Chapter 2: A pawn

last update Last Updated: 2025-03-24 00:41:02

My eyes cut to my Father, despite the chaos brewing inside me I remain calm and poised. I tap my class with crossed fingers to let him know today's mission was a success.

“Sasha?” My mother snorts, “You don't want her. I know they're identical but Sasha is where you draw the line, she isn't fit to be Capo's wife, she-”

“Everything will proceed as planned, she looks like the initial bride so nobody will suspect any foul play. You get to keep your facade of a virtuous family and I get my bride.”

“Take Luna.” My Father offers, and when I turn to find her, she's gone wide-eyed with fear.

“I want your other daughter, and in five days you will hand her to me and pray my anger simmers down enough to not break your bones.”

“You can't have Sasha, I'm sorry.”

“You don't tell me what I can't have Don Romano, much less after you screwed me over. I'll hang your daughter's head on my door as payment for disloyalty on your end.”

And with that, he exits, with his family following behind him. “Five days,” Alessio tells Father, but his eyes are on me.

“Mom!” Sofia screeches. “Do something.” she turns to me, a silent plea in her eyes.

I look away, if I don't I will give in for her sake and I sure as hell don't want to spend my life gifted to Capo dei Capi as reimbursement. I'm fine in my current hell.

“I'm taken.” I muse, shocking everyone but Father. He knows I'm bluffing, but in a way it's true. I'm death's favorite mistress and he doesn't share.

Enzo Valenti is said to be worse than the devil himself which means I should panic but I can't.

My calm is supported by the fact that I know Father won't give me up, I'm an asset to him. He won't give up his greatest creation to save his precious little—

Shit.

I'm fucked.

“I will reason with him, he's angry now. He will calm down, he will take Luna or Sofia again, he can't have Alessandra. She belongs here, with her Father.”

His words reassure me a little, and I blow him a kiss. “Always, Father.”

****TWO DAYS LATER****

ENZO

Playing nice with Dante Romano has his perception of who I am mixed up. Despite my clear insistence of not wanting any of the girls in his home who are not Alessandra, he still believes he can change my mind.

I want her, if he hadn't tried so hard to talk me out of marrying her then maybe I would have spared the girl, but no, I must marry her. My choice isn't merely for my benefit but to punish Dante Romano for letting his daughter play fast and loose knowing damn well she was betrothed to me.

When he came begging for the second time today, I wanted to put a bullet between his eyes and end things but Alessio talked me out of it. Nobody but his family would bat an eyelash if I killed Don Romano, the events surrounding his death would be justifiable. If anything, killing him for such a betrayal is expected of me as the next capo.

“Enzo, we have a guest.” Alessio groans. “Put on a better show, will you?”

My head whips over my shoulder and I smile at the way Don Romano sweats in his seat. Alessio had the brilliant idea of letting Don Romano see what would happen to him if he went against me. We've been in my dungeon for thirty minutes now, and my hands are covered in blood.

“Enzo please,” David squirms in his seat. I love how powerless they get when I'm in the room, and how small they become when they realize they have nowhere to run to.

“You know, if I were you,” Alessio drawls, his voice laced with Mockery. “I’d be scared, Don Romano.”

I move onto my table of torture items and Alessio hums in approval when I grab a limited edition blade crafted specially for this kind of occasion. “Use that one, it'll make him learn his lesson.”

My gaze cuts to Don Romano and I smirk. “Maybe I should try this on the Don.” I trail off, my gaze finding his. He's shaking, just the way I want him to., “Tell me Don Romano, aren't curious to feel my wrath.”

Don Romano swallows, his leg jittering. Alessio laughs, patting him on the shoulder. “Don’t look so serious, Don. It's a joke, isn't it Enzo?”

“A joke?” I frown, flickering the knife between my fingers. “There is nothing funny about screwing me over.”

“Enzo, please. There's no need to resort to violence.”

No need? No, there's plenty of need here. I wasn't remotely attached to Don Romano's daughter, for a good three or so years I couldn't even remember her name but now that opportunity has presented itself, I'm more than eager to take the daughter that haunts my dreams.

“There is always a need for violence, if not? Then I create it.” Alessio grins.

Don Romano falls to his knees, hands rubbing together as he looks up at me. “Please, Enzo the wedding is in two days, let's organize something.”

“You know, when I speak, things get done and yet you are still challenging me?”

“No,” he vigorously shakes his head. “I'm simply asking you to reconsider, please choose between Luna and Reina.”

He's asking me to choose between his other daughter and niece raises alarm. Why does he not want me to marry Sasha? If he didn't want me marrying he he should have hidden her better.

“Don Romano, when Enzo doesn't get what he wants he resorts to uneventful means.” Alessio sighs, “Look at that man do you know what his sin is? Don't wreck your brain, I will tell you for free. David there didn't deliver on time and when did deliver, something was amiss that made Enzo very angry.”

“Enough, chit-chat.” I groan. “As you can see, David and I are preoccupied. You'll go home, prepare your darling daughter for the wedding and if you value your life then you'll ensure the right twin walks down the aisle.”

“Enzo, please. My Alessandra has done no wrong, I can't force-”

“You're right. Get up.”

At my command he rises, taking a bow. “Thank you, Enzo. Who shall I prepare.”

“Alessandra,” I tell him, watching all colour drain from his face. “You were right when you said she did nothing wrong but you did,” I smirk. “So if you any deliver me the docile virgin wife you promised? I'll have to kill you. As a matter of fact, choose your death weapon now.”

“N-no, no.” he stutters. “she will marry you.”

“Excellent,” I smile. The bastard could never put anyone's life above his. “I would have hated to soil my clothes when I tear you inside out.”

“Leave while you can still walk out of here, Don Romano.” Alessio hisses, “And don't think of fooling us with the other one.” he warns.

I don't think Don Romano is bold enough to swap Sofia for Alessandra.

No, he wouldn't dare and even if he did? I would catch on to his lies, the two act ever so differently. Sofia likes to be the centre of attention while my chosen darling bride wouldn't be caught dead in the public eye.

“Dolccezza, are you still mad at me?” I hear him say. I swallow. He just got into bed, and I've got my back to him. I would pretend I was asleep, but I can't ignore him. I feel an inescapable pull between us, something feral and dangerous–two of my favourite things. “I'm not mad,” I shift, turning to face him. Even he is lying in bed, staring at me with bewilderment. “I am a little upset you made me leave the dinner like that, it wasn't necessary.” “How is your cheek?” he asks, ignoring my statement, to him, dragging me out was necessary, and so was warning me that my family would never see me again if they lose dangers to me. “I'm fine, Enzo,” I try to assure him, the Russian rolling off my tongue “I mean I'm fine, it was an accident, and you overreacted.” I clarify, careful not to do dry to other languages. “I'll respect the story you're going for, but Dolcezza, nobody is allowed to hurt you.” “He didn't—” “If anyone ever hurts you, then I want you to come to me. “Sasha,” he snaps, startling me. I tense beside Gianna, who huffs in irritation. “What is it now?” she whispers to Alessio. “He's upset,” he blankly retorts, telling us the obvious. Everyone stares at Sasha, who remains frozen, her hand shaking when she sees Enzo moving towards her. Sasha needs to learn that he calls the shots, she says jump, and you ask how high immediately. “Enzo, amore, what is it?” Mrs Valenti asks, her voice trembling. Even she is afraid of her son, so who am I not to have feared him so much I ran into another man's arms for comfort. Enzo's hand reaches for Sasha's face, and she backs away, not too quickly, but Enzo counters by grabbing her, holding her in place with one hand while the other moves strands of her hair, exposing her bruised cheek. “What's this, Alessandra?” he asks, his voice harsh and cold. He startles me again. Alessandra moves his hand, “I bumped into the wall.” Really? That's the lie she's going for? Her cheek is fucking red, she

Alessandra goes with her mother. She has Reina give her a glass of champagne, and they talk to Mrs Valenti, both showering her with attention. It's weird, and not from a jealous point of view.Father, Dante, Don Valenti and Enzo are discussing something, yet I can't help but notice how Enzo watches my sister and father watches him do it. Alessandra is gawking at him too, blushing obliviously while pretending to listen to Mother and Mrs Valenti.“Sofia,” Gianna calls out. “You got it right.” I smile back at her, she had previously called me Alessandra when she arrived, but Dante had to correct her painfully.“Of course,” she sighs. “it's much easier now, Sasha is the one with the ring handpicked by Enzo.”“Hand-picked?” I gasp, that man has no time for activities that don't involve la Familia, she must be trying to get on my nerves.“Yes, crazy I know.” she maintains her expression. “So, how are you?”“I'm good.”“I love the outfit but...” she trails off, her gaze sweeping over me. “i

I watch as recognition cracks through his expression, he's got it, he knows who I am now. “No. You’re not—” “Requiem?” I grin. A man whispered among the elites, the demon that feasts fast and brutally. It's me, and when my smile confirms it, he presses the emergency button that should alert his security, but I have bugged the system, so nobody is coming for him. He stands abruptly, knocking over his chair. “They’re coming,” he warns me, but I don't stop. “My men will be here any second and..” “They won’t.” I cut him off with a single step forward. “No one will be coming for you Mr D'Angelo and don't bother offering me money, cars, you don't have enough to appease me.” I pout, feeding on his fear. He tries to back away as I swear you could see the moment he begins to plan escaping me. I'm hurt, I've waited so long to play and he wants to run from me? I'm risking my life to end his and he has the nerve to try and fight back? He signed his death certificate the moment he started pl

Instantly, I believe him because even though it's merely been weeks, I can't imagine life differently—I can but I loathe every second of it. I'm glad Sofia fell for the enemy, even more glad when he kisses me. His hand against my cheek is gentle, the need with which we kiss each other like long-lost lovers sends electric sensations all over my body. I get it now, kissing Enzo is an art I never want to lose touch in, I can't seem to get enough of him, his tongue. My husband tastes like every dark thought I've ever had and he's slowly yet surely unsure I'm addicted to every part of him. “Oh, Sasha.” he groans, his hand finding its way underneath my dress, moving it up in the process. I feel weak in the knees, but thankfully Enzo has a strong hold on me. With one hand he lifts me off the floor and moves us to our bed. I miss his touch the second he gently lays me on the mattress, hastily taking his jacket off.

Alessandra I'm sitting in the living room, bored out of my damn mind because Enzo left me alone all day. I understand he has work to do but leaving me alone after we've spent such a beautiful week together makes me sort of miss him. When my phone rings, I practically leap to the table to grab it but my excitement dies down the moment I see the caller ID, 'Don Romano.' yes, I can't bother to input him as a father his title is more than enough, because to me he hasn't been a father for over ten years, but somehow he was more of a parent than mother ever was. I hesitate before I answer, trying to avert camera angles that could catch my lips moving. “Hello,” I nearly sigh. “Sasha my dear,” Father says, sounding rather excited. “How are you?” “I'm fine thanks.” I blankly retort. I'd avoided his calls for a while but now I'm inclined to answer, my honeymoon is over and he probably wants more info out of me. “So, any news from your husband?” And there it is, I knew this wasn't

“Let us just leave now.” he groans, holding me so close that I can feel how hard he is. “You're ruining your reputation.” I hear Alessio say, just like Enzo he doesn't make a sound when he draws near. “Big bad Enzo can't be this clingy.” Enzo kisses my forehead and I take it as my cue to leave, waving at Alessio who takes my place, trying to hug Enzo. I go to where his mother stands, to offer my help with slicing the fruit but when I look back at Enzo and Alessio, I see my husband swing his fist at Alessio. “Don't worry, Sasha.” his older sister, Isabella laughs. “That's just how those two interact.” Taking a seat, I frown. Who the hell interacts like this, then again I remember Alessio did mention Enzi beating him up. Hmm.I don't know if this family is trul strange, or perhaps my perception of what family is has been altered by my own fucked up family. “What you're seeing is very mild compared to how they usually are. They will beat each other til the other bleeds out or pa

  • His Docile Mafia Princess    Chapter 26: Strange people

“Wait!” Andrea calls out, and immediately they all go silent. “Alessandra is here.” “Hi!” Gianna squeals, breaking from the crowd. Now all four are gaping at me so I wave with a smile, “Hello everyone.” “I thought you weren't coming, Enzo said he wouldn't bring you.” Andrea frowns, her gaze narrowing. Gianna sits next to me, and her cousin Marlene sits next to me as well and introduces herself and her other sister. Soon, all four bombard me with inquiries about my honeymoon, how I'm finding living with the scary Enzo Valenti, and whether I'm bored or still startled. I can only answer one of the four they simultaneously shoot at me, but it doesn't stop them from inquiring further and further. They're not how I pictured them; everyone is hospitable and nice. “Girls, give her some breathing room.” Mrs Valenti tsks, shooing the girls away. “You're going to scare her away.” I let out a nervous laugh, “I'm fine, Mrs Valenti.” “If you continue to call me that, I'll call you the

Lina giggles, “You're making my brother mad.” Now my smile falls, veering back to Lina. “Your brother?” I frown, my gaze shifting between the two of them. Enzo has an eyebrow raised, undoubtedly wondering who I thought she was when I saw her. “Sometimes,” Lina shrugs. But that's impossible, this is a little girl, and I know all of his sisters, I thought I did. Nothing I dug for told me about her, and his parents are too old, maybe she's adopted. “What is your name?” she nods at me. My lips part but before I can say a word, Enzo beats me to it. “Brother Enzo's wife.” “That's a weird name,” her lips curl up in disgust. He is messing with her and the poor girl believes it. “Hmm, do you have another name? Can I give you another name?” “I do have another name, and I'll tell you if you forgive us for not inviting you to our wedding.” She pause
