Lucien

I sat behind my desk, with an untouched pile of papers in front of me. My pen hovered uselessly in my hand, my gaze was fixed on the papers but the words were a blur.

Leaving Elara back at the estate had felt wrong the moment I stepped out the door. Hell, I’d almost told her to get dressed and come with me.

But bringing her to work and pretending I could focus with her scent in the same room? I don't think so.

And it was exactly why I had left so early this morning, so I could complete all this paperwork and get back to her as soon as possible.

I just wanted to be near her. Even if she still looked at me with those guarded eyes. Even if she was still scared. I didn’t care. I’d given her enough time. More than I ever thought myself capable of.

Not being able to touch her since the day she arrived. It was torture. She was right there, under the same roof, and yet she felt miles away.

It also didn't help that I had been having a strange feeling for the past few min

ElaraI swear, I stopped breathing.Lucien stood in the doorway, his dark eyes locked on mine, looking like they would pierce my soul. The weight of his gaze sent a chill crawling down my spine, and I instinctively wrapped my arms around myself as the temperature in the room seemed to drop ten degrees.Seriously, is everyone in this house psychic now?I wanted to say it out loud. Make a joke. Ease the tension that was quickly suffocating me. But my mouth had gone dry.He should’ve stayed longer at work. At least when he was gone, I had time to think. I was able to avoid him this morning after last night’s… whatever. He left before I could even wake up. And now I had the sinking suspicion that he’d asked Caelum to play babysitter in his absence.“I have no idea what you guys are talking about,” I said, forcing a nervous laugh. “Who’s thinking of running?”Lucien stepped fully into the room, his movement was deliberately slow, like predator deciding if now was the time to pounce. He lo

Elara“So… he wants to bite me? Like actually bite me?” I asked again. “Yeah. Teeth and all.” Caelum replied.Wow. He didn't even blink.I slumped back on the couch, running a hand through my hair. I just can’t wrap my head around it. Last night was… intense. When Lucien said he wanted to bite me, I thought he was joking. But no. He meant it, literally. I mean, who willingly lets someone sink their teeth into their neck? That too for someone who is scared of needles. I was the girl who once almost fainted during a routine vaccine.“Okay, but… what exactly is Lucien?" I mean, I know they’re not normal humans but what exactly? I don’t even know what I’m dealing with here.“Lucien is… complicated. He’s a tribrid—a mix of three different species.” He explained.“Three?” I repeated, confused. “Like what?”He shrugged. “That will be better explained by him.”"Alright… so what about you?”“I’m a werewolf. Well, technically a Lycan, a royal werewolf.”“A Lycan?” I blinked, trying to wrap my

ElaraThe drive back to the estate didn’t take long. I ignored Lucien’s curious gaze on me, getting out of the car. He's been pressing me for answers but I ignored him.Caelum hadn't say anything to Lucien even though he saw saw the whole thing. He also didn't understand what was going on and I wasn't ready to let out. Yet. I walked into the mansion, with Lucien and Caelum followed behind, but I didn’t wait. Auron was already asleep since we arrived late. I made my way up the staircase, needing space.I didn’t even bother turning on the lights in my room. The moonlight spilling through the windows was enough. Tossing my clutch on the bed, I kicked off my heels and sank into the edge of the mattress. My head was buzzing and what I needed right now was someone who already spoke my language. Who knew the weight of my past without me having to explain every piece.I reached for my phone and scrolled through my contacts until I found her name. She picked up on the third ring.“Girl, I’v

Author's pov“Dad!” Seraphine’s voice rang sharply through the study. Lord Wycliffe, one of the elder council members, barely lifted his gaze from the stack of documents in front of him. His pen stilled for only a moment before he sighed and looked up at his daughter. “What is it now, Sera?”“You have to do something,” she snapped. “Lucien. He’s giving his attention to someone else.”“And why, exactly, is that my concern?” Lord Wycliffe arched a brow.Seraphine stepped forward, the heels of her shoes tapping against the marble floor. “Because he was supposed to be mine. We had an understanding. You promised me he’d be within reach once the alliance talks resumed.”“I promised you opportunity,” he said flatly. “What you do with it is your responsibility. Clearly, you’re losing grip.”“I’m not losing anything,” she snapped. “That girl, she’s the problem. She’s manipulative, probably using her looks to reel Lucien and Caelum in. And they’re falling for it. Both of them.”“She doesn’t b

Elara“Well, well… if it isn’t the runaway princess.”I froze. My fingers tightened around the glass i was holding. I didn’t need to turn around to know who it was. The voice had haunted too many years of my life. Chloe.Of course she would be here. Why didn't I think of that? She walked toward us with slow, deliberate steps, her heels clicking against the marble floor. The same fake smile I’d grown up despising stretched across her face like it had been painted on.“Oh my!” she gasped dramatically, placing a hand over her heart like she’d just discovered something shocking. “Mr. Draven, it’s such an honour to meet you.”Her tone was sweet, too sweet. I'd be a fool not to know what she was playing at.“Chloe,” I said flatly. She tilted her head, eyes glinting with amusement. “I didn't expect to see you here.”I gave her a tight-lipped smile. “That makes two of us.”I saw Caelum giving me the 'whats going on and who is she look', then I gave him the 'i'll explain later look'. “I al

ElaraI stared at the reflection in the full-length mirror, barely recognizing the woman looking back at me.Was that… me?My eyes were rimmed in soft gold and deep brown shadows, bringing out the flecks of hazel, while my lips were painted in a glossy soft rose shade.A floor-length gown of midnight blue silk hugged my frame. The neckline was embroidered with tiny crystals, catching the light with every movement I made. It wrapped over one shoulder in an asymmetrical drape. A delicate slit ran up the side. My hair had been pulled into a loose, low chignon with soft tendrils left out to frame my face. “She’s stunning,” the lead stylist, Dior, whispered to one of the assistants behind me. “Mr. Thorne will arrive any minute now,” she added, signaling her team. The assistants gathered their makeup kits and quietly left the room, leaving me alone. The quiet was soon broken by the sound of the door opening. Lucien and Caelum stepped inside. Lucien’s eyes widened slightly as he took in
