Ivana's POV

After my mother's death, I had lived every single wish of hers by making sure that Ava and her father paid for what they did to us. I had been so successful, in fact, I sent every achievement to her in the form of a letter. I was done writing this one and was just about to light it up as I usually did then stayed back to watch the ashes go up to heaven, but my phone buzzed distracting me midway.

I raised a brow in surprise on seeing the name.

“Can we talk?”

“Talk? Is Ethan okay–”

“Cut the act. Everybody knows you were only using him to get to Ava,” his dismissal was rude and sharp.

I took a moment to ponder on how to reply to this surprising invite.

“How soon do we need to talk?”

“In a few minutes time if you don't mind.”

Perfect.

“I'm sorry to disappoint you, Richard, but I'm dealing with more serious issues and won't be able to see you. How about by this time tomorrow?” I kept my voice as low and innocent as I could.

“Alright then.”

I sent my letters up to my mum and

Ethan's POVHe just sat as if giving me enough time to ponder on his words and take my words back, but it was such a ridiculous thing because I had cut ties with Ivana and I meant everything I said to her. “Listen, this is just going to be business and I don't expect you to jump into agreement quickly considering everything that has happened–”“No, Richard. You seriously don't get it, do you? I am done with everything that has to do with Ivana. Besides, what would Ava think of me if she learns that I went back to Ivana? There's something called actions meeting up with words, Richard. Let us assume that I accepted her offer right away. How do I make her believe that I'm deeply sorry for what I did to her?”“You're being quite emotional with this, Ethan. I've told you before and I'll tell you again. You've lost Ava for good. The fact that you apologised doesn't mean she has to forgive you or accept you back. It just eases your burden and lets you work freely, knowing that you've made p

Ethan's POV I watched her back fade into the distance that separated before dragging my whole being to my car. I didn't know what exactly I was expecting after the night of the launch, but this wasn't in the list. I didn't do what I did in exchange for her kindness, I just hoped it'll make her not grow her hatred for me, but today, I was proven wrong. She not only hates me now, but would do anything to see me fall. How did I get there with her? How did I stir up her hatred this much that her actions now had a close resemblance to Ivana as if they had switched roles amicably? “What did I bring upon myself?” I muttered without my palm forcefully placed against my forehead. I stared into the emptiness before me and wondered what more I should expect. “...I'll be taking everything that is rightfully mine.” Those were the only words that echoed in my head, as I pulled over to go back home. Her rock hard eyes, calm breaths and steady words held something similar to when she promised to

Ava's POV “Then I am so disappointed that you claim to be this close with my father and my family yet still call him family.“Ava, try to understand–”“Well, I want you to understand one thing, and that is: he was the one who threw divorce papers at me at my father's funeral to go be with his lover. The only thing that would have validated him being family was if he successfully married Ivana, and we both know that he failed at it, too, so please, wrap all these talks up. The only family is me, and if you truly mean what you said, then your loyalty should follow me wherever I go.”My words sliced the air as sharp as I intended for it to. Ethan's gaze was buried to the floor, and though he wasn't crying or anything, his quietness only radiated the humiliation he felt.Martins was in complete shock at first, but with time, it was as though he paused and began to reflect on everything that had really happened after my father's death. I smiled when I got him at the exact spot I wanted h

Ava's POVNothing was as questionable as James wanting to send a proposal to Ethan. What was it now? Was he feeling pity for his old friend, or does he just have a habit of always interfering in my plans even though he meant no harm? Ugh! Whatever it was, I needed a quick distraction from it. In summary, I don’t even want it to happen.I made use of the break period to visit a restaurant. Hopefully, Martins will remember the quick schedule and be there on time.“Leaving work fast?” Rosalie cut in as I opened my car.“I just want to get lunch elsewhere. I'll be back soon.”I got into my car immediately so that I wouldn't provide the room for more vulnerable questions. She looked somewhat puzzled, and I knew that a lot of questions would be running through her mind. However, I was helpless to her situation.I got to the restaurant early enough, hoping to make a few arrangements with other clients only to find Martins with Ethan.“Good day, Mr Martins,” I greeted with my brows slightly a

Ava's POV“Just go home,” I sighed, walking past her to James’s office.“But Ava, your–”“Go home, Cordelia,” my voice echoed through the hallway.“Come in,” James responded after I knocked the second time.I couldn't help but squint my eyes towards Peter the moment I walked in. I could feel that the atmosphere around us had changed, and Peter wasn't even looking me in the eyes.“Excuse me, boss,” he whispered and vanished like wind.I swallowed hard, choosing to believe that he wasn't snitching on me even though there was no reason for his loyalty to shift to me.“You look tense, Miss Ava. Is everything okay?”I would be lying to say that I didn't envy his kind of composure. I mean, reading him was so difficult that knowing how to respond or what to respond to his questions became another war.“Uhm… I'm fine. I just…” I trailed off, placing the envelope on his desk, hoping he'd understand what I came for immediately without having me explain in detail.“I got a call,” he said simply,
