Armando's POV

I did not bring up the shell company again that week, though it stayed in the back of my mind.

My attention had moved to something closer to home. Hidden in words I had signed without reading closely enough. I had been too focused on saving Zahara's father's company to check every line my own lawyer wrote for me.

I pulled up the marriage contract in my study one evening. I read it slowly this time, and I stopped at section fourteen. The words were careful, almost too careful.

  • His Contract Wife's Secret Twins    CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND SEVENTEEN

Armando's POVI saw her fall before I noticed the man standing over her. Gravel scattered beneath her as she hit the ground, and something inside me seemed to snap. For one terrible second, everything around me faded. The shouting, the gunfire, the movement of Griggs's men. None of it mattered. All I could see was Zahara lying on the ground."Zahara!" I shouted, my voice tearing through the chaos. The man near her turned at the sound. His weapon swung away from where she had fallen and pointed directly at me.I saw him raise it. Saw his finger settle against the trigger.Griggs's earlier warning flashed through my mind. Do not rush in. Do not expose yourself. But none of that could hold me back now."Armando, no!" Zahara screamed, struggling to push herself up from the gravel.I heard her, but I could not stop.I was already moving, my feet carrying me across the remaining distance as the man levelled his weapon. There was no time to think about the consequences. I only knew that if h

Zahara's POV"Time to move," one of them said flatly, already crossing the room towards me. "Get up."I rose slowly, keeping my expression as calm as I could manage. The prepaid phone was still tucked against my skin beneath my clothes, and I instinctively pressed my arm close to my side to make sure it remained there.I understood what this meant. Once they moved me from this building, whatever slim advantage I currently held would disappear. I might never discover where they had taken me, and the evidence I had gathered could become useless if I was unable to get it into the right hands."Where are you taking me?" I asked, buying myself a few more seconds."Doesn't matter," the second man replied, gripping my arm firmly. "You'll find out when we get there."I said nothing more. They led me down the narrow hallway, one on either side, and I forced myself to pay attention to everything around me. The doors we passed, the direction of the corridor, the distance to the entrance. My puls

Armando's POVGriggs's fingers dropped to zero, and we moved. We crossed the open ground quickly, keeping low as we headed towards the building. The rusted equipment and scattered trees offered little cover, but we had nearly reached the edge of the clearing when a shout rang out from the porch. One of the men had spotted us."We have company!"He reached for something at his belt, and within seconds, the quiet night erupted."Down!" Griggs barked. We scattered behind the nearest cover as shouted warnings and the metallic sounds of weapons being readied filled the air. I dropped behind a rusted piece of machinery, hitting the ground hard enough to feel the impact in my shoulder. My heart slammed against my ribs. For a brief moment, I could hear little beyond the pounding in my ears. Then I forced myself to look towards the building.Three men stood near the entrance now, their weapons raised. They had taken defensive positions instead of running for cover, which suggested they were ei

  • His Contract Wife's Secret Twins    CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND FOURTEEN

Armando's POVWe moved through the tree line slowly, Okoro leading with quiet, practiced steps while Griggs and his men spread out on either side. All of us kept our eyes on the single lit window above the main structure as we closed the distance."Two vehicles parked near the rear," Okoro whispered, studying the property through a small pair of binoculars. "No movement outside yet. Whatever is happening, it is happening inside.""How many entrances?" I asked."Front door, and what looks like a service entrance on the east side, closer to where we are standing now."He lowered the binoculars and turned towards me."Mr. Ivas, I want to remind you that we go in together, on my signal. Nothing reckless. We do not know how many men are actually inside; and rushing in blind gets people killed.""I understand."I kept my voice steady, but my fingers had already curled into my palms. I knew why we had to be careful. I understood that one careless move could expose us before we reached the bu

  • His Contract Wife's Secret Twins    CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND THIRTEEN

Zahara's POVI sat frozen for a long moment after Wolfson left, his words still echoing through me. Decades of quiet cruelty had been laid out so plainly that it felt almost unreal. My mother. Armando's parents. Fiona.Everything had finally been confirmed, spoken aloud by the very man responsible. Yet I had nothing to show for it except my own memory, which was useless against men who had already decided I would never leave this room alive.I closed my eyes briefly, forcing myself to think clearly instead of allowing grief to consume me. The same discipline that had carried me through every medical emergency I had ever faced was all I had now.If Wolfson believed nothing I had heard tonight could ever matter, perhaps he had grown careless. And careless men made mistakes. The younger guard returned a while later, carrying another tray. I noticed immediately that his shoulders were tense. The discomfort I had glimpsed earlier was still there; but something about him had changed. He see

Arthur POVI studied her for a long moment before speaking. This was the daughter of a woman who had haunted thirty years of my life without ever knowing who I was. She sat composed on the edge of the narrow bed, her chin lifted despite everything; and I found myself unexpectedly admiring the defiance in it."You do not seem frightened," I said."I have survived worse than a locked room." Her eyes remained fixed on mine. "Who exactly are you?""Arthur Wolfson," I replied, as a faint smile touched my lips. And I watched carefully as recognition crossed her face. Her breath caught; and for a brief moment, the composure she had been maintaining slipped."I see the name means something to you already," I remarked. Her expression hardened, and her fingers curled against the edge of the bed."You poisoned Fiona," she said, her voice low but firm. "You worked for Susan years ago.""Among other things." I allowed myself a small smile. "I have done a great many things over the years, Zahara. A
