Chapter 3

Jane's POV

I still found it hard to believe any of this. This strange man before me claimed to know me yet I was very certain that I had never seen him in my life.

"I am not Lucia! You're mistaking me for someone else!" I told him but he insisted otherwise.

I lost my calm as well as my fear and started throwing a tantrum. I told him I wouldn't let him keep me here. He aught to let me go if he knew what was best for him he still insisted I needed to rest from my journey and that he would see me later.

As he stepped out of the room, I hear him locking the door.

I didn't know what to do. I was so frustrated and couldn't believe any of it. I had thought my day was going bad enough when I was going to marry Fernando. But now I was kidnapped by someone who thinks I'm his girl?... wife?

After wasting all of my energy on hitting the door and yelling for my freedom, I got tired and returned to my bed, sitting with my head in my hands when suddenly the door creaks open.

I spring up only to see a lady walking in. Her stilettos made a loud noise on the floor and she switched on the light so that I could now see properly.

"I'm Emily." The fairly tall lady with a french bun announced in a sharp tone. "and I'm here if you need anything."

"I want to go home!" I said aloud.

She sighs and releases her hands to her sides. "I'll be bringing your meal shortly."

 "I'm not hungry."

"El jefe will be angry if you don't eat."

"I said I am not hungry!" My voice rises in frustration.

How on earth could I be comfortable eating? I was so scared to death.

"I'll be back with your meal and your dress."

"Dress?"

"Yes. El jefe wants you in his room once you're dressed."

"What?" I couldn't believe my ears. Why did he want me? At first I made it clear that I wasn't going unless he was going to come down here himself and drag me.

But I didn't really have the energy right now for all of that and maybe I should talk with him and explain to him that I'm not whom he thinks I am. Lucia or whoever.

In a few minutes, I was dressed up by Emily in a fitted red dress.

"And you mustn't address him as we do. Call him Quinn, that's his name."

Whatever! There was no way I could have addressed my abductor with so much respect in the first place.

As she leads me to meet her boss, I'm observing each corner of the building that we passed through. There were guards in suits standing around. When we passed the mezzanine, I glare down to see the big hall room.

I could swear that I had never been inside such a beautiful mansion. But the state of apprehension that I was in presently did not allow me to take my time to admire the gigantic glassy chandeliers and the luxurious furniture.

 "This way."

I hear her voice and turn back to my front where Emily was quickly leading me.

We stopped in front of a large door where two mighty looking guards were standing.

Again, my heart began to beat uncontrollably fast.

I made up my mind that I was going to talk to him reasonably and try to make him understand that he had the wrong girl.

I would make sure I act very calm and composed so he would listen to me and let me go.

The doors were pushed open by the guards and I got in quietly.

I hold my hands together in front and gaze into the room.

As I hear the sound of the door shutting loudly, I look back to realize that I was in darkness now that the doors were closed.

I face the space before me again with my heart shuddering. I catch the strong smell of alcohol mixed together with room fragrance and warmth.

I jolt when the light suddenly switches on and I see him standing before me with one of his feet on the bed and his hand holding a glass.

He looked younger than he had appeared earlier with his thick wavy brown hair swept back over his high arched eyebrows and blue hypnotic green eyes. I hadn't mistaken his great height. He was now in a baggy long sleeved shirt with one hand in the pocket of his joggers. His eyes appeared darker as he stared at me with head tilted back so that his gaze settled on me... Or a part of me.

His long fingers lower the glass of liquor by the rim to the small table before the bed. For now I was too worries about my situation to gush over his looks.

"Lucia." He whispers and I step a bit backwards.

"You look so beautiful... I longed to see you in this dress once again and finally... here."

"Look!" I stretch a hand forward to halt his movement towards me. "I think you're mistaking. I am not Lucia. I'm Jane!" I spread my hand on my chest. " I think you have mistaken me for... "

"Shhhhh." His index finger crossed his lips and his nose, his eyes refusing to move off me.

"Do you not understand? Your man drugged me and kidnapped me on my wedding. I need to go back."

"I'm sincerely sorry that you had to go through such disrespectful abuse but it was necessary. You're not going back to that man. You're here now and you're mine."

That man? Did he know Fernando?

"You can't keep me here! I must get married to him! Someone's fate depends on it!"

"Your mother's?"

My lips tighten around the other and I freeze in shock as he comes closer to me.

"How did you know?" I whispered.

"It doesn't matter. I'm going to send him the money you owe him. And I'll make him understand that you sent it to him. After that, he'll have no choice but to let your mother go."

"And then what? You've bought me?"

"Exactly." He answered coldly and I take a step back as he was getting even closer.

His suffocating fragrance fills the air and I struggle not to twitch my nose.

He raises his hand and stretches it near my face. I shriek silently as his fingers trail up my bare arm, his touch sending new shivers through me.

"Lucia..." He whispers again and his lips carve up near my nose.

Overcome with intense fright, I shift from him and yell.

    "I am not Lucia!"

As if agitated by my guts to pull out of his grip, he seizes my arm and draws me up against his hard body and I feel his other hand slowly wrap around my side and spread over my back.

"Be still, Lucia..." He whispers and my body tenses up with sick as I feel his hand slide up my back, then down my waist.

JANE My hands were constantly tapping at the table as I watched the clock. It was already a few minutes to midnight. Quinn should've been back by now. I paced back to my room and slithered up my bed, hugging my legs. When my eyes fell back to the reading table, they lingered for a while. I'd probably wake up to meet him sitting up there in the morning. Watching me.But he wasn't.The door pushed open and Emily hurried in, packing up my curtains for the late morning.Something didn't feel right. "Is Quinn back?" I asked."No ma'am," She said quickly and hurried into the bathroom to get my bath ready.I shake my head, getting up. "Why isn't he back?" "I don't know, ma'am. It's not in my place to know. He's usually away this much... Sometimes," she bends down to fix the bed sheets, her bob hair falling down her face."If something happened to Quinn, tell me!" She stood her face tightening suddenly."El jefe is a strong man. Nothing would happen to him," She said that she was ass

QUINNVenice pulls over beneath the sky’s blackened canopy, near the flickering streetlights. I drop my hoody and step out, my movements slow, until I slid into the seat beside her.“I bet I never asked you this before,” she said, eyes forward. “You sure about this?”“Yes.” I cock my pistol and her gaze linger on me with clear readable doubts. “You found this man for me. Shouldn’t I be the hesitant one?”She exhaled. “Yeah. He’s the one. That’s Igor. But I’ve never seen you hunt someone down for someone else. Rather people do it for you.”“He wronged me,” I said, pushing the gun back into my pocket and pulling my hood up. “I told you before.”“You’re doing it for that girl, aren’t you?”I bit down on my lip for a few seconds before reaching across her side of the door and pulling it open. “I owe you one, V.”She shrugs. “Nope. You only owe me my balance.” She stepped out of the car.I reached for my pocket and stretched out a card to her. She stands eyeing it for some seconds."Have M

JANE As the coffee steamed up in my face I rubbed my temple slowly. It was still very early with nothing but the warm lights slipping through the kitchen windows.I took a sharp sip of my coffee and pushed the cup between my hands laid flat on the table.Just then, another pair of hands slides forward at each side of my arms and I feel Quinn's warmth behind me."Sneaking up to drink?" He murmured."It's just coffee."He leaned back, heading for the fridge in matching cardigan and joggers. He returns with two bottles of water and sits opposite me."So, the meeting from last night... Have there been other news?""Well, neither of us have spoken yet but I'm pretty sure there'll be. Soon," a bottle squeezes in his grip. "You amazed me again - you did really great last night.""I'm good," I raise my cup to him. "at what I do.""Except you almost ruined it in the end.""Ruined it? I just had a drink and the next thing you bundled me out. What's the point of going to the club if I can't dr

QUINN"I'm gonna have to ground you now," I said, breaking out of her spell and drawing back."And how would you do that?" She staggers to her feet. "Lock me up in here and make sure I read twenty books in two days?""That'll be fair."She giggles and continues drawing close to me. "What if I make it up other ways?" Her hands slide slowly across my sides and her lips stand before mine. "Did you really think anything was gonna happen with me and that Mateo guy?"I pushed my mouth to her ear. "You wouldn't cause you know you have me to come home too and I'm just enough.""Oh, please!" She pushes me off and steps past me. Like a bodyguard, I'm turning around to watch her.She stood still before the closet, and stopped tugging at her sleeves."I wanna undress! Are you just gonna stand there and watch too?"I don't move an inch. She sighs in defeat and walks back to me. Standing with only a little space between us, she turns around and sweeps her curls to the front. "You might as well j

QUINN“You vouch for him?” Vetrova nods towards me.Lucia’s gaze didn’t waver. “Of course. I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t.”She lifted the third glass to her lips, sipping slowly while I watched her from the corner of my eye.“Manuel Rodrig’s house is a citadel for the Family,” she continued calmly. “And I have his support.”Her hand slid onto my thigh. “We have his support.”“Now imagine,” I folded my arms and leaned forward, resting them on the table, “approving this alliance and having me in this circle. It's just like having Rodrig, himself. Lucia's with us - Rodrig's with us.”“Liability, No?” Lucia asked lightly, reaching for the glass Mateo just re-filled at the center of the table for her. “Asset, Yes?”“I control the highest branches of underground channels in the country,” I added. “Imagine the progress - for all of us.”Vetrova stroked his beard slowly. “You do have a point, Quinn. Your power matters.”“All power does,” I replied evenly, leaning back as Lucia pulls the glas

QUINNI stepped out of the Jeep and held the door, Lucia’s voice pulling me back just before I shut it.“You sure I shouldn’t come yet?”“No.” I slid my black shades over my eyes. “If things go well, you might not need to come at all.”“You need me there,” she murmured, but not moving an inch.“Let’s hope I don’t.”I shut the door and headed into the clubhouse with only Mario behind me.If I had my way, I wouldn’t bring her to places like this. I didn't have these worries till now. These men weren’t enemies, of course. But that’s what I’d thought last time. She’d been quiet lately. Avoiding my eyes. Speaking only when I asked. That night I wrapped her in my arms after forcing her to talk about her father. I thought she’d finally found comfort in my arms. But then she pushed me away, as if angry, unsettled - like she hated how easily I’d cracked her open. Refusing to succumb to affection I didn't have but was willing to give. As if the affection frightened her more than my violence.Tw
