The word remained on every screen.

CUSTODIAN ACCEPTED.

Elena couldn't breathe.

Her mother stood beside Victor on the screens.

Alive.

Calm.

And smiling.

Not the frightened woman from the recordings.

Not the mother who had supposedly spent years running from the Covenant.

This Claire looked like someone who had finally stopped running.

Adrian stepped in front of Elena.

"Shut it down."

Samuel shook his head.

"It's too late."

"Then tell me how to reverse it."

"I don't know."

The darkness swallowed Elena after three steps. On the fourth, the door behind her disappeared. She stopped. The little girl squeezed her hand.“It's closing.”Elena turned. There was nothing behind them.No chamber. No staircase. No way back.Only endless blackness. She looked at the child.“What's your name?”The girl hesitated.“I don't have one.”“You must have had one.”“They called me Zero.”Elena shook her head.“I won't call you that.”“Why?”“Because you're not a number.”The girl looked up at her.“Then what will you call me?”Elena thought for a moment.“Lena.”The child's eyes widened.“That's part of your name.”“I know.”A tiny smile appeared.“I like it.”Then the darkness whispered.“Sentimental.”Elena froze. The voice was everywhere.“You always were.”She tightened her grip on Lena's hand.“Show yourself.”A low laugh answered.“You wouldn't recognize me.”“Try me.”“You already have.”The corridor illuminated.Elena's breath caught.Every wall was covered with mirr

  • His Dark Covenant   Episode 30: The Grandfather Beneath

The floor split open.Elena barely had time to grab the child before the entire chamber lurched sideways.BOOM.A shockwave tore through the room.Machines toppled.Glass shattered.Emergency lights burst overhead.Adrian caught Elena around the waist as the floor tilted beneath them.“Hold on!”The little girl clung to Elena's neck.Below them, something enormous moved in the darkness. Not machinery.Something alive.Elena stared into the opening. Two pale lights appeared far below.Eyes.Her blood turned cold. The old voice returned through the speakers.“Come closer, Elena.”She tightened her grip on the child.“No.”The lights disappeared. Then the voice laughed.“You sound exactly like your mother.”Claire froze.“You remember her?”“I remember everything.”Matthew stepped toward the opening.“Father!”Silence.Then:“Matthew.”Matthew's face twisted.“You're alive.”“Obviously.”“You've been down here all this time?”“Waiting.”“For what?”The answer came immediately.“For my bl

The child smiled.Elena couldn't breathe. She was six years old.Small.Barefoot.Suspended inside the black glass sphere as if she were sleeping beneath deep water. But the face—That face belonged to Elena. Not exactly. The eyes were hers. The shape of the mouth was hers.Even the tiny scar above the left eyebrow was there. The scar Elena had received when she was nine. She touched her own eyebrow instinctively.“How?”Nobody answered.Mara backed away from the sphere.“That isn't me.”Matthew stared at the child.“No.”His voice trembled.“It isn't.”The child opened her mouth.“Elena.”The voice was unmistakable. It was Elena's voice. But younger.Clearer.Almost innocent.Elena stepped forward despite Adrian's attempt to stop her.“Who are you?”The child tilted her head.“I've been waiting.”“For me?”“Yes.”The glass began to crack.Adrian pulled Elena backward.“Everyone move.”CRACK.A second fracture appeared. Then another.Matthew shouted:“Get away from it!”Elena didn't m

“Hello, daughter.”Elena stopped breathing. The voice came through the speakers again, calm and impossibly familiar. Not because she had heard it recently.Because some buried part of her remembered it.A lullaby.A hand against her forehead.A man's voice whispering that everything would be all right. She had been too young to remember his face. But she remembered the voice.“Who are you?” she whispered.Static answered. Then the voice returned.“You already know.”The screen displayed the photograph again.Claire holding newborn Elena. The unidentified man beside her.The face scratched away.Elena stared at the photograph.“Dad?”Matthew didn't answer. Her eyes moved toward him.“Is it him?”Matthew's silence was devastating.“Dad.”He finally looked up.“No.”Elena's chest tightened.“Then who?”Matthew swallowed.“I don't know.”A soft laugh came through the speakers.“You've always been a terrible liar, Matthew.”Matthew went rigid.Claire covered her mouth.Elena turned toward

  • His Dark Covenant   Episode 27: The Architect

The first thing Elena heard was her own heartbeat. The second was Adrian shouting her name.“Elena!”She opened her eyes. The chamber was dark.Emergency lights pulsed along the walls, turning everything red for half a second before plunging it into shadow again.Mara was beside her.Claire was on the floor.Matthew stood motionless in front of the sealed door. And Victor's final words remained trapped inside Elena's mind. The Architect is Elena. She pushed herself upright.“What does that mean?”Matthew didn't answer.“Dad.”Nothing.“Dad!”He finally turned. His face told her everything. He was afraid. Not for himself. For her.“Elena…”She stood.“Don't.”Matthew stopped.“No more secrets.”“I know.”“You knew what I was.”“No.”“You knew there was something different about me.”“I knew there was something dangerous surrounding you.”“That isn't the same thing.”Matthew looked at her.“No.”His voice broke.“It isn't.”The Door That Wouldn't OpenAdrian examined the sealed door.“I

  • His Dark Covenant   Episode 26: The Child in the Dark

The laughter came again. Soft. Childlike. Wrong. Elena's entire body went rigid. Adrian immediately raised his weapon. “Stay behind me.” Elena barely heard him. The laughter wasn't coming from the corridor. It was coming from inside the walls. Matthew stared into the darkness. “No…” Claire grabbed his arm. “What is it?” Matthew didn't answer. His face had lost all color. Then the emergency lights returned. A single red bulb flickered above them. The projector was still running. But the image had changed. There was no longer a photograph. There was a video. A little girl sat alone in a white room. She couldn't have been more than six years old. Elena stared. The girl looked familiar. Too familiar. Mara stepped closer. “That's me.” Elena looked at her. Mara shook her head. “No. I remember that room.” On the screen, the little girl slowly turned toward the camera. Her lips moved. The recording played her voice. “Where i
