LOGINCHAPTER 3
Amber Desiree’s POV
The house was cold. Not in temperature, but in silence.
I sat on the couch with a blanket draped over my legs. A drama series was playing on the TV, but I wasn’t really watching. My eyes were fixed on the clock.
9:28 PM.
Lorenzo still wasn’t home. Again.
My gaze drifted toward the kitchen, where the plate of food I’d prepared for him earlier sat untouched. His favorite—garlic butter steak with red wine. It had gone cold an hour ago.
I sighed softly and turned off the TV.
I was about to stand up to put the food in the fridge when the lights by the front door flicked on.
Lorenzo walked in, briefcase in hand, coat slung over his arm, his expression calm and unreadable as if he hadn’t kept me waiting the entire night.
“Did you eat?” I asked quietly, my voice careful, gentle.
He paused mid-step, barely glancing in my direction. “I had dinner with a client.”
“Oh.”
I nodded faintly, even though disappointment stung in my chest. He could’ve at least messaged me. Just one text, so I wouldn’t have spent hours waiting or cooking something he wouldn’t touch.
He walked past me without another word, like I was nothing more than part of the furniture. No glance. No acknowledgment. Only silence, and the faint scent of his cologne lingering as he disappeared down the hallway.
I stood there, frozen for a moment, before letting out a shaky sigh.
Lately, that was all he ever did. Come home late, offer empty answers, and lock himself in his office until morning.
Sometimes I wondered if he’d already forgotten that we were married.
THE NEXT MORNING, I woke up feeling nauseous.
A wave of dizziness hit me so suddenly that I had to clutch my stomach and run to the bathroom. I threw up until my body trembled, then I leaned weakly against the sink, staring at my pale reflection in the mirror.
It wasn’t the first time this happened.
For the past few days, I’d been feeling lightheaded, and my appetite came and went in odd ways. I barely touched dinner last night, and now my body felt like it was betraying me.I gripped the sink, my pulse racing. I wasn’t sure how much longer I could hide my pregnancy.
That night, I was already getting ready for bed when Lorenzo walked into the room. He was still in his work suit, his tie slightly loosened.
He didn’t even glance at me as he tossed his coat onto the chair and began unbuttoning his dress shirt.
I looked at the wall clock.
10:00 PM.
“You’re late again,” I said softly.
“Meetings,” he muttered, walking toward the bathroom.
I clenched my blanket, the words spilling out before I could stop them. “Do you… ever wonder why we’re still doing this?”
He paused, his hand on the doorknob, but didn’t look back. “Doing what?”
“This.” I gestured vaguely around the room. “Pretending like we’re not married. Or worse… pretending that we are.”
Lorenzo finally turned his gaze toward me, his green eyes sharp and distant. “I didn’t ask for this marriage, Amber.”
“And you think I did?” I shot back softly.
Silence filled the room, heavy and suffocating.
I lay down and turned away from him before the tears could fall. I didn’t want him to see me cry. I didn’t have the strength to keep fighting someone who wouldn’t even look me in the eye.
He said nothing. The only sound was the quiet click of the bathroom door closing behind him.
I shut my eyes tightly and took a shaky breath, wrapping my arms around my belly as I whispered to the little life growing inside me—the only piece of warmth left in this cold house.
CHAPTER 9Amber Desiree’s POVI drove straight to my brother’s company. Once I arrived, I parked carefully and stepped out of the car. The sight of the familiar building greeted me, the bold letters Villarreal gleaming proudly at the top.I entered the lobby and headed straight to the elevator, pressing the button to the top floor where my brother’s office was located. A few employees rode with me, and I noticed how they glanced my way with polite smiles, greeting me with recognition. I returned their smiles warmly. They got off on their respective floors, and soon the elevator stopped at my destination. His secretary, Selene, greeted me as soon as I stepped out. I smiled at her before walking toward my brother’s office. The moment I opened the door, my brother lifted his head from the documents he was reading. His usually serious expression softened instantly when his eyes met mine. He stood up from his chair without hesitation.“Bree,” he said softly, the same endearment he and our
CHAPTER 8Amber Desiree’s POVLorenzo doesn’t want a baby… specifically, not with me.I’m not the woman he wants to be the mother of his children. Those words kept echoing in my mind like a knife repeatedly twisting in my chest.I cried myself to sleep that night. It hurt... so much. Not just for me, but for the tiny life growing inside me. Because now, I realized… neither of us was wanted by Lorenzo. The man we expected to love and protect us.This isn’t the kind of marriage I dreamed of. This isn’t the life I wanted. I never imagined myself becoming an unwanted wife. But life didn’t give me much of a choice. And the cruelest part of it all... it made me fall for the one man I should’ve never loved.I don’t know what to do anymore. Lorenzo doesn’t want to have a baby yet. So what about mine? What about our child? Will it remain a secret forever? After hearing what he said, I’ve lost the courage to tell him about my pregnancy. My baby doesn’t deserve that kind of rejection before it’s
CHAPTER 7Amber Desiree’s POVI fell silent. Now that his first love is back… what happens next? Will they rekindle what they once had? Is that why Vivian sent food to his office—to win him back? I’m sure this isn’t the first time she’s tried to reach out to Lorenzo. And honestly, I think Lorenzo still has feelings for her too. After all, he still keeps their photo here in his office, even though he doesn’t even have a single photo of us displayed. And as they say, love is sweeter the second time around. How can I possibly compete with that? I’m just his wife on paper. Lorenzo doesn’t love me. The only thing I’m holding on to now… is the baby growing inside me.But will that really be enough to stop him from going back to Vivian? No… I don’t want to use my child like that. That would be cruel.I glanced at Lorenzo, who was now busy with his laptop. He was wearing rimless glasses, his brows slightly furrowed as his fingers moved swiftly across the keyboard. He’s already undeniably good
CHAPTER 6Amber Desiree’s POV“What the hell, Lorenzo?!”I stared at him in disbelief when I saw that he actually reported Byeon Woo-seok’s video. What on earth is his problem?!He ignored me completely. He just turned around and walked toward his desk like nothing happened.I couldn’t help but roll my eyes. Attention-seeker!I dropped back onto the couch and shifted my focus back to my phone. Not long after, there was a knock on the door and Ethan stepped inside.“Sir, someone sent a food delivery for you,” he said, showing a paper bag with the logo of a well-known michelin restaurant. The rich aroma of the food immediately spread across the room, and the second it reached my nose, I clamped my hand over it, fighting the urge to gag. What the hell is that smell?!I glanced toward Lorenzo and saw him staring at Ethan, brows furrowed.“Who sent it?”Ethan flicked his eyes toward me for a split second before answering.“From Vivian Lee, Sir.”The air shifted.I watched Lorenzo freeze in
CHAPTER 5Amber Desiree’s POVEthan excused himself, leaving me alone with Lorenzo in his office.Lorenzo walked toward me, loosening his tie slightly. “What are you doing here?” he asked, his voice as cold as ever.My eyes followed his movements. “I brought your lunch,” I answered simply. He stopped by the couch across from mine. “You didn’t let me know you were coming.”I only shrugged, opening the paper bag and pulling out the Tupperware with his meal. He sat down, the glass table between us. When I glanced up, he was already watching me, his eyes unreadable and steady. I couldn’t help but feel self-conscious under his gaze. I wasn’t used to having his attention on me. Moments like this were rare. But in a strange way, I felt a small spark of relief because at least he didn’t tell me to leave. With a tiny smile, I opened the containers and placed it in front of him. “I cooked it myself. Special beef caldereta.”He spared me a brief glance but said nothing. He reached for the rice,
CHAPTER 4Amber Desiree’s POVI was feeling bored at home, so I decided to cook and bring lunch to Lorenzo at his office. My car had just been released from the auto shop after cleaning, so at least I didn’t have to book a ride this time. I was now on my way to Lorenzo’s company. It didn’t take long before I finally arrived. After carefully parking my car, I stepped out and looked up at the towering building before me. It stretched high into the sky—modern, sleek, and unmistakably luxurious. At the very top, bold silver letters spelled DEVLIN.Just from the exterior, you could already tell this was a company owned by old money and power.I walked inside and headed straight to the elevator. The guards and receptionists greeted me politely on my way in. They already knew who I was since I’d been here several times before.Once inside the elevator, I pressed the button for the top floor—the executive level where Lorenzo’s office was. When I arrived, the receptionist behind the front desk
