Allison

I woke with my teeth clattering.

A cold so sharp that it stung my bones, crawled beneath my skin like tiny shards of ice, causing me to jitter.

My head pounded and for a long moment, I was disoriented.

My vision was blurry, my thoughts were a mess and I could barely breathe.

When I tried to move, pain exploded through my wrists and ankles.

I felt something holding me down and digging deep into my skin.

Every time I struggled, it mercilessly bit into my flesh.

I felt dim rays of light sipping through my eyelid as my vision began to become clear.

Slowly, my senses became sharper- I could smell damp cement, I could smell blood, I could smell shit.

I looked down at my feet and saw how bare and filthy they were.

The moment I saw the trail of blood around my feet, hot pain shot through my legs, causing me to scream.

I tried to move my feet to ease the pain but I only felt the tiny shards of glass digging deeper into my skin.

Despite the pain, I tried to get familiar with my environ

  • Hired Wife   CHAPTER 58

Allison The Cab driver had been hesitant to leave me.Did I really look that fragile- that broken? When I paid him and got out, he followed me and only left when I warned him severely. He looked at me like I was about to walk into a burning house.Maybe I was.But I would rather walk into a burning house and listen to the fire cackling as it enveloped me than sit in silence.I didn't want silence tonight.Silence meant remembering everything that happened today- Mathieu's taunting words, watching Christopher walk out of the prison, watching him drive into an estate I never he owned.Worse?Silence meant having my brain draw up different possibilities of Christopher really having a child.I titlted back the glass and swallowed another mouthful of whiskey. It burned but not as close as the truth had burned."Rough night?" I turned in the direction of the masculine voice and saw a man with dark hair, blue eyes and an easy smile. His hair wasn't brown, his eyes weren't brown and he.....

  • Hired Wife   CHAPTER 57

Christopher She should not know- she could not have known.Fuck! Matthieu did not know I had a daughter. He gloated about everything and never kept quiet about anything he knew. There was absolutely no way Mathieu had known I had a daughter and had not said a word about it.No, maybe I was just overthinking.Matthieu could not and did not know about Sophia but then.....He did not know about this estate. The only people who did were my mother and Charles. If Matthieu didn't tell Allison anything about this place, how the hell was she here?"Sir?" Charles lingered by my side. She whispered something to herself. I badly wanted to know what she had said and what she was thinking. She waited a moment longer before turning around and leaving in a Cab.She had left the house in a fucking Cab.That was how I didn't know she had left in the first place, let alone got to the Prison.Had she caught on to the fact that I was making James inform me of every place he drove her to?I did not want

  • Hired Wife   CHAPTER 56

Christopher Anger ran through my veins as I stepped out of the cold gray prison.I didn't have any hopes for Mathieu but I had expected he would have been of help.I was expecting him to slip up and say something that could direct me to a lead but all he did was talk shit.He was either doing that on purpose- probs wanted to hold onto the last piece of information that kept his illusion of control alive.Or he was just plain useless. When I slid into the back seat of the car, I undid my tie."He was useless."Charles started the car and began driving away from the prison building."What did he say, Sir?"Just like me, Charles had hoped that he would Mathieu would slip up with his words and then we would get a lead.Unfortunately, Mathieu disappointed us both."Nothing."Charles glanced at me through the rear view mirror."He didn't mention anyone or anything odd?" "Nothing. He was completely useless.""He might be in the same situation as Mateo.""What?" I looked away from the windo

  • Hired Wife   CHAPTER 55

Allison My bruises had faded and my body had healed but I still hadn't recovered from what happened.I still had nightmares of what happened. When I closed my eyes, I saw myself in that dirty room. When I woke up in the morning, I could still feel the ropes biting into my skin.Constantly, I heard Mathieu's taunting voice in my head and Christopher's deceptive and confusing words in my head. The conflicted each other so much, it nearly drove me to madness. In the beginning, I didn't care because I trusted him.I trusted that he was still the logical middle schooler I knew and the contract was not going to drag me into any trouble whatsoever. But ever since Seychelles, I'd had my doubts so I began digging into him.I had Never even searched his company before but when we returned to the country, I did.I began investigating Christopher- his company, hid past relationships, his contracts, his friends in College.Every single thing.Every search ended up with the same summary. The golde

  • Hired Wife   CHAPTER 54

Christopher It's been two months since the incident at Seychelles.Matthieu was behind bars now, the island was thriving again and the Press had quickly moved on from the incident. But I couldn't.Every time I closed my eyes, I saw Allison bloodied, bruised, helpless.Even right now, I remembered how cold she was when I found her. When I zoned out, I heard the sounds of siren and gunshots.Just like right now."Daddy, look. Bubbles!" My daughter's voice pulled me back to reality.I turned and saw her standing behind me with her hair gleaming like gold under the sun.She ran around the garden, laughing happily. For the first time since she was born, I did not regret hiding her existence. If I hadn't, Mathieu would have known- he would have come after her.He would have abducted her and tortured her like he did to Allison. He could have killed her. There was no way I could have ever moved on if that has happened.I crouched and opened my arms. She giggled, running straight into the hug

  • Hired Wife   CHAPTER 53

Allison The annoying smell of antiseptic, mixed with something much more calmer and nicer, filled my lungs. Then slowly, I heard beeping sounds. They sounded distant at first but the more conscious I became, the louder they became. The throbbing pain in my head made me want to destroy the source of the beeping sound. It felt like with every beep, the pain worsened.I touch my head to see if it had been split open because it felt like it.Lifting my heavy eyelids, I was welcomed by the white ceiling above my head and bright light that I soon realized were sunrays flowing into the ward through the window. My consciousness came in fragments- it didn't rush back all at once. But when it did, I almost slipped into unconsciousness again. My throat and lips were dry, my arms were sore and my body ached so badly, it felt like I had been hit by a moving train.I felt a sting in my arm that I realized came from the IV line next to the heart monitor.I felt something warm on my leg. It wasn't f
