Chapter 19

Connor started working after hanging up the phone. After he finished his work, he went near the window to smoke.

He looked out from the balcony and saw the light reflected on the lawn outside Annette's room downstairs.

He tilted his head and glanced at the clock on the wall. It was already late. He thought, 'Is she still up? Or is Marcus still in her room?'

He put out the cigarette, went downstairs, and came to the door of Annette's room.

He knocked on the door, but no one answered.

He put his hand on the doorknob and gently pushed the door. The door was unlocked.

He looked into the room. There was no sign of Marcus.

Annette was lying on the bed. She had earphones on, one hand on the book on the bed, the other hand holding a pen, nibbling on it, and writing something down on the book from time to time.

He entered the room, but she didn't notice him at all.

Annette felt a bit worn out. When she was stretching, she suddenly saw a person standing by the bed.
