Chapter 4

Penulis: Sunny
After what felt like an eternity, the rain stopped. The moon emerged from behind the clouds, casting a pale, ghostly light over the courtyard.

"Not dead yet?"

"You're tougher than you look."

Vanessa's voice came from behind me. I laboriously turned my head and saw her standing in the doorway, wrapped in a white robe.

"Let me see. The pathetic Silver Crest princess," she purred, slowly approaching me. "Tsk, tsk. How pitiful."

She crouched down, her hand caressing my blood-caked face.

"You know," she whispered, her voice as sweet as honey, "while Fenris was making love to me upstairs just now, you know, he was thinking of you the whole time."

My heart seized.

"He cried out your name when he came," Vanessa giggled in my ear. "Such a pity. The bond is killing him too, but he'll die before he ever acknowledges you as his mate."

She stood and rolled up her sleeve. In the moonlight, I saw a silver tattoo on her arm—the sacred sigil of our people, a mark of salvation and strength.

"See this little thing?" she purred, displaying it proudly. "This is all it took to convince Fenris I was his savior."

My eyes widened.

"He thinks I saved him," Vanessa's smile grew wider. "And he thinks your pack slaughtered his. The poor, stupid fool."

"It was you…" I managed to choke out.

"Of course it was me," Vanessa admitted without hesitation. "The Red Fang pack planned this for a decade, all for this moment. Not just to destroy Black Moon, but to wipe out Silver Crest as well, and then let the two surviving heirs torture each other to death."

She knelt again, her nail tracing a line down my cheek. "Such a perfect plan. Fenris thinks he's getting his revenge, but he's just another pawn in the game. Both of you are nothing but playthings for the Red Fang pack."

Rage gave me a sliver of strength.

"If I had known," I stared into her eyes, my voice a raw rasp, "I should have let him die in that trap."

Vanessa's smile froze. "What did you say?"

"I said," I repeated, each word deliberate, "I should have let him die."

Footsteps sounded from behind me. Steady and familiar.

I instinctively turned my head and met Fenris's icy gaze. He had been standing there, listening.

A feral rage burned in his eyes.

"Freya," he snarled, his hand clamping around my throat. His voice was a curse from the depths of hell. "So you've wanted me dead all along?"

"No, that's not…"

Fenris's grip tightened, crushing my windpipe. "You Silver Crest wolves are all worthless scum!" His eyes were bloodshot. "And I almost believed you actually loved me!"

My feet left the ground, kicking uselessly in the air. My vision blurred as Fenris's own wolf spirit began to destabilize.

"Fenris..." I used the last of my strength to open my mouth. "When I said I loved you... I meant it..."

He suddenly released me. I crashed to the ground, coughing violently.

"Never mind." He loomed over me. "Killing you now would be letting you off too easy."

He crouched, grabbing my chin. "I've changed my mind," he said, his voice a low, dangerous rumble. "You want to protect that gravestone so badly?"

My eyes widened in horror.

"I can have your name carved on it, grant you the title of mother," Fenris's lips curled into a cruel smile. "But you will trade it for your absolute obedience."

"What do you mean?"

"From this moment on," he whispered, his breath hot against my ear, "you are my dog. You do what I say. You don't run, you don't fight back, and you don't die."

"Do you agree or not?"

I closed my eyes. For the sake of my child's final resting place, I would do anything.

"Fine. I agree."

"Good." Fenris stood. "Then let's start now."

He pointed to the center of the courtyard. "Kneel there until I tell you to get up."

I struggled to crawl to the center of the yard and knelt on the cold stone. The rain-slicked ground was chilling, and my knees quickly grew numb.

Fenris and Vanessa went back inside. Through the window, I could see them talking in the living room.

Time ticked by, second by second. The numbness in my knees turned into a searing pain, then to nothing at all. The Silverthorn Toxin, agitated by the night wind, raged through me. The tearing in my chest grew more intense with every wave.

After what felt like an eternity, the villa door opened again. Vanessa emerged alone. She had changed into a black dress and was holding the leashes of two enormous black dogs.

They were war hounds, unique to the Red Fang pack, bred specifically for hunting and killing their enemies. Each one stood as tall as a grown male wolf.

"Freya," Vanessa cooed. "Still here? You're so obedient. No wonder our Alpha just can't bring himself to truly hate you."

I looked up at her but said nothing. Can't hate me? He already hated me to his very core.

"These two darlings," she patted the war hounds' heads, "haven't had a fresh meal in a long time."

The hounds sniffed the air and immediately grew agitated, their bodies tense. They had caught the scent of blood. My wounds were still weeping.

"Did you know," Vanessa said as she unclipped the leashes, "that war hounds have a special fondness for injured prey?"

The two massive beasts shot toward me like shadows. They circled me, their growls low, guttural rumbles in their chests.

"Go on," Vanessa laughed softly. "Dinner's served."

  • His Cure, My Poison   Chapter 13

Time trickled by, each second an eternity. My vision grew blurrier, the world distorting before my eyes.My breathing grew weaker, the rise and fall of my chest nearly ceasing. The warmth was leaving my body, like a dying fire in winter, leaving only cold ash.I could feel my life force slipping away, starting from my fingertips.First my fingers, then my hands, then my arms…Like a receding tide, pulling me out into the deep. The distant gunfire faded, the explosions fell silent.Either Fenris had won, or he was dead. But it no longer mattered to me.Whatever the outcome, I wouldn't be there to see it.I closed my eyes, waiting for the final moment. An image of our childhood flickered in my mind. The Fenris who would pick wildflowers for me, who would lift me high into the air to pick the sweetest fruit from the trees. The Fenris who would hold me tight when I was scared and promise that no one would ever hurt me.Back then, we both thought fate would be kind to those who loved each o

"Finn…" Fenris repeated the name, his voice so choked it was nearly inaudible. "Our son…"His tears fell onto the back of my hand, each one scalding hot.The once-ruthless Alpha was now as fragile as a child. His phone began to vibrate again, the buzzing a harsh intrusion in the quiet room."Alpha! It's an emergency!" His Beta's voice was desperate and panicked. "The rogue alliance has breached the eastern defenses! Buildings are burning! Civilians are fleeing!""They're demanding your immediate surrender, or they'll slaughter everyone in the city! Alpha, our losses are catastrophic!""And the West Coast division—the shareholders have already voted you out! The banks have frozen all our accounts!"The call was filled not just with a voice, but with the roar of explosions, the cries of children, the screams of women. It was the sound of an empire collapsing.Fenris gripped the phone, the veins on the back of his hand bulging as his entire body shook. He looked at me, then at the phone w

"Not mine?" Fenris practically leaped out of his chair. The witch let out a soft laugh that sounded jarring in the quiet room."The child's father is her pack's Beta, Marcus," she paused, a malicious glint in her eye. "The Red Fang pack is known for inbreeding to keep their bloodline 'pure.'"I watched as Fenris's face went from pale to ashen, his fists clenched so tightly his knuckles were white. The rage and humiliation of being deceived were written all over his face. But I felt nothing. I almost wanted to laugh."She was deceiving you from the very beginning," the witch continued, her voice dripping with cruel delight. "Using your guilt and gratitude to make you her family's shield.""For ten years, you not only helped them eliminate their true rivals, you protected the real murderers.""You are an absolute, unmitigated fool."Fenris's Alpha aura exploded, and the temperature in the room plummeted. The murderous gold of his wolf flared in his eyes, his inner wolf on the verge of go

The faint light of the moonstone pendant flickered in the room, as if responding to something.I felt a familiar warmth spread from my chest, an emotional wave from the broken mate bond.Regret, guilt, despair… and love.An overwhelming tide of love.My eyelids began to flutter."Freya… please, open your eyes…"A hazy voice, choked with tears, drifted from far away.I slowly opened my eyes, squinting against the bright sunlight. This wasn't that cold room.Floor-to-ceiling windows, warm-toned decor, soft bedding… a warmth I had never known.Fenris was sitting in a chair by the bed, his hands clutching mine as if it were the most precious thing in the world. He looked terrible. His eyes were shot with blood in their sunken sockets, his jaw was covered in stubble, and his once-perfect suit was hopelessly wrinkled."Freya…" he murmured my name in his sleep, his voice trembling and broken. That was the name he had called me when he was fifteen.I studied his exhausted face, my heart a sile

"What do you mean, voluntarily?" Fenris's voice trembled. He couldn't begin to comprehend it.The witch paced slowly around the bed, each footstep like a death knell on his heart."Do you truly not remember?" she stopped, looking directly into his eyes. "That night, ten years ago?"The color drained from Fenris's face.Ten years ago…It was the darkest night of his life. The Black Moon pack had been slaughtered, and he was gravely wounded, lying in a pool of his own blood, waiting for death."Someone saved me…" he murmured. "It was Vanessa. She risked everything to save me…""Fool!" the witch sneered. "Did you ever once stop to think how a teenage girl, with no ties to your pack, could have single-handedly stormed an enemy camp to save you?"Fenris froze. He grasped at the fractured memories of that night.A flash of silver light... a gentle touch... and a voice whispering in his ear, "Live... please, live..."That voice…He desperately tried to piece together the events of that night,

"Tell me!" Fenris roared, his voice as raw as a beast's. "I need to know everything!"The witch slowly nodded, her dark eyes seeming to pierce his very soul."It is because of you. All of this is because of you.""The Silverthorn in her veins is a magical toxin of absolute coldness."Her voice was like an echo from the depths of hell, each word a spike of ice driving into Fenris's heart."It is the antithesis of your Alpha power, which burns with the fire of life itself."Fenris froze, his mind wiped clean."What do you mean?"The witch walked to the bed, looking at Freya's ashen face."Every time you get near her, every time you feel a strong emotion toward her, your power acts as a catalyst for the poison."She turned, pinning him with her ancient, cold gaze."Intensifying her agony a thousand times over.""You, Alpha, are the poison."Fenris's face went deathly pale. His knees buckled, and he nearly collapsed. No… that's not possible…The images flooded his mind. The pained look on
