LOGINAdira’s POV
I was stunned by the sudden slap, but not surprised, as it was not their first time doing something like that. I still remember getting slapped in my past life when I returned cheerfully after accepting Xavier’s proposal. But I was too ashamed to show my miserable face in front of the man whom I loved deeply and hid away until the bruises on my face recovered. I didn’t care about the red and purple marks on my body, because they were well hidden. However, this time, Xavier had come to find me after the failure of his proposal, and thanks to him… I wouldn’t get beaten by the whip lashed with wolfsbane as a dark grin flashed in my eyes. “Wh… Why are you here?” I tried to act as pitiful as possible, and the pain from the slap made my eyes tear up, making me look so bullied and in pain that anyone could feel pity for me instantly. “You… Young Master…” Melinda stammered, her voice totally different from the moment ago. The way fear crept in her, it replaced arrogance so quickly it was almost laughable. “How dare you?!” Xavier strode forward, barking as his hand closed around my wrist and pulled me behind him, his body shielding mine as if I were something precious. “Are you not aware of the fact that she is mine?” The words settled heavily in the room. I lowered my gaze just in time to hide the flicker of disgust that rose within me. But I still kept my act and forced my shoulders to tremble faintly, playing into the role he had unknowingly stepped into. Mine. My foot! “Pl… please, Young Master Xavier, you can’t,” I let my voice tremble as my fingers clutched the hem of his shirt, holding onto it like it was the only thing keeping me steady. I made sure my breathing stayed uneven and fragile. “She is right,” June stepped forward, again pretending to have a calm tone as her hand subtly gestured toward Melinda, who began to move inside quietly, thinking no one would notice. “Let’s not make a scene here. We will just talk to her husband. He will take care of it.” How pretentious. The thought rose cold and bitter in my mind as I kept my expression weak, because June knew… She knew everything I had been through, the things I had endured in silence. Letting Derek “handle it” would not solve anything; it would only give him another reason to hurt me, to break me further, and yet she still said it so easily. “Please…” I wiped at my tears with trembling fingers, turning my face away just enough so Xavier wouldn’t see too clearly. “I do not want you to do anything.” I tried to sound firm, but the sting on my cheek was real, the sharp cut left by Melinda’s ring was throbbing painfully, making my breath hitch for real this time. “This is why…” I inhaled deeply, letting my fingers slowly loosen from his shirt as I gathered myself. “This is why I asked you to let me go.” My voice came out softer than before. “What’s that supposed to mean?” Xavier turned to me quickly, panic was visibly flickering across his face as his grip tightened, like he thought I would slip away if he let go. “I don’t want to leave you. So what, you are a mess, you are mine and—” Not that again. I’m not his and will never be! “You said it yourself,” I cut him off before he could go any further, lifting my gaze just enough to meet his eyes for a brief moment. “I am a mess, and you are from the pack leader’s family, and I… on the other hand…” My lips trembled faintly as I forced the words out. “I am nothing more than a slave. How do you suppose we stand together in front of everyone?” I paused for a moment, letting the silence stretch just enough to make it feel heavy, before I slowly looked at him again. “And as long as I live here, we will never have a future together,” I added, my voice quieter now, almost as if I had accepted something I couldn’t change. “I do not want people to call you weak just because you have me standing beside you, so… find someone equal to your status and let go of me.” “Why are you saying all this?” Xavier pinched between his brows in frustration. “You have never once complained to me about it, but why now?” “I never complained because… I thought we’d never come this far. And given you power, you can’t even help me get my freedom. So… I’d just suffer here alone rather than making you suffer with me.” I wasn’t saying all that just to let Xavier leave me. I wanted to use him. I needed him to take pity on me and on my situation and help me escape this hell. I needed to fill his mind that as long as I was bound by Derek and his family, we would never be anything to each other. And if he was desperate enough to get the inheritance, for which he ended my life… He must comply with me. He. Must! “What’s going on here!?” Derek’s voice echoed in the hall as he walked out with his wife and instantly greeted Xavier. “Mr. Hunter, please to have you here,” he said as he glared at me, probably telling me to fuck off! “Do not give me that humbleness!” Xavier turned toward him with a furious look on his face. “Is this how you treat your people? Beating them until they bleed?” Derek was taken aback by Xavier’s reaction, while I was smiling in my head as I had successfully manipulated this bastard to dance to my tune.Adira's POV"Xavier, you truly needn't reprimand Sir Derek on my account," I murmured, trying to act as fragile as I could.I shifted my weight, carefully tilting my head so the harsh light of the living room caught the darkening bruise on my cheek. "A slave’s life is defined by such weight. It is a familiarity I have long since accepted."I watched the muscle in Xavier’s jaw reset. The predatory stillness in his posture told me he was hooked."You are my mate, Adira," he declared, his voice a low rumble that vibrated through the floorboards. "The era of your servitude ended the moment I found you. Within these walls, you will never be a slave again.""She was purchased for this household; she is our property," Malinda countered. Her voice was sharp, cutting through the air like a blade.Xavier didn't just speak; he growled. It was a visceral, animalistic sound that made the air feel heavy around us.He stepped forward, his fangs catching the light as a warning of the power he held."Y

Adira's POV"Ahh!"I fell on the floor, blinded by the lights of the car. It was my mistake to run without looking. It was suffocating for me to even stand in front of Xavier, the man who killed me."Miss, are you alright?" the panicked driver asked me.I looked at the fresh bruise that appeared on my palm when I felt a shadow loom over me. My eyes widened seeing the man sitting in the car that I almost forgot about, the man whom I killed because Xavier wanted me to— Alessandro Hunter.‘How can he be alive? Wait! I have returned in time. He was alive at that time. Gosh! Why do I have to meet him?’I hid my face using my hand, and I quickly stood up. “I am fine. I have to go now.” I managed to walk past when a hand pulled my arm.My breath caught in my throat as I stopped blinking. It was Alessandro, and his crimson eyes met mine. The murderous look in his eyes made my heart race as if it would come out of my chest. When did he come out of the car? I thought as I lowered my head, still
Adira's POV The radiant white light suddenly blurred my vision. I felt something heavy stuck in my head when I heard a familiar voice. “Will you marry me, Adira?” ‘What's happening? Where am I?’ I thought as I looked toward the source of the voice. It was Xavier. He was on his knees with a tiny diamond ring in a plain box, while I held a bouquet of flowers.‘Am I not dead yet? Or am I recalling everything from the beginning? Do people feel like this as they see their entire life before dying?’I was still in my thoughts when June came from behind and nudged me a little. “Hey, Xavier is asking you something.”I turned to look at June, and that confirmed that I wasn't in a dreamy sequence of my death. Everyone was smiling at me, making me recall that it was the same day when Xavier proposed to me.“Adira, what happened to you?” June again questioned me, this time holding my arm. “Are you going to make your mate wait on his knees for you for an entire day?”I closed my eyes for a mome
Adira’s POVThe driver didn’t answer. His hands tightened on the steering wheel.“Answer me!” My voice cracked as panic started crawling up my spine. “This isn’t the way!”The speed of the car increased, and the engine roared louder.“Stop the car!” I screamed, grabbing the handle and trying to pull it open, but it wouldn’t budge. “Stop the car right now! I want to get out!”My pulse raced violently as I tried again, my fingers shaking against the locked door.“Stop!” I howled. But no matter how many times I shouted, no matter how desperate my voice became, he didn’t respond.Instead, he pressed harder on the accelerator. The car sped forward into the empty stretch of road, swallowing my screams.Suddenly, the car came to a halt with a screech as the driver exited the car and came around to open the door for me, as he dragged me out of the car.“Do not try to do anything to me!” I said firmly. “Xavier will kill you for touching his future Luna.”My voice choked as my body shook with f
Adira’s POVI stared at my reflection in the mirror for a little longer as the girl looking back at me didn’t feel real.Dressed in a white wedding gown that hugged my body perfectly before flowing down in soft layers around my feet, I looked… so pretty.I swallowed. Was that really me?I’d always been an ugly duckling who lacked everything from backgrounds to parents. But today…Today, not only did I look pretty, but I was about to have a family with the person whom I loved the most.“I can’t believe I’m this pretty,” I whispered under my breath, shyly, as heat crept up my cheeks.“Get it together, Adira,” I muttered, gently tapping both sides of my face. “Don’t start crying before the ceremony even begins.”I inhaled slowly, trying to calm the storm building inside my chest. After all the suffering, the nights I thought I wouldn’t survive, I was standing here, about to marry the future Alpha of the Shadow Hunters Pack.Xavier Hunter.Even thinking his name made something in me softe
