“This must be a mistake…” I mumbled, my hands trembling as I stared at the test results.

“You're finally pregnant,” my gynaecologist announced, smiling very broadly at me.

“Congratulations Dahlia, you'll become a mother soon,” she kept smiling.

I sat there, glued to the seat and speechless.

“She is playing a prank on me,” I repeatedly told myself, finding it hard to believe the sudden revelation.

Suddenly getting pregnant after being told I'll never be able to have a child of my own felt like a dream.

“Yo…you should redo the test…Have you forgotten, I can't get pregnant,” I reminded her, stuttering and trying not to give myself high hopes.

“That would mean redoing the pregnancy test for the sixth time. You're pregnant Dahlia. This is your reality!” She said louder this time, full of smiles.

I shook my head in denial, but then she placed the fifth result of the pregnancy test on my palm.

“See for yourself…”

I glanced down at the paper, then my face slowly contoured in shock.

“I'm pregnant,” I mumbled, trying to come to terms with it.

“I'm pregnant!” I said aloud, as the truth slowly crept in.

Five years ago, I got married to the love of my life, Desmond. We focused on running our company for a while. A company I started about three years before I met him. We ran the company together ever since then. When we decided to start having children two years ago, since the company was now doing really well, I was suddenly hit with the news about how I can't ever get pregnant.

Desmond had comforted me, saying he didn't mind as long as he had me by his side, but that wasn't the case for me, having my own child, being a mother has always been my biggest dream.

“I'm pregnant!!” I repeated more loudly this time.

Out of excitement, I pulled out my phone and dialed my husband's number. I didn't have the patience to wait for him to get back from the office.

Smiling, I waited for him to pick up, but then, he never did. After trying a few more times without getting any response, I resigned and decided to head to the company.

“I'll just tell him there,” I told myself.

I wasted no time getting back into my car and quickly drove to the company.

After discovering my inability to conceive, I blamed it all on me working too hard. Right from the moment I founded my company, I had worked tirelessly, getting very little sleep each day. I blamed myself for my predicament. To make more time for myself, I made Desmond the CEO and took on a smaller role. In fact, I barely visited the office these few years and spent more time with my gynaecologist, trying to make a miracle happen and then it did happen.

I parked my car and headed right into the reception. This would be the first time I'm stepping foot into the company in about a year, if not more.

I walked past the reception without sparing a glance at the receptionist, it's my company anyways.

“Excuse me, ma'am. You can't just walk in like that,” the young lady called out to me, making me halt.

I turned around to look at her, only to notice she was unfamiliar.

“When were you hired?” I asked, approaching her. The last receptionist was hired by me.

“Anyways, don't answer that, “ I was too excited to go meet my husband.

“I'm Dahlia Sterling,” I introduced myself.

“You're related to the CEO?” She asked, staring at me.

I could only smile.

“I'm his wife…” I said, I noticed her eyes bug out, making me smile. Without another word, I walked away.

“But ma'am, Mrs. Sterling is already…” she was saying but I paid no heed to her and got into the elevator.

Getting off the elevator, I found my way to Desmond's office. But then, I couldn't help but notice the new faces of the employees. In fact, there wasn't a single familiar face.

“What's going on?” I could only mumble inwardly.

I couldn't find a single employee I hired nor the ones that started the company with me.

“When did Desmond change the staff and why?” I was confused.

But then, recalling that I haven't been here for over a year now, made me shake my head.

“I would have known if I visited more,” I blamed myself.

Getting to my husband's office, I finally found a familiar face. It was Tony, an old employee, who now worked as Desmond's assistant.

“Tony,” I called out the moment I walked in. His office was right outside Desmond's.

“Da….Dahlia….” He stammered, his eyes nearly falling off his sockets the moment he caught sight of me. He stood to hurry over to me as if to stop me from going further, but then he staggered.

“What are you doing here so suddenly, work hours are nearly over?” He threw a series of questions at me, looking visibly uncomfortable.

“Something's wrong,” I told myself.

“I just dropped by,” I waved him off.

“Is Desmond in?” I asked, glancing at the slightly ajar door that led to his office.

“No…” he was quick to speak.

“Then why is the door open?” I asked, walking over to the door.

“I mean yes…he is in but he is very busy,” he quickly spoke.

“He has a lot of files to go through….” He stuttered, nearly breaking into a cold sweat.

I nodded, not saying a word and walked over to the door.

I noticed Tony trying to protest and stop me from opening the door, but that made me want to open it even more, not giving him time to say another word, I pushed the door open and walked in.

The sight that welcomed me was indeed what Tony had said.

Desmond was squatted on the floor covered in sweat, with documents scattered all over the floor. He had his headset on, explaining why he didn't hear my entire conversation with Tony, otherwise, he would have walked right out to welcome me. A few buttons of his shirt were left undone, and his hair was disheveled, instantly making me clamp my legs together.

I quickly blamed my pregnancy for making me like this.

“Baby!” I called out, walking over to him and gently tapping his back, bringing his attention to me.

He was quick to glance up with a stern look on his face. But then when his eyes met mine, his gaze softened and he looked really surprised.

“Dahl?” He called out pleasantly surprised.

“Surprise!” I smiled, throwing myself into his arms.

At that moment my eyes caught sight of a familiar figure behind him, Sophia, my former assistant.

Just like Desmond, she was covered in sweat and looked exhausted.

The atmosphere suddenly got awkward, as I stared at her.

I instantly felt uneasy.

“Desmond…..What is she doing here?”

Chapter 158DAHLIA“Looks like we hit the jackpot,” Gilbert laughed.I could only roll my eyes. No family will ever have incriminating videos against them compiled and uploaded on the internet, especially a family member. Because clearly, the article read it had been published by Sheila Knight. Seeing how she was the writer, I doubted the videos held anything that could be used against them. Having known her, I've come to understand that she likes the power that comes with being a Knight. I mean she literally made my life a living hell just because she can and I didn't expect any better from her.“I'll go sit with Ivana. I doubt wasting time on this will make any difference,” I mumbled. But Gilbert held me back.“The title suggests otherwise,” he said.“Sheila is Ronan’s step mom. A woman whose head is filled with nothing but wickedness. You think she'll reveal the secret of the family, knowing it will put her in jeopardy, knowing it would take the power she had over others from her?

Chapter 157DAHLIAIvana, Gilbert and I each took our seats in the living room, no one saying a single word. The current situation was something none of us expected, it was above every single one of us. And worse, we had to wait for the guys to get to safety before we reached out, before we alerted them to the kind of enemy we were up against and worse, we couldn't even call them on phone or something, couldn't contact the police and could only wait.Gilbert's eyes were fixed on the tablet. He was watching all of Kennedy's moves. Monitoring every part of the house. Ivana and I were doing that with him earlier but it got so draining that left him to that.“Kennedy just found your IDs. He has figured out that you two are twins,” he updated us.But at this point, we didn't really care. “Good,” Ivana mumbled out loud.Gilbert's gaze went in her direction.“He could use this to his advantage. And you're saying good?” He asked, looking tense.“It doesn't matter, Gilbert. Did you think we'd

Chapter 156RONANThe moment Kennedy hung up that way. I got tense. “They're not safe,” I told Brandon. And just like that, the two of us headed out of the hospital building. Gavin was left to take care of his father and keep an eye out for Francis Knight while rushed down to the parking lot, got in the car.I turned on the ignition and was about to speed off, when I noticed something odd. The car seemed a bit heavy, like the tyres were clinging to the ground. I turned off the ignition and got out of the car.Just like I expected, the tires were punctured.“This is bad,” Brandon mumbled.“How do we get home now,” he ran his fingers through his hair. But I didn't panic. Not even a bit. I couldn't afford to lose my mind simply because of a car. No, my wife was out there in the mercy of that psycho.I rushed out of the hospital and thankfully, a cab was speeding towards me at that moment.I flagged down the cab, Brandon and I got in.“Flinch Street,” Brandon told the driver our destinat

Chapter 155KENNEDY Living in Ronan's house was totally my plan. Ronan seemed strong and unbeatable but I refused to believe he had no secrets. I refused to make peace with the fact that he was better than me in every aspect. There had to be something I could use against him in regards to business. I already had his wife at my palm but I needed something else. Something that would not only bring him to his knees but turn the world against him.Just like every Ronan, I had been studying every other person. When I said I'd end the Knights family, I wasn't bluffing, I meant every single word. After getting back and meeting up with my grandfather, sorry my biological father…Let's just stick to calling him Francis because as far as I'm concerned I am someone with no family, no father, no mother, I'm just on my own. After getting back and investigating Francis, I learnt of his plans for me. He didn't make me come home to take over the company like he claimed but he's due he was planning so

Chapter 154KENNEDY Thanks to my mother, I got decent accommodation. I lived a quiet life. I in fact fell in love with it, it gave me solitude , made me at peace, something I have never experienced throughout my years of living with my family. When I learnt that Ronan chose to live with our grandfather, I was happy. Happy that father had none of his sons by his side. He was horrible to me and now Ronan, the son he chose, was being horrible to him. It gladdened my heart and helped me live to see the light of each day.I enrolled myself in a public school and took on a part time job to survive. I hated that I was dependent on my mother, a woman who did not really care about me. The entire time I lived alone, she never visited me. Never called, unless I didIt was just like she was happy to get rid of me. The only thing I got from her was money, she'd send me a lot of money. But receiving them each time made my heart bleed. All I ever wanted my entire life was to be loved, to gain the

Chapter 153KENNEDY Ever had that one sibling who thinks they're better than everyone, that one pride filled peacock in every family that acts like they are gods and need to be worshipped. You sit by the corner every single day, watching that sibling get praised, you watch as he gets all the attention, everyone showers him with gifts, while you are left to rot in hiding. That has always been my life. It has always been terrible, right from a really young age, Ronan has always been the smart kid, while I, on the other hand, was the dullard, the laughing stock. The teachers back then in school made it a ritual to compare the both of us every single day. They'd rub my failure on my face and praise Ronan and not once would he stop them from doing that. He never did and in fact encouraged the behaviour, making sure to rub his success in my face. It was horrible, an experience I wouldn't want even my most horrendous enemy to go through. All my life I had to live under Ronan's shadow, fathe
