“Did you talk to her?”

A figure fell in tandem with hers just as an arm was slung carelessly over her shoulder, inadvertently drawing her into the person’s side. Glancing beside her, Alessia acknowledged the fellow thief whose strides threatened to overtake hers, her dull eyes flickering away.

She smelt the pungent sweat on his skin, the remnants of some sort of cologne he must have swiped, and the hot stickiness of his breath from eating a stolen honeyed bun. Another peripheral glance at his mouth and bruised but working jaw confirmed her suspicions.

“No,” she uttered before kicking a pebble aside on the path. On any other day, Alessia would have twisted Damen’s arm for daring to touch her so brazenly, but this time, his touch was almost welcomed. Almost… comforting.
