Chapter 16

DAHLIA

“Desmond published it. Look, that's your name, and picture too.”

“What?” I snatched the phone from her, and true to her words, that was my photo. I read through the despicable lies Desmond wrote about me. One of many being how he had caught me countless times with other men and how I'd turn him into a slave simply because I helped his family in their time of need.

“What the hell is this? How dare he? What the heck is he trying to achieve with this? Hasn't he done enough?” I asked multiple questions all at once, yet I never got an answer for any.

“We have a problem,” Ronan Knight's assistant called for my attention.

“What is it this time?” I snapped, so pissed off, that I picked up the lamp on the side table and smashed it on the floor.

“The hospital's entrance is filled with the press. It seems like your husband gave out your location,” he announced.

“We can leave through the back door,” Anita suggested, and Blake nodded to it.

“Why the hell will I leave thr

  • His Betrayal, My Redemption   154

Chapter 154KENNEDY Thanks to my mother, I got decent accommodation. I lived a quiet life. I in fact fell in love with it, it gave me solitude , made me at peace, something I have never experienced throughout my years of living with my family. When I learnt that Ronan chose to live with our grandfather, I was happy. Happy that father had none of his sons by his side. He was horrible to me and now Ronan, the son he chose, was being horrible to him. It gladdened my heart and helped me live to see the light of each day.I enrolled myself in a public school and took on a part time job to survive. I hated that I was dependent on my mother, a woman who did not really care about me. The entire time I lived alone, she never visited me. Never called, unless I didIt was just like she was happy to get rid of me. The only thing I got from her was money, she'd send me a lot of money. But receiving them each time made my heart bleed. All I ever wanted my entire life was to be loved, to gain the

Chapter 153KENNEDY Ever had that one sibling who thinks they're better than everyone, that one pride filled peacock in every family that acts like they are gods and need to be worshipped. You sit by the corner every single day, watching that sibling get praised, you watch as he gets all the attention, everyone showers him with gifts, while you are left to rot in hiding. That has always been my life. It has always been terrible, right from a really young age, Ronan has always been the smart kid, while I, on the other hand, was the dullard, the laughing stock. The teachers back then in school made it a ritual to compare the both of us every single day. They'd rub my failure on my face and praise Ronan and not once would he stop them from doing that. He never did and in fact encouraged the behaviour, making sure to rub his success in my face. It was horrible, an experience I wouldn't want even my most horrendous enemy to go through. All my life I had to live under Ronan's shadow, fathe

Chapter 152DAHLIASitting there and listening to Gilbert talk about how evil Francis Knight has always been, made me recoil. The man wasn't just vile, he was a monster, one capable of doing anything with no fear of facing the consequences. It made me worry about Ronan. Yes, he is his grandfather, but there was no telling what he could do. Knowing that he hates his son, Richard didn't make it any better. Ronan was Richard's son and by all means, I knew he would transfer the hate to Ronan.“My God,” I could only mumble.“So, that man killed father?” Ivana asked after staying silent for nearly ten minutes trying to digest the new information.“I have everything recorded. But I'm sure you do not want to see your father getting killed,” Gilbert said, his voice low and firm.“It's for the court. That is if they're actually going to be helpful. If they don't sentence that man to death or life imprisonment with no parole, then I'll take the law into my own hands….”“Ronan and the others are

Chapter 151DAHLIA Gilbert or whatever he is called led us back to the dining, grabbed hold of the tablet and unlocked it.“That's the tablet containing evidence? The one my father told me about?” Ivana asked. The guy nodded.“Uncle and I have been gathering evidence against Francis Knight for years…”“Who's that?” I asked.I practically knew all the Knights but this would be my first time hearing of Francis Knight.“The old man…” Gilbert gave me a surprised glance.“Aren't you married to Ronan? How come you don't know his grandfather's name?” He asked.Only then did it dawn on me that I didn't even know the old man's name. All these while I'd been addressing him as old man or Ronan's grandfather not once did it occur to me to ask for his name.“Hold on, so you all were planning on facing someone you don't even know his name?” Gilbert laughed at his own joke.“Imagine suing him and getting asked what Francis Knight did wrong to you, then you go…Your honour, who is Francis Knight? Tha

Chapter 150DAHLIA “Someone is in here. A man,” Ivana walked up to me and whispered.“I thought you said this place was safe?” I whispered back but she looked just as confused as me.“I don't know Dahlia, I'm the only one supposed to have the keys to this place…”“Then how did the so-called man get in,” I was getting tense at this point.“Beats me,” she mumbled.“Come…” She walked out of the room, I immediately trailed behind her.“We should get out of here,” I suggested. She nodded.“That's exactly what I want us to do now. Thinking of it now, a hotel doesn't sound that bad,” Ivana mumbled. My eyes rested on her and I could see she was tense and scared. So much for someone wanting to get revenge.I walked up to her, grabbed her shaky hand and gave her an assuring look.“We'll get back home safely, Ivana. Don't freak out. That's the last thing I'd want right now….” She bobbed her head like she perfectly understood me, but her hand kept shaking.I could only guess this was her first t

Chapter 149DAHLIAIvana pulled up in front of an old nearly run down building. Turned off the ignition and got out of the car.I sat, glued to the seat, refusing to step out, making her walk over to my side.“Aren't you getting out?” She asked, raising her brows at me.“Ivana, I agreed to go to a hotel, not this,” I glanced at the eerie looking building. The entire neighborhood looks like it had been abandoned for at least five years if not more.“We don't have time for this, Dahlia,” Ivana pulled the car door open, grabbing my hand and pulling me out of the car.“I own this place, father bought it for me….he purchased the entire neighborhood,” Ivana explainedPulling me towards the gate.“And why would he buy a place like this?” The quietness, the tardiness and how eerie the entire place looks made me feel uncomfortable.“No one would ever suspect that a billionaire's daughter would stay in a place like this. You all were looking for a perfect hiding spot. This is it. Even Brandon a
