LOGINISABEL
I felt heavy exhaustion after traveling such a long distance just to reach the mansion where I was applying for work. I looked again at the card given to me by a man I had unexpectedly met while searching for a job. He offered me to apply at this exact address. I guess this must be the mansion? I quickly rang the bell outside the gate and waited for a moment. Soon, a man wearing a black polo shirt and trousers walked toward me. “Who are you?” “Hello, sir. I am Isabel Ramirez. I am here to apply as a nanny. Does Mr.—” “Come in. Enter,” the man replied right away as he opened the gate fully, tho I wasn’t even finished asking my question yet. He walked ahead while I followed closely behind. We crossed the wide grounds, which had an elegant fountain right in the middle, until we reached the pool area. Wow! This place is beautiful! “Have a seat here,” he said once we arrived. It really does look like a palace! “Thank you,” I answered, then sat down on the soft, comfortable chair. While waiting, I kept checking the card in my hand to make sure I had come to the right place. It was so unexpected..... after searching for so long, a job finally came looking for me! After a few moments, I frowned when I heard a child’s voice shouting from inside. “I hate you! Go away! I don’t like you! Leave me alone!” Wait..... is that the voice of the child I am supposed to take care of? Curious, I stood up and slowly peeked inside the mansion. I moved carefully so no one would catch me watching. In one corner, I saw a little girl standing with her hands on her hips, speaking rudely to an older woman in her fifties. “Kai, you cannot refuse to eat or study. Your father will scold me if he sees you—” “Go away! I hate you! I don’t need you here! And don’t you dare touch me! Your hands are dirty!” I noticed the nanny looked like she had run out of ways to calm the child down. “I will tell your father about this,” she simply said before walking away, leaving the stubborn little girl alone in the huge living room. Suddenly, I felt nervous. I had no experience taking care of children, so I wasn’t sure if I could really do this job properly. But how could I say no? The salary they offered was five figures a month, so I accepted immediately. “U-Uhh..... hi?” I spoke up, and the rude little girl turned to look at me right away. Maybe it was a mistake to say something? “Who are you?” she asked, raising an eyebrow, then walked closer with her hands still on her hips. “Are you applying to be my nanny? Well, I don’t want you!” I swallowed hard at how rude she was being. “If you are the one I have to look after, I don’t want this either! But what can I do? The pay is really good. So you have no choice but to accept me as your new nanny,” I replied, matching her attitude. She looked shocked, as if she didn’t expect me to answer back. “I will tell my Daddy not to hire you!” she shouted, then turned and ran deeper into the house. “Daddy! Daddy!.....” I just smirked at her, but then I saw the older woman return, followed by a man in his forties. Handsome..... Strong and well-built... And so charming..... Is he going to be my boss? “Daddy, I don’t like this new nanny! Please don’t hire her!” Hearing the child complain made me panic, worried that I might lose this great opportunity. I quickly stepped forward to explain myself. “Good morning, sir. Sorry for entering without waiting, but I just want to explain that I only spoke back to your daughter because she was being very rude. She needs to learn good manners, doesn’t she? I hope you won’t change your mind. I really, really need this job,” I said all in one breath. But he didn’t reply. Instead, he just stared blankly at my face. I felt embarrassed. Did I have dirt on my face? Was it wrong of me to explain myself? Was I going to lose this chance? “You’re hired.” His words stopped all my worrying thoughts. “P-Pardon?” “What?” “Sir?” The little girl and the former nanny asked at the same time, both surprised. “But we haven’t even had an interview yet—” “I said, you’re hired,” my boss repeated, his voice serious and cold. I didn’t know whether to feel happy or confused first. But I was so grateful. Finally, I had a job! “T-Thank you very much, sir!” I answered with a wide smile. “No! I don’t like her! No, Daddy!” the little girl protested, then ran quickly upstairs. Meanwhile, I hesitated to follow her because my boss was still staring straight at me. “U-Uhh..... w-what should I do next, sir?” I asked, feeling uncomfortable under his gaze. “E-Emily....” I frowned in confusion as I looked at him. He pulled a wallet-sized photograph from his pocket, glanced at it briefly, then back at me. “My name is Isabel. Isabel Ramirez,” I introduced myself. My name wasn’t Emily. Who was this Emily anyway? Ah, maybe that was the child’s name? I had no idea if he was going to say anything else, because he kept switching his gaze between my face and the picture he held. “Sir?” I called out again. That was when he finally snapped back to reality. “Show her everything and take her around the whole mansion,” he instructed the older woman. “Right away. Come along, Isabel,” the woman invited me, and we left my boss standing there. After walking a few steps, I heard him whisper softly from behind. “Is that you, Emily.... my love?”ISABELI woke up at four in the morning, getting myself and Kai’s things ready before the day began. As I worked, I glanced over at her sleeping soundly. Her words from last night came back to me, and my heart ached... I could feel how heavy it was for her, never having known or seen her mother.I let out a long, quiet sigh.Later, I helped the other maids set plates and cutlery on the long dining table. Everything was prepared, and Kai’s school bag was packed and ready too.“You know what? I really love cooking this kind of food. I’ve been trying out new recipes back home,” one maid said.“Same here. How about you, Isabel?” another asked. “What do you like to eat? What things do you enjoy.... or places you dream of visiting?”I smiled gently as I thought about it. “I eat almost anything, really. As for places, I’ve always wanted to see beaches and mountains. Anywhere beautiful and open. I’ve barely ever left our town before.”“Beaches sound amazing! Maybe after payday we can all go s
ALEXANDRO“Do you f*cking love her?!” I roared, repeating the question one last time. He held my gaze, unflinching... then answered clearly.“I do.”I froze.'I do...''I do...''I do...'The words he f*cking said echoed in my head, sharp and burning. My jaw tightened, my fists clenched so hard my knuckles turned white. I wanted nothing more than to smash his f*ckin face in.... but I held back.My rage, though that would not stay hidden.“In that case....” I said quietly, glancing over at my men. They understood instantly. They dragged a heavy metal drum forward and pried open the lid.“W-What are you going to do with me?!” Anthony screamed, terror finally breaking through his defiance. I gave him not even a flicker of mercy.“Taking you exactly where you belong,” I said coldly.“What do you mean?! L-Let me go!”“Go to hell, you lying piece of sh*t. Give my regards to the devil,” I told him, then turned and walked away.I didn’t listen to his pleas as they forced him inside the drum.
ISABEL“Nanny Isabel!”Kai jumped to her feet the moment she saw me and ran straight over, wrapping her arms tight around my legs.“I thought.... you left me for good,” she said quietly.“I would never do that to you,” I promised, stroking her hair and patting her back gently.“It’s so good to have you back.”I looked up to see sir Alex standing at the top of the stairs, hands in his pockets, a soft, warm smile on his face.“Daddy! I’m going to be so happy for my birthday now! Nanny Isabel is home!” Kai beamed up at him.“Birthday?” I asked in surprise.“She turns eleven this coming Wednesday,” sir Alex answered. I nodded slowly.“Come on, Nanny Isabel! I have so many new toys in my room! You can even sleep there if you want!” Kai tugged eagerly at my hand. I followed her gladly, desperate to escape the weight of Sir Alex’s gaze.I FINISHED WASHING the plates from our snack. Kai had fallen asleep long before I did.“Thank you.”I nearly jumped out of my skin. Sir Alex was standing rig
ISABELI moved to greet other mourners, but my eyes kept drifting toward Mama and sir Alex. They were talking quietly. Mama wiping tears from her eyes, while sir Alex listened calmly and spoke gently to soothe her.I let out a long breath. It was better this way, I told myself; having Mama keep him company meant I wouldn’t feel so awkward standing near him.“Isabel.”I turned at the sound of my name.“Anthony! It’s been so long! How are you?” I smiled at my childhood friend.“I’m doing fine. What about you? I’ve missed you ever since you left our town. We haven’t had time to catch up.... and then this happened, losing your Papa.”My smile turned sad as I looked toward his open casket. I missed him terribly.“That’s why I had to leave and find work—to help pay for his treatment. I never thought that after just a few weeks away, he would be gone,” I told him softly. He wrapped an arm around my shoulders and patted my back.“It hurts so much, but maybe it’s for the best? He’s not sufferi
ALEXANDROI was busy checking the papers when suddenly, I got a call from my driver. I quickly grabbed my phone and answered it.“I’ve dropped her off safely, Boss. I’m heading back to the mansion now,” my driver reported over the phone.“Someone told me that my daughter was crying nonstop. Didn’t Isabel say goodbye?” I asked sharply.“It seems she didn’t, sir. She mentioned Kai was still asleep, so she didn’t bother waking her. I also noticed she brought all her bags with her.”I gritted my teeth, my fists clenching tight. I f*cking knew exactly what this meant... Isabel had no intention of ever coming back.“Understood,” I just said, hanging up. I gripped my phone hard and dragged a hand over my face, burning with anger.I didn’t want to chase after her.... but she left me no choice. She does not get to walk away from me like this!I stood up immediately and headed for the parking lot. When I got inside my car, I started the engine and drove straight toward her home.AN HOUR LATER,
ISABELI went down to the ground floor to see who had come in. I was right, it was sir Alex. He leaned against the armrest of the sofa, his skin flushed and his whole body glistening with sweat.“Good evening, sir Alex. K-Kai has been looking for you since—” I cut myself short when he turned to look at me. I grew flustered, realizing right away that he had been drinking. Then I noticed it.... a faint smudge of red lipstick on his collar. My mind wandered, I could guess exactly where he had come from.“I’ll go get you some water,” I said, turning to leave.“D-Don’t bother,” he mumbled, making me stop in my tracks. When I looked back, he was staring straight into my eyes.I swallowed hard.“Alright, sir,” I answered softly.“Alright?” he repeated, his tone sharp with irritation. “Is that all you can say? Just ‘alright’?”Fear and confusion tangled in my chest. Had I said something wrong?“Pardon, sir? I don’t understand what you mean—”“How can you not understand? After all these years?
