“Anna! Where are you, you wicked girl?!” Cindy shouted.
The harsh, booming voice sent a wave of panic crashing through my chest. I was in the middle of feeding the chickens in the yard, freezing mid-motion as the dread set in. Cindy always needed something from me, and it never ended well.
The moment she spotted me, she stormed over and, without a single word of warning, struck me hard across my left cheek. The brutal impact shocked me, causing the container of chicken feed to slip from my grip and spill onto the dirt.
“Give me back my earring, you thief!” she shrieked, her voice boiling with a rage that intensified the terror already gripping my chest.
“I—I don’t know what you’re talking ab—” Before I could even finish, she lunged forward, twisting her fists into my hair and yanking it back violently.
“Ow! Cindy! That hurts! Please, let go!” I sobbed, tears stinging my eyes from the agonizing pull.
They trembled on my lashes, threatening to spill over at any second.
“Oh, so you're fighting back now, huh?! Hand over my stuff, Anna!” she screamed, still demanding an item I had never even touched, let alone stolen.
She rained slaps and scratches down on my face and head. I threw my arms up to shield myself, but there was no escaping her long, sharp nails. A fiery sting tore into my skin as she dug deep into my arms.
“Don't play innocent with me, Anna! Give me back my earring right now, or I swear I’ll tell Mother!” she threatened, her voice shaking with malice.
Before I could even attempt to answer, she delivered a vicious shove that sent me tumbling backward—straight into the filthy, reeking pig trough beside the chicken coop.
My chest heaved in rapid, shallow gasps, a suffocating mix of panic and humiliation choking me. I swallowed hard, wincing as I tried to push myself up, but Cindy closed the distance instantly and struck my face again.
The blow sent a sharp throb of pain through my cheek and split my lip. A metallic, copper taste bloomed in my mouth—blood.
I couldn't hold back the tears anymore; they streamed freely down my face.
She grabbed a fistful of my hair once more, forcing my head back at an agonizing angle as she spat out words that made my silent weeping break into a sob. “That’s what you deserve, thief! Why won’t you just give me back my stuff? You wouldn’t be getting hurt if you’d just return it! Or do you like getting hurt, Anna? Huh? Are you a masochist?! A masochist?!”
“Cindy! What is going on here?!”
“Oh my god! What happened here, sister?!”
The sharp voices belonged to Helena, my stepmother—the biological mother of Cindy and her sister, Wendy.
I froze as their eyes fell on me. There was no sympathy in Helena’s gaze, only a quick, sharp flicker of disgust. Wendy’s lip curled in open revulsion.
“Eww, Cindy, why are you near her?!” Wendy shrieked, pulling her sister back. “She’s sitting in the pigs’ trough! Ugh, it’s so vile! Get away from her before you catch something!”
I could only feel a rush of relief when Cindy finally let go of me, leaving me abandoned on the filthy ground—humiliated and broken.
“What is the meaning of this, Cindy? And why is Anna sitting in the dirt?!”
Cindy glanced at me first, and I caught the faint, malicious smirk curling on her lips. But the moment she turned to face Helena, her expression morphed instantly, transforming into a mask of fear and distress.
“She stole my things, Mother!” Cindy cried, her voice trembling as if she were the victim. “I was only trying to take back what’s mine, but she refuses to return it!”
I froze, my words caught in my throat. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing—Cindy lying so easily, so convincingly, as though the truth had never mattered.
“What?!” Helena’s sharp voice cracked through the air. When I looked up, her eyes were blazing with fury, directed entirely at me.
The fear I thought had eased for a moment surged back into my chest, tightening around me like a vice. Her glare pierced through me, stripping away every ounce of strength I had left.
I lowered my gaze to my ruined, dirty clothes, unable to bring myself to look at Helena. Deep down, I already knew she would take Cindy’s side—after all, she was her real daughter.
I had no right to hope she wouldn’t believe the lies.
“Oh my God! Is it your missing earring, sister? The sapphire one? I think I saw Anna with it the other day.”
At Wendy’s words, a fresh wave of dread washed over me.
I forced myself up from where I was sitting. I couldn’t just stay down and let them frame me for something I never did.
“No! I didn’t take Cindy’s earring, Wendy! I didn’t steal it!” I shouted, desperate to defend myself—only to fall silent as Helena’s sharp voice cut through the air.
“Enough!”
I bit my lip, trembling with a volatile mix of anger, fear, and humiliation. My body shook as the sisters’ accusations echoed in my ears, silencing any further defense.
“You two, go to your rooms and check your belongings. Keep your things safe,” Helena ordered her daughters before turning her cold gaze back to me. “And you, Anna…”
I couldn’t lift my eyes to meet hers, terrified of the verdict. Was she going to punish me for a crime I didn’t commit?
“Get ready for lunch. After that we’re going to talk.”
That was all she said before turning away.
My hands felt numb from the residual tension. When I finally looked up at the sisters, I caught them grinning at me, their eyes communicating a cruel message:
You deserve this. You deserve all of it.
“Just wait for your punishment, Anna. Tell us later what you and Mother talked about, alright? Thieves like you always get what they deserve. Don’t be a thief, you know? That’s bad. The Moon Goddess will never accept someone like you—someone who’s already rotten at heart. Come on, let’s leave this pathetic little thief behind.”
Wendy’s taunting voice cut through me like a blade as she pulled Cindy away, her sister smiling triumphantly at my misery.
I couldn’t bring myself to say a word in response. It was as if time itself had stopped. My throat tightened, and I knew my tears were breaking free again no matter how hard I tried to hold them back.
My chest felt unbearably heavy with the weight of resentment and the raw sting of their cruelty.
Did I really deserve to be treated this way? Was this truly my fate—trapped under the thumb of a stepmother who never wanted me, and two sisters who only saw me as less than nothing?
Was it because I was born an Omega? Was that why they branded me a weak, pitiful thief?
But I didn’t steal anything. I never would.
So why? Why did it always have to be me?
Anna Noelle’s POV***It was finally the day of the Mating Ball. I couldn't contain my bubbling excitement—it was going to be held tonight.I had been dreaming about this celebration for days, and the joy in my heart simply wouldn't fade."You're smiling today, Anna," Aura teased in my mind as I finished plating the food for the beta servants to take up to the mansion.I shook my head. "No, I'm not. You're probably just seeing things," I whispered back.Chasing away the stray thoughts, I offered a silent prayer to the Moon Goddess that the gathering at Silvermoon Claw tonight would go off without a hitch. After tidying up the kitchen, I hurried back upstairs to retrieve the dress I intended to wear to the Mating Ball. But that bright, hopeful feeling instantly shattered into panic when Wendy's shrieks echoed from downstairs."Anna! Anna! Where are you, you wretch! Show yourself!" Her loud screech made me jump, followed closely by the sound of a plate shattering below. I dropped the dre
Lucian SIlvermoon’s POV***“Ohh, Lucian!” Delilah moaned, breathless against my lips as we kissed hungrily.I captured her audacious red lips with my own, a low growl rumbling in my chest as I punished her for disobeying my strict rule: never come to the pack house without telling me first.Yet here she was, waiting for me on the second floor like a dangerous temptation I couldn't simply ignore. My calloused hand wrapped firmly around her full breast, my fingers kneading and rolling her hardened nipple through the fabric. I watched the dark, intoxicating pleasure wash over her face, feeling a surge of dominant satisfaction.“Do you like that? Huh?” I growled against her mouth, watching her eyes flutter shut and her lips part in a silent plea for more.Feeling the unbearable tightness straining against the fabric of my trousers, I wasted no time. I spun her around, pressing her face firmly against the heavy wood of my bedroom door, and shoved her hips back so she let out a sharp gasp
Anna Noelle's POV•••The following morning, I rose early and went straight to the kitchen to prepare breakfast for the family. My hands trembled as I cooked, haunted by the thought of what Helena said to me the night before. That there’s no mate would choose someone like me… a weak omega.I know that. But is there really anything wrong with hoping that there's a mate waiting for me? That someone would choose me, even if I'm just a weak and lowly wolf... simply because I'm an omega. It hurts. But even so, I'm happy because despite being an omega, I was still invited to the upcoming Mating Ball.Lost in those thoughts of dreaming about my mate, I didn’t notice anyone entering the kitchen until a sharp, authoritative voice cut through the silence.“Anna.”I jerked my head up.Helena stood by the doorway, her expression cold and unreadable. The moment our eyes met, I quickly lowered my gaze. I didn’t have the courage to face the hatred burning in her stare.Even without looking at her, I
Anna Noelle’s POV•••The sharp sting in my cheek hadn't even begun to fade when Wendy’s voice rang out, demanding lunch. I wiped the mixture of dirt and tears from my face, forcing my trembling legs to stand. Apparently, being beaten in the mud wasn't enough to excuse me from my duties. In this house, I was still expected to serve. It still baffled me how drastically everything had changed. When my father first introduced Helena and her daughters to me, they were the very picture of warmth and kindness. But the moment my father took his last breath, their gentle facades shattered, revealing the vicious strangers lurking underneath. I had walked straight into a trap, blinded by their deceit. Why do I feel like a prisoner in my own home?“Anna! Where is our food?!” Wendy’s shrill voice echoed from the dining room.Startled, I hurried to the cramped downstairs bathroom. I splashed cold water over my split lip and the throbbing bruises on my arms, hastily pulling my worn sleeves down
