Destiny POV

“Why aren’t you answering, Grandpa?” the child asked again, noticing the awkward silence at the dinner table.

“Well, it’s just… Ronan Foley, he…” my dad stammered, unprepared to face the situation. After all, we never had to worry about Kevin before because he was just a baby, but now he was starting to ask questions.

“Ronan Foley is just a friend of Grandpa’s, champ,” I said, saving my dad. “Grown-up stuff you don’t need to worry about, okay? Now go back to eating your mashed potatoes.” I smiled at the boy, ruffling his dark, curly hair.

The boy smiled back at me, his big blue eyes reminding me so much of someone I wanted to forget. “Okay, Mommy!” He turned his attention back to his plate, with his usual innocence. Everyone at the table let out a collective sigh of relief.

“That was… intense,” Cameron commented, making me laugh, a laugh that William and my father joined, breaking the awkward moment.

Moments later, I was already dressed in my long, burgundy silk nightgow

  • Her Return: His Regret    8: My playground

Destiny POV“I still think it was too dangerous,” said Cameron Becker, my assistant and best friend. “You were too exposed and unprotected in that elevator. We don’t know if your ex-husband is crazy enough to want to harm you after finding out the truth about you.”She and I were inside my limousine as my driver took me from Wall Street to the upscale residential neighborhood where I lived. Cameron was right—after all, we could have expected anything from Ronan Foley after I let him in on my real identity.I mean, Ronan could have lost it even more than he did and just killed me in that elevator, and I wouldn’t have been able to defend myself. It really was dangerous, but things had gone so well that I couldn’t fully grasp the danger at the time, feeling so satisfied with how it turned out.“You’re right, Cam. I’ll be more careful next time,” I said to my friend, gently stroking the back of her hand. She was clutching her tablet, adjusting her large glasses on her nose. Her blonde hai

  • Her Return: His Regret    7: You don't know me

Destiny POVThis day was turning out to be far more interesting than I’d expected. Like some obsessed lunatic, Ronan Foley had lain in wait in the elevator, biding his time until I showed up, just so he could trap me in there with him. It showed just how much my sudden reappearance had shaken him, pushing him to the point of risking everything. And there he was, his arms caging me against the elevator wall, his hands pressing into the metal on either side of my head, his face inches from mine, his brows furrowed in a sharp V, his blue eyes blazing with fury. “Talk, damn it! What are you doing here? Why did you disappear like that? Where have you been to just show up out of nowhere? Why didn’t you come find me?” he demanded.I couldn’t stop the corners of my mouth from curling into a smile—a smile of pure, wicked delight. Every word spilling from his lips was so satisfying, seeing him like this, completely unhinged, his composure shattered, lost and confused, grasping at straws to un

  • Her Return: His Regret    6: Losing his temper

Ronan POVMy mouth went dry, and I could barely breathe the moment my eyes locked on her, my mind refusing to believe what I was seeing. It was her—Destiny, my Destiny—standing there in front of everyone, declaring herself the rich heiress and new CEO of this entire law firm.It couldn’t be. It didn’t make sense. But there she was, her once-long dark hair that used to cascade freely down her back now cut into a sleek bob at her neck. She was slimmer, taller—maybe because of the heels—more commanding. Her wine-red lipstick was striking, her eyes sharp, her head held high. She’d always been beautiful, but now, she looked like the most stunning woman in the world.“Looks like my plan to seduce the CEO is officially canceled, huh,” Jules said beside me.“What…?” I mumbled, still too shocked for his words to register in my head.Destiny was speaking, talking about what an honor it was to take this position, how excited she was to start work, how she wanted to honor her family’s legacy, an

  • Her Return: His Regret    5. Is it really her?

Ronan Foley POVTwo Years Later“You know the new CEO of M&A is being introduced today?” Jules said as we rode the elevator up to the firm’s offices, starting another day of work.I held an espresso in one hand, my briefcase in the other. The morning felt calm, and I hoped it would stay that way. But at Jules’s words—my best friend’s voice cutting through the quiet—my brow furrowed, irritation creeping in. “Something I still can’t wrap my head around,” I muttered, displeased.Mr. Conner, the old CEO, had been ousted after a shareholder meeting without so much as a plausible reason, completely shaking up the firm’s dynamics with this new CEO.“Word is, it’s Lowell Morgan’s own daughter, the god of this whole operation,” Jules said with a chuckle. “They say she’s a spoiled, self-centered brat who got tired of her lavish jet-setting lifestyle and decided to meddle in the family business. Bet she’s gonna be a handful.”I sighed, resisting the urge to roll my eyes. The last thing I needed

  • Her Return: His Regret    4. Head on

Destiny POVThe words hung in the air like a death sentence: You’re pregnant. William Serrano’s voice echoed in my head, each syllable a hammer striking the fragile pieces of my already shattered world. Pregnant. Me. Carrying Ronan’s child, right when he’d kicked me to the curb like I was nothing more than a used tissue. My knees buckled, and before I knew it, I was shoving William’s arms away, tears streaming down my face as I stumbled out of his fancy Upper East Side townhouse. I didn’t care that my heels were slipping on the polished hardwood or that the cold Manhattan air bit at my bare arms. I just wanted to disappear, to vanish into the city’s chaos and let it swallow me whole.I wandered the streets, my red satin dress still stained with dirt from last night’s accident, the Band-Aid on my forehead itching like a reminder of my humiliation. The Upper East Side loomed around me—townhouses lined up like stone sentinels, their windows reflecting the golden glow of the afternoon
