Her Vengeance, His Hidden Obsession

" Miss Lexi, all the paperwork for the transfer has been processed. It just needs both your signatures." Elena said, her tone unsatisfactory.

" Just wait for my call, El."

The clock chimed 11 pm and Lexi smiled.

Tomorrow was her two-year anniversary with Ethan Blackwood. She couldn't wait to finally surprise Ethan with what she had planned at exactly 12 am. Even if the initial agreement had been five years, Elena had been able to speed up the process to two years after much persuasion.

Before Ethan left for the bathroom, his cold face had lingered for a while and Lexi just smiled faintly, getting used to his cold expression.

" Try and get some rest, Lexi. You looked stressed," Ethan told her, his voice warming through her heart.

She nodded, resting on the spacious bed.

Even after two years, Ethan was still cold and detached but he had never given her cause to regret her decision. He had been faithful towards her all through their years of being married.

Ethan's family had faced bankruptcy two years ago and he was on the verge of suicidal. Even his childhood sweetheart, Sophia Mendez had left him at his lowest point with the excuse of studying abroad.

If not for her inheritance left by her mother, Ethan wouldn't have revived his dying company. Neither would they have gotten married. Although it was just a part of her inheritance, it was enough to revive his company.

Ethan Blackwood had been her crush during their college days but he hardly noticed her. Lexi had always admired him from a distance with his group of friends, including Sophia.

After his company was revived, Ethan proposed to her.

" Ethan, I can love you for the both of us. The only thing I can't tolerate is betrayal. Can you swear to be loyal and faithful?"

Those were Lexi's answer to his proposal then, and Ethan had vowed to be faithful to her and gradually learn to love her too.

Lexi's friends had strongly opposed their union then but it's been two years and she had finally proven everyone wrong about Ethan. She also had some good news to share with him after tonight.

As Lexi's cheeks continued burning up with the lingering feelings, her eyes caught a phone on the bedside table which had been vibrating for a while.

It seemed Ethan had left his phone. It buzzed over and over, the screen lighting up in the dark. Lexi wanted to silence it so she could sleep a little while, so she picked it up and a name lit the screen.

Sophia Mendez, his childhood friend.

“I can't wait to feel you inside me again. I miss you.”

Just then, another popped up.

"Hubby, I have already booked the suite at the New View resort for tomorrow after the event and I already bought that new lingerie you said you liked. Can't wait for tomorrow."

Hubby? Langston Resort? Wasn't that the resort her father left for her alongside the rest of her mother's inheritance that she wanted to give him as their second wedding anniversary?

For a second, Lexi couldn’t breathe. Her mind tried to rationalise, to find any other explanation. Maybe Sophia just sent this to mess with her head, maybe it was a mistake...

Maybe she just wanted Lexi to think like this or maybe he actually....

Too many 'maybes.'

Lexi couldn't think further. She sat in silence, her hand trembling as she set the phone back down. When he came in minutes later, whistling softly, towel draped around his neck, she didn’t ask.

She just watched him pick up his phone, glance at it, and smiled. In their years of marriage, this man had been cold to her, always distant and she had just assumed it was just his character.

But here he was smiling at a text from his childhood sweetheart.

An adulterous text message!

" How are the arrangements for the anniversary tomorrow?" Ethan asked, tucking himself in the bed.

Swallowing her emotions, Lexi replied," It's all been arranged."

" Good. Let's sleep then..."

Lexi hesitated for a second before asking him, her voice subtle," Ethan, do you regret this marriage?"

Silence, then the harsh impatient voice." Stop throwing tantrums, Lexi. I wouldn't be here tonight if I regret it. You will always be my only wife. I will never betray you."

Never betray you...

Lexi bit down her beating heart, trying to stop the piercing ache. Slowly, she lay on the bed too, hoping all of this was just her own illusion.

But deep down, her trust was slowly being shattered.

She brought out her phone and sent a message to her Elena.
