch, holding my hand while we talked about small things—things that had nothing to do with pain or guilt. Nan quietly directed the cleaners upstairs, making sure my room was properly cl

  • Her Resolve   Chapter 94

Lauren POV “All of this was because of Julia… right?” My mother’s question hung in the air between us like something fragile. Something heavy. For a moment, I just stared at her. Not because I didn’t know how to answer. But because I was surprised. Truly surprised. Somehow, in the strange little world I had built for myself these past months—hiding in another country, avoiding everyone who had once been part of my life—I had convinced myself that no one really knew what had happened. That may be the truth that had stayed inside those walls. Inside that house. Between me, Andre… and Julia. But of course that was foolish. How could my parents not have known? I blinked slowly, wiping the dampness from my cheeks. “How did you know it was because of her?” I asked qu

  • Her Resolve   Chapter 93

Lauren POV My first day back in New York was… quiet. Strangely quiet. Not the chaotic, fast-paced kind of New York I remembered. The kind where horns blared constantly, people rushed past each other without making eye contact, and the city never truly slept. This quiet came from inside me. Because for the first time since everything began, I wasn’t running anymore. I was here. Back in the city where my life had fallen apart. Back in the same place where I had walked out of my marriage. Back where the truth was waiting to be revealed. And yet… I spent most of that first day sitting by the large window in my hotel room, staring at the streets below and thinking. Planning. Strategizing. Because as determined as I was to reveal the truth, one question kept haunting me. How? How exactly was I supposed to do this? How do you walk into a room and tell everyone that the baby they believed belonged to your husband… wasn’t his? How do you expose someone like Julia without cre

  • Her Resolve   Chapter 92

Lauren’s POV Finding out that the child wasn’t Andre’s gave me more relief than I expected. It was strange, really. Because if I was being completely honest with myself, Andre had still hurt me. He had still cheated on me once before. That fact hadn’t magically disappeared just because the baby wasn’t his. And yet… The moment I saw the negative result on that test, something inside me loosened. Like a tight knot in my chest had finally been untangled. I sat on my couch that night after the call with his mother, my phone still clutched in my hand, tears rolling down my cheeks as relief washed through my entire body. My baby wouldn’t grow up in chaos. My baby wouldn’t grow up watching her parents fight over another woman’s child. My baby wouldn’t grow up with the confusion of step-sibling drama tied to betrayal and lies. Most importantly… My baby would know her father. That thought alone made my chest swell with emotion. Because my childhood had been… perfect. Truly per

Lauren POVI stir in bed, slowly waking up. Feeling restricted by a soft but hard surface, I realize that I’m in bed with my husband. My husband. I smile at the thought of that.
