ELARA POV

The following day felt like walking through a minefield. Every creak of the floorboard, every ring of the phone, every shadow passing the window made my heart leap into my throat. Lucas had been restless all morning, pacing back and forth, checking his watch, muttering under his breath about what his uncle could possibly want to discuss.

At noon, we arrived at Dante’s estate. It stood at the top of a winding hill—grand, imposing, surrounded by ancient trees that seemed to guard its secrets. As we stepped inside the study, the air felt thick and heavy, smelling of old books, leather, and that familiar scent that still haunted my dreams: sandalwood and something dark and warm.

Dante stood by the large window, his back to us. He turned slowly at the sound of the door closing, and his eyes locked immediately onto mine—intense, burning, speaking volumes that Lucas could not begin to understand.

“Thank you for coming,” Dante said, his voice calm but carrying a weight that filled the entire room. He gestured toward the leather chairs. “Sit.”

Lucas took a seat, leaning forward with barely contained impatience. “What is this about, Uncle? You said it concerned family. You have been acting strangely lately, and frankly, I do not like it.”

Dante remained standing, his hands clasped behind his back. He looked at his nephew, then back at me, and for a moment I thought my knees would give way. He was going to say it. Right here. Right now.

“I have called you here,” Dante began slowly, “because there is something that should have been said a long time ago. Something that changes everything.”

Lucas scoffed. “Then say it. Stop playing games.”

Dante took a step forward, his gaze hardening. “You do not know how to cherish what you have, Lucas. You do not know how to protect, how to honor, how to love. You have treated your wife with coldness, with cruelty, with neglect—and I have watched it in silence for far too long.”

Lucas went pale. He stood up abruptly, his face twisting with anger. “How dare you speak of my marriage? How dare you—”

“Because she deserves better!” Dante’s voice cracked like thunder, cutting him off. “She deserves to be loved as precious, guarded like treasure, adored as the very air one breathes. And since you refuse to give her that… then I will.”

Silence descended upon the room—deadly, suffocating, absolute. Lucas stared at his uncle, his mouth opening and closing as the meaning of those words crashed into him. He looked at Dante, then at me, his eyes widening in horror and disbelief.

“No…” Lucas whispered, stepping back as if struck. “No. This… this cannot be. You are my uncle. She is my wife.”

“I am aware of exactly who she is,” Dante said, his voice dropping low and dangerous as he moved to stand beside me. He did not touch me—not yet—but his presence shielded me, strong and unyielding. “And soon, the whole world will know exactly who she is to me as well.”

Lucas laughed then—a harsh, broken sound. “You have lost your mind. Do you know what this will do to our family name? To our business? Everything we have built—”

“I will rebuild it,” Dante cut in firmly. “I will build it again a hundred times over, if that is what it takes. But I will not give her up. Not for your pride. Not for your name. Not for anything.”

Lucas turned to me then, his face twisted with rage and betrayal. “And you? You stand there and let him speak this way? What have you done, Elara? What have you been doing behind my back?”

I lifted my chin, my hands trembling but my voice steady. “He sees me, Lucas. He sees the woman you stopped looking at long ago. He values me. He respects me. And you… you never did.”

Those words seemed to break something inside him. His face darkened, turning a dangerous shade of red. He lunged forward, his hand raised as if to strike me—but before he could come close, Dante stepped between us. He caught Lucas’s wrist in a grip so tight I could hear the bones grind together.

“Do not,” Dante warned, his voice quiet but terrifyingly calm. “Do not ever raise your hand to her. Do not speak to her with hatred. You forfeited every right to her when you chose to make her life miserable. And now… she is mine.”

He released Lucas’s wrist with a sharp, dismissive motion. Lucas stumbled back, clutching his arm, staring at his uncle with a mixture of fear and fury he could no longer hide.

“Get out,” Dante said, pointing to the door. “Go. And do not come back until you are ready to speak like a civilized man. Elara stays here.”

Lucas’s eyes darted between us—wild, desperate, searching for some sign that this was all a terrible joke. But he found none. He saw the way Dante stood before me like a shield. He saw the way I looked at Dante—with hope, with longing, with everything I had never felt for him.

“You will regret this,” Lucas spat, his voice shaking. “Both of you. This will destroy everything. Mark my words.”

He turned on his heel and stormed out, slamming the door so hard the walls trembled.

And then we were alone.

The silence returned, but this time it was different—no longer heavy with fear, but trembling with release. Dante turned to me instantly, his fierce expression softening the moment his eyes met mine. He reached out and pulled me gently into his arms, holding me tightly as if he feared I might dissolve into thin air.

“I am sorry,” he whispered into my hair, his voice rough with emotion. “I did not mean to be so harsh. But I could not stand there another moment and watch him threaten you. I could not pretend anymore.”

I wrapped my arms around his waist and buried my face against his chest, listening to the strong, steady beat of his heart. “You did not have to hide forever, Dante. Not from me.”

He pulled back slightly to look at me, brushing a strand of hair from my face with infinite tenderness. “From this moment on, there are no more secrets. No more hiding. No more fear. Whatever comes—and believe me, Elara… there will be storms—I will face them all with you. Together.”

He lowered his head and kissed me then—slowly, deeply, with a solemn promise sealed in every touch. It was the first time we had kissed in the light of day, with the truth laid bare and the world waiting to judge us. And as his arms held me safe, I realized that I was no longer afraid.

Because whatever storm was coming… I would not face it alone.

  • His Forbidden Desire   chapter 5

Elara povThe days that followed were unlike anything I had ever known. Lucas had stormed out of Dante’s estate, leaving me behind with a threat hanging in the air—but he did not return. He did not call. He did not send a single word. At first, the silence terrified me. I waited for the explosion, for the scandal to break, for the world to come crashing down around us. But Dante stood firm, a towering wall of strength and calm.“Let him rage,” Dante told me one evening, pulling me close beside him before the crackling fireplace. “Let him shout to whoever will listen. But he will not hurt you. He will not take you back. I have made certain of that.”He had moved me into his home openly. There were no shadows now, no hurried whispers, no fear of being caught. Dante gave me the largest guest suite—no, he corrected gently, our room—and filled it with everything I could ever need or want. More than that, he gave me his time, his attention, his heart. He woke me with soft kisses, asked my o

Elara povThe room spun around me, every breath tangled in the heat of his touch. Dante held me as if I were something infinitely precious, his hands roaming over me with a reverence that made tears prick my eyes—no one had ever looked at me this way, no one had ever touched me like I mattered.“Dante…” I breathed his name like a secret, my fingers digging gently into his shoulders. “This… this can never be. He is your nephew. We are breaking every rule there is.”He paused, his forehead resting against mine, his dark eyes searching mine with a fierce, unyielding gaze. “Rules were written by men who never knew what it means to burn for someone the way I burn for you. Let them judge. Let them speak. I do not care. All I care about is you—this heart that has been ignored, this soul that has been neglected. You were meant to be cherished, Elara. Not wasted on a man who does not know your worth.”His words wrapped around me stronger than any chain. I wanted to believe him. I wanted to thr

ELARA POVMy legs were still trembling when Dante finally set me down, yet his arms did not loosen their hold. He kept me pressed close to his chest, his forehead resting against mine, his breath warm and uneven against my skin. I could feel the thunder of his heart beneath my palm—wild, unsteady, matching the frantic rhythm of my own.“You have no idea,” he murmured, his voice thick with desire and something deeper, far more dangerous, “how long I have waited to do that.”My fingers curled into the lapels of his suit jacket. “Dante… this is madness. You are Lucas’s uncle. If anyone found out—”“Let them find out,” he cut in sharply, his hands lifting to cup my face, his gaze locking onto mine with fierce intensity. “Let the whole world know. I have watched him neglect you, ignore you, treat you as if you were nothing—and I have held my tongue long enough. He does not deserve you, Elara. He never did.”Before I could reply, the terrace doors swung open behind us. Laughter and voices s

Elara pov“You’re late.”I said it softly, my voice trembling despite my best efforts to keep it steady. The grand chandelier cast a thousand golden lights across the marble floor, yet none of its warmth ever seemed to reach me. I stood by the tall window, my fingers curling tightly around the silk curtain, watching the evening sky turn dark and heavy—much like the weight that had settled in my chest months ago.It was our second wedding anniversary tonight. But there were no flowers. No soft words. No warmth in the man who had promised to love me for the rest of his life. The heavy oak doors swung open, and in walked Lucas. He didn’t even glance my way as he tossed his keys onto the console table, his movements sharp, cold, and indifferent. He loosened his tie with one hand, his expression bored and distant, as if I were nothing more than a piece of furniture taking up space in his home.Lucas paused, finally turning his head to look at me—but his eyes held no affection.
