Chapter 2
DAHLIA “What is she doing here?” I asked, my eyes never leaving hers. “What were you doing with her?” I detached my hand from Desmond's shoulders and gazed right at him, taking a step back. “What…What are you saying?” Desmond quickly pulled his headset off his head, flinging it away. Then he quickly grabbed me, holding onto my waist. “Leave us, Sophia,” he instructed. My eyes never left Sophia's as she walked away, she sent a glare in my direction and just before she closed the door, I noticed she missed a button on her shirt. The moment the door shut, I pulled away from Desmond's hold, glaring at him. “Dahl, you're over thinking,” he said, looking at me. “I met another woman all sweaty and looking like that in your office, she even missed a button on her shirt…And you’re telling me I’m overthinking?” I couldn’t hold back the hurt, anger and disappointment. “Calm down, Dahl,” Desmond quickly pulled me into his arms and began to stroke my back like he always did each time I got offended, but then I backed away. He sighed. “The proposal I told you about. The one with the Knights. It suddenly went missing, I couldn't search alone so I called for someone trusted to help out, we've been searching for hours,” he explained, staring right into my eyes. “Tony couldn't help with the search?” I asked. Desmond sighed. “I don't know why you're suddenly acting like this, baby. You and I know I would never do anything that will hurt you. Tony was busy at that time and Sophia was the only available person. I'm sure you noticed the new faces. I don't really trust any of them,” he explained, holding onto my hand and desperately wanting me to believe him. His explanation made a lot of sense and at that moment, all my doubts were erased. “I will never hurt you…” Desmond went on to say softly. I shook my head at my silliness. Blaming it all on pregnancy hormones, I threw myself into his arms. “I'm sorry, Des. I don't know what came over me,” I mumbled. He didn't say a word for a moment and then I proceeded to apologize once again. “You know I love it when you're possessive over me,” he smiled, kissing me. I wasted no time returning the kiss and in a few minutes, the sound of our tongues wrestling with each other filled the office. “I have to find the business proposal, “ Desmond suddenly pulled away, still holding onto me. As much as I wanted nothing more than to throw myself into his arms, I understood the importance of doing business with the Knights. It would change our life forever. “I'll help you,” I said, making a mental note to tell him about the pregnancy later. Knowing how excited he'd be when I share the news. I didn't want him to miss this big deal out of excitement. After barely 10 minutes of searching, he found the papers. “You know what Dahlia. Why don't you take the proposal to the Knights yourself,” Desmond suddenly suggested. “Why?” I asked “I wanted Sophia to go but….” He was saying but I cut her off. “I'll go,” the mere mention of the name Sophia, was now an irk to me. In fact, I'd probably hate anyone called Sophia for the next coming years. Desmond might not understand, but as a woman, I did. That woman was out to seduce my husband. I simply ruined her plans. That was the only plausible explanation for her glaring at me earlier. “I'll go home with the proposal and study it, then visit the Knights tomorrow….Do not worry, I'll secure this deal for you, “ I promised him. The moment I said this, a thought flashed through my mind, it's always great to celebrate two great news at once. “I'll tell him about my pregnancy when I secure the deal with the Knights,” I declared inwardly, smiling. “I'm leaving now,” I kissed him and headed for the door. “I'll be home soon. Don't bother about making dinner, I'm sure you'd get tired by the time you reach home,” Desmond smiled at me. I nodded, loving my ever so caring husband. Leaving his office, I waved a tensed Tony goodbye and walked out. But then, as I stepped into the elevator, someone walked in too, it was Sophia. “We need to talk,” she said the moment the doors shut. I felt disgusted by her presence. “I have nothing to discuss with you Sophia,” I quickly dismissed her. “Not when it involves your dear Desmond,” she said “Once again, Sophia. I have nothing to discuss with you,” I maintained my stand. Just then, the elevator door dinged and I walked off. Sophia persisted and followed me out of the company and into my car. “What the hell is wrong with you! First you try to seduce my husband and now this?” I fired at her. She simply smiled. “Buy me coffee and I'll tell you something about your husband,” she maintained her stand.. Sighing, I drove to the nearest coffee shop. Not because I would believe whatever nonsense she would say about Desmond. But because I wanted to get rid of her. “Don’t you think your husband is cheating on you, Dahlia?…” Sophia asked the moment we settled down in the coffee shop. Staring intensely at me like she was trying to gauge my reaction I scoffed, unfazed. “You don't think so?” She asked, smirking. “Why would I? I've been married to Desmond for years. He didn't cheat when we were dating, he never cheated since. Why would he suddenly cheat now?” “Well, I hate to be the one to break it to you, but your saint Desmond is a chronic womanizer and is cheating on you, not with me though, I have better taste…” She paused, then leaned forward. “Believe it or not. The sooner you come to terms with that, the better for you…And for what you witnessed in the office, nothing happened,” she casually spoke, sipping the coffee that had just been dropped on the table. I speechlessly sat there, not knowing what to say. “Why are you doing this?” I finally managed to speak. “Why do you want to tear my marriage apart?” Sophia scoffed. “Your marriage fell before it even began. And for why I'm doing this, Dahlia….It's simple. Find yourself. You're lost all in the name of marriage. “What…” I was speaking, but then she picked up her bag. “I'm leaving. I'll pay for the coffee on my way out.” “One more thing,” she paused. “Ask your husband why he fired the old employees….Those people were loyal to you.” “Wake up, Dahlia,” she patted my back and walked away, leaving me seated there confused.Chapter 158DAHLIA“Looks like we hit the jackpot,” Gilbert laughed.I could only roll my eyes. No family will ever have incriminating videos against them compiled and uploaded on the internet, especially a family member. Because clearly, the article read it had been published by Sheila Knight. Seeing how she was the writer, I doubted the videos held anything that could be used against them. Having known her, I've come to understand that she likes the power that comes with being a Knight. I mean she literally made my life a living hell just because she can and I didn't expect any better from her.“I'll go sit with Ivana. I doubt wasting time on this will make any difference,” I mumbled. But Gilbert held me back.“The title suggests otherwise,” he said.“Sheila is Ronan’s step mom. A woman whose head is filled with nothing but wickedness. You think she'll reveal the secret of the family, knowing it will put her in jeopardy, knowing it would take the power she had over others from her?
Chapter 157DAHLIAIvana, Gilbert and I each took our seats in the living room, no one saying a single word. The current situation was something none of us expected, it was above every single one of us. And worse, we had to wait for the guys to get to safety before we reached out, before we alerted them to the kind of enemy we were up against and worse, we couldn't even call them on phone or something, couldn't contact the police and could only wait.Gilbert's eyes were fixed on the tablet. He was watching all of Kennedy's moves. Monitoring every part of the house. Ivana and I were doing that with him earlier but it got so draining that left him to that.“Kennedy just found your IDs. He has figured out that you two are twins,” he updated us.But at this point, we didn't really care. “Good,” Ivana mumbled out loud.Gilbert's gaze went in her direction.“He could use this to his advantage. And you're saying good?” He asked, looking tense.“It doesn't matter, Gilbert. Did you think we'd
Chapter 156RONANThe moment Kennedy hung up that way. I got tense. “They're not safe,” I told Brandon. And just like that, the two of us headed out of the hospital building. Gavin was left to take care of his father and keep an eye out for Francis Knight while rushed down to the parking lot, got in the car.I turned on the ignition and was about to speed off, when I noticed something odd. The car seemed a bit heavy, like the tyres were clinging to the ground. I turned off the ignition and got out of the car.Just like I expected, the tires were punctured.“This is bad,” Brandon mumbled.“How do we get home now,” he ran his fingers through his hair. But I didn't panic. Not even a bit. I couldn't afford to lose my mind simply because of a car. No, my wife was out there in the mercy of that psycho.I rushed out of the hospital and thankfully, a cab was speeding towards me at that moment.I flagged down the cab, Brandon and I got in.“Flinch Street,” Brandon told the driver our destinat
Chapter 155KENNEDY Living in Ronan's house was totally my plan. Ronan seemed strong and unbeatable but I refused to believe he had no secrets. I refused to make peace with the fact that he was better than me in every aspect. There had to be something I could use against him in regards to business. I already had his wife at my palm but I needed something else. Something that would not only bring him to his knees but turn the world against him.Just like every Ronan, I had been studying every other person. When I said I'd end the Knights family, I wasn't bluffing, I meant every single word. After getting back and meeting up with my grandfather, sorry my biological father…Let's just stick to calling him Francis because as far as I'm concerned I am someone with no family, no father, no mother, I'm just on my own. After getting back and investigating Francis, I learnt of his plans for me. He didn't make me come home to take over the company like he claimed but he's due he was planning so
Chapter 154KENNEDY Thanks to my mother, I got decent accommodation. I lived a quiet life. I in fact fell in love with it, it gave me solitude , made me at peace, something I have never experienced throughout my years of living with my family. When I learnt that Ronan chose to live with our grandfather, I was happy. Happy that father had none of his sons by his side. He was horrible to me and now Ronan, the son he chose, was being horrible to him. It gladdened my heart and helped me live to see the light of each day.I enrolled myself in a public school and took on a part time job to survive. I hated that I was dependent on my mother, a woman who did not really care about me. The entire time I lived alone, she never visited me. Never called, unless I didIt was just like she was happy to get rid of me. The only thing I got from her was money, she'd send me a lot of money. But receiving them each time made my heart bleed. All I ever wanted my entire life was to be loved, to gain the
Chapter 153KENNEDY Ever had that one sibling who thinks they're better than everyone, that one pride filled peacock in every family that acts like they are gods and need to be worshipped. You sit by the corner every single day, watching that sibling get praised, you watch as he gets all the attention, everyone showers him with gifts, while you are left to rot in hiding. That has always been my life. It has always been terrible, right from a really young age, Ronan has always been the smart kid, while I, on the other hand, was the dullard, the laughing stock. The teachers back then in school made it a ritual to compare the both of us every single day. They'd rub my failure on my face and praise Ronan and not once would he stop them from doing that. He never did and in fact encouraged the behaviour, making sure to rub his success in my face. It was horrible, an experience I wouldn't want even my most horrendous enemy to go through. All my life I had to live under Ronan's shadow, fathe
